Prompt: Instead of having dorms separating the houses, Hogwarts changed it to where you get a small dorm with one person from each house. Good luck!

(This will not be based within the times of Harry Potter or the Marauders, however, I will use characters such as Snape and Dumbledore if the opportunity arises)

Gryffindor: Kai
Ravenclaw: Mari
Slytherin: Pele
Hufflepuff: Milo

The only real reason this is Hogwarts is because the house placement is important for each character. And they're a little older than 11. Cause that'd be weird.

Kai's pov
Sighing as I walk into the dorm, I throw my bag onto the bed closest to the door.

I don't like the new way they do things. My parents told me grand stories of them living with a group of people, all with similar traits and aspirations.

There are still commons for each house, thank heavens.

I begin to unpack as a girl carrying green robes walks in behind me. She takes the bed on the opposite side, leaving the middle two open.

She has a scowl on her face and I don't care to start a conversation.

It doesn't take me long to get everything put away in the small dresser next to my bed and I turn to the girl.

She's mostly finished and staring at a picture. I can barely make out the silhouette of a boy.

"Is that your boyfriend?" I ask. The girl looks up.

"No, this is my twin brother, Kanaloa. He's a Muggle," She explains, a sad smile on her face.

"How is that?" She's peaked my interest.

"Our mother is a Muggle and our father is a wizard. I guess I took after him," She shrugs and sets the photo in top of her dresser.

After that, a girl already wearing her blue robes comes in with a large bag.

She sets it down lightly on the bed next to the Slytherin girl.

As she begins to unpack she speaks, "What are your names and where are you from?"

"I'm Pele. And if the name wasn't self explanatory, I'm from Hawaii," The Slytherin, Pele, replies and watches the other girl.

"I'm Kai, from New Zealand," I smile brightly at the new comer.

"Well, I'm Mari. I'm from Scotland, which makes this school situation quite easy," The girl introduces herself.

Eventually, our Hufflepuff shows up.

He's a short, tan boy with dark curls.

"Hi! I'm Milo," He smiles and sits down on the last bed, right next to mine.

We introduce ourselves once more before settling in.

Considering we got here late and still had to wear the Hat, we're all tired.

Milo holds up a small light. "Is it okay if I plug this in?"

"Go ahead." "Yeah." "I do not care." Three responses ring out.

He plugs it in between his and my bed and I turn off the light.

The nightlight Milo plugged in shines gentle stars on the ceiling.

Pele flops onto her stomach and groans loudly, "These beds kinda suck."

"Yeah they do. And it's cold," Milo whines the second part and snatches a second blanket from his bag.

Buuut instead of sleeping, we just stay up and talk.

I eventually move to Milo's bed and Pele moves to Mari's, so we're closer.

"Dude, you guys have no idea what it's like to have a twin. It's like a built in best friend and a built in enemy," Pele laughs after she finished saying this.

"And none of you have any idea of what it's like to be the only woman in the house, with a single father and two brothers," Mari's eyes twinkle.

"Oh really? Try having to be the oldest child and having the job of watching 4 small children at once," Milo rolls his eyes with a brilliant smile on his face.

"Pssh. That's nothing. Try being the only kid in the ENTIRE family and every family reunion being absolute hell," I speak up.

Milo looks shaken after I say that, "I would die if I didn't have my siblings to lighten the load of pesky aunts and uncles."

The girls nod sullenly.

After a second of silence, we bust into laughter.

"Even though that's pretty bad, lemme tell you guys something. My family runs a circus. And I have to watch the kids! My two little sisters are identical twins and contortionists, my one little brother is a juggler, and the other is a knife thrower! I don't know how I'm alive!" Milo talks and by the end of it he's close to shouting.

At once, all three of us hug him. "That sounds like actual Hell," Pele mumbles.

"Wait. What do you do then?" Mari asks.

His eyes shine and he smiles, "I work with the big cats! We have two lions and a tiger. I practically raised the tiger."

"Milo, you are the bravest man I know," I tell him.

"How in the fuck are you Hufflepuff?" Pele asks, leaning forward.

"I don't know! And that's a bad word, you shouldn't use it," Milo says and smiles.

I catch eyes with the two girls and we nod. This boy is best boy.

"Maybe we should get to bed now. It's quite late and we probably have much to do tomorrow," Mari suggests.

Pele and I agree, and Milo pouts but nods.

I go back to my respective bed and curl myself into the blanket.

After a short while, I hear gentle snoring.

I look up and see Milo silently laughing.

I sit up to look over him and see that instead of going to her own bed, Pele stayed with Mari, and she's the one snoring.

Mari is smiling and stroking her hair.

Satisfied with the calm settling over the room, I lay back down and close my eyes.

Pele's Pov
"GUYS, WAKE UP!" Someone screams. I bolt up and get hit in the face with my robe and some clothes.

Mari is changing quickly, and still screaming.

The boys get up and hurriedly change alongside me.

We hurry out if the room and to the dining hall.

We're some of the last ones in, but we still made it.

After finding our separate sections to sit at and a long and BORING speech from the professors, we're dismissed to find our classes and continue to settle in.

Instead of doing that though, I go back to the room.

Seems like Kai had the same idea.

"I'm so tired. I'm used to a bigger bed and no noise, so I couldn't sleep well," He groans.

"I slept fine, I just don't give a shit," I reply and sit next to him.

Mari and Milo walk in. "We're going to check out classes, are you guys gonna come?" Mari asks.

"Nope," I say and Kai shakes his head.

Milo shrugs before grabbing Mari's hand and running off somewhere.

Kai and I talk about random stuff for a while. My brother, his best friends, our hometowns, etc.

"So, what do you do? Like, hobbies?" He asks.

"This is gonna sound really cliche since I live on an island, but I surf. And I paint sometimes, but I'm not very good," I answer and shrug a little.

I look at him expectantly.

He blushes a little, "I dance."

"What kind of dancing? You gotta give me specifics," I push a little.

"Anything really. I prefer swing dancing to anything else," He answers and his blush recedes a little.

"That's pretty cool," I smile at him. It's kind of refreshing to meet some guys who aren't obsessed with stupid stuff.

He rests his head on my stomach and closes his eyes.

I shut mine too. Might as well rest until Mari and Milo are back.

After a short while, Kai's breath softens.

I hear gentle footsteps enter the room and a blanket is laid over the two of us.

Mari and Milo whisper quietly to each other for a while, before they go quiet. Then I fall asleep.

Mari's Pov
After a bit of talking with Milo, I take out a notepad and he grabs a book.

The other two sleep on Kai's bed. I'm really happy things are going well.

I was scared the clashing personalities would result in these years being hell.

But Milo is very sweet and seems destined to become everyone's favorite.

And Kai is a little more extroverted than most people I like, but he's a people person, and I can appreciate that.

Pele is a different story. She's a tough, badass bitch. But she was very defensive over her family and warmed up to us quickly.

I flip my pad to a fresh page and start writing stuff about them.

I do this a lot. I just write.
About people, fictional scenarios, etc.

After a while, a hand taps my knee and I see Milo standing in front of me.

He looks.... embarrassed?

"Can we, uh, do what they're doing?" He asks, pointing back at Pele and Kai.

I laugh and nod, moving over.

He sits next to me and I rest my head on his shoulder, taking a peek at his book.

It's Alice in Wonderland. Well, I guess that's understandable. It's Milo.

I eventually set down my notepad and close my eyes. Sleep couldn't hurt.

Milo's Pov
After a few minutes, Mari is asleep as well. Finally.

I slip from under her gently and place a pillow in her arms.

I leave the room and walk to the Hufflepuff commons area.

No one is there. Not like it matters to me.

I eventually find my way to the Gryffindor commons and walk inside.

There's 10 - 20 people, and they all either ignore me or watch as I look around the room.

Except for two people.

"MILO!" A familiar voice screams and I'm tackled to the ground.

"Hi Luna," I hug her back and manage to stand us up.

Aaron hugs both of us, lifting us in the air.

"How's my baby cousin?" Aaron asks after setting us down.

"I've been doing good! My roommates are all really nice!" I tell the two.

Luna is a year older than me and Aaron is her big brother, who's two years older than her.

"I'm glad it's been good so far. You should probably get back and go to bed soon. Classes start tomorrow," Luna warns, and kisses my cheek.

"I was planning on it, I just had to see my two favorite people before I went to sleep," I smile.

"Milo? What are you doing down here?" Kai taps my shoulder and smiles at me and my cousins.

"I'm just saying hi to my cousins. This is Aaron and this is Luna. Guys, this is Kai, my dorm's Gryffindor," I introduce the three.

Kai holds out his hand, "Nice to meet you both."

Luna grabs it and pulls him into a hug, "A friend of Milo is a friend of mine."

Aaron claps him on the back, "Nice to meet ya, kid."

Kai and I bid the two farewell and head back to our dorm. "They were nice. Very hands on," Kai says, shooting me a smile.

"That's how my whole family is. Well, on my mom's side. My great grandmother did nothing but hug and kiss people and it carried on," I explain.

We make it back to the dorm where Mari is braiding Pele's hair.

"What's up?" Pele shoots us a wink and Mari's eyes don't shift from her work as she nods in our direction.

I look at Kai and he just shrugs at the two before sitting down.

I move to my own bed and rummage through my bag until I find my book again.

It's silent, but comfortable.
