Pachinko

Author: Min Jin Lee

Summary:

In the early 1900s, teenaged Sunja, the adored daughter of a crippled fisherman, falls for a wealthy stranger at the seashore near her home in Korea. He promises her the world, but when she discovers she is pregnant — and that her lover is married — she refuses to be bought. Instead, she accepts an offer of marriage from a gentle, sickly minister passing through on his way to Japan. But her decision to abandon her home, and to reject her son's powerful father, sets off a dramatic saga that will echo down through the generations.

Richly told and profoundly moving, Pachinko is a story of love, sacrifice, ambition, and loyalty. From bustling street markets to the halls of Japan's finest universities to the pachinko parlors of the criminal underworld, Lee's complex and passionate characters — strong, stubborn women, devoted sisters and sons, fathers shaken by moral crisis — survive and thrive against the indifferent arc of history.

First of all, this isn't an LGBT+ book but an absolutely amazing read. It's historical fiction and I'd never read anything in this genre before so I wasn't expecting to like this at all. But the book had a strong hold on me from the beginning. It's very interesting to read so the chances of getting bored are low.

It's very well written and the story isn't hard to follow. It might seem like a long book but once you start reading it, it'll be very hard to put down. Honestly, this was just a really good book. I honestly would reread it.

It just never ends. I feel like I can read this book forever and not get bored. It's so difficult to explain but the flow of the story is great. It just keeps going and never lets you get bored for a single second. You'll just be reading calmly, and then BAM plot twist. It took me a really long time to finish it and I can happily say that I feel great.

My god I just finished it. I'm not good with words but that was simply one of the best books I have ever read in life. AMAZING story.
