(Flashback)
Josh stood outside of the tent, staring up to the sky, with Jenna by his side.
"Do you think we can do this?" She asked him.
"Of course we can." Josh replied. "We're gonna get Tyler back, like we promised."
Jenna stroked Josh's arms.
"Did I, ever tell you what he, did to me?"
Josh turned to her.
"Yes."
He started walking off.
"And I dare not talk about it."
"The clan needs to know the truth so that all memory of the leader can be erased. If there are still people in this clan who refuse to believe it, they must be thrown out for good."
"As the leader, I believe in second chances."
"You know Ender and Wren did terrible things to please their leader. They shouldn't live in this clan."
"I will not hear it, Jenna."
"The leader killed my friend and took my sight away! He beat Lilac right in front of me! He forced himself on me for pleasure! Ender and Wren are an abomination to this society and I don't want to live to seem them supporting you!"
"Ender and Wren are locked up right now. When Tyler is rescued, I will decide what happens to them."
(Present)
Josh was seated on his throne in the council hall, with Kai and Linh on his left, and Jenna on his right. Ari was standing with the accused, Ender and Wren, who had brought forth their defender, a brothel worker named Symon.
Symon was a believer in the previous leader, and had represented brothel workers who faced justice in the past. Josh did not trust him, and knew that he had a chance of screwing up.
Separating the accused and Josh was the brimstone of fire, which the Banditos believed would engulf with flames of guilt or innocence.
It also represented the rage Josh had towards the accused, who had attempted to end his life, take his power, and take his precious flower away from him.
At last, when the Bandito crowd was present, Josh knotted to Kai, and the trial began.
"Ender Mastel and Wren Bondarenko." Kai announced. "You both stand accused of war crimes, treason, and conspiracy to attempt murder. How do you plead?"
"My clients plead not guilty!" Symon cried; standing up from his chair.
"The accused will answer the question, Symon." Josh said. "You sit down and stay silent."
The man did as instructed, and Kai repeated the question.
"Accused, how do you plead to these charges?"
Ender looked at his wife, who sat holding her stomach in fear. They both knew what they were facing, but they stood their ground. On behalf of them both, the Bandito stood up in his defense.
"We plead not guilty."
Kai looked back to Josh, and he nodded.
It was time to present the witnesses.
"My lord, I call my first witness, Aries Soroka."
~
Ari came from his post and approached the witness chair right next to Josh's throne.
"Ari, would you raise your right hand?" Josh said.
When he did, Josh announced to him the oath.
"Do you swear or affirm that the testimony you're about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, under the penalty of perjury?"
"I do." Ari said.
"Very well, please have a seat on the witness chair."
When Ari took his seat, Kai, who served as the lead prosecutor, began questioning him.
"Last night, when we were out on our scouting trip in the woods, did you remember hearing anything suspicious?"
"Yes." Ari replied.
"What did you hear?" Kai asked.
"I heard what sounded like whispering in the air, then a faint sound of hallowing. It was both in high pitch and low pitch."
"Can you recall any words that were whispered?"
"Yes. It was Ender and Wren. They were planning on attacking us, and they tried to."
During the testimony, Symon stood up from his chair.
"Objection, my lord!" He shouted. "There is no proof that the accused said that!"
"Overruled!" Josh shouted back. "Sit down, or you'll be dismissed."
"I am finished, my lord." Kai said. "No further questions."
Symon knew his side wasn't going the way he wanted, but by the time Kai finished with direct examination of his witness, it was now his turn to cross examine Ari, and secretly try to catch him in a lie.
He stood in front of Ari, who continued to sit at the witness stand.
"Ari Soroka, what makes you say that Ender and Wren were the ones planning the ambush on Lord Josh and his group?"
"Ender Mastel is a man of unpredictability." Ari replied. "He may seem like he's under attack, but he's very clever."
"Do you think he'd be clever enough to escape from a brothel, which is merely impossible?"
"Yes."
"In the case of Wren, who is merely along in her pregnancy, would she have the strength to go along with her husband's plan?"
"Yes, I think she would."
"And, what makes you believe that?"
"Wren is very submissive to her husband. She was the first woman to fully submit to the ruthless leader of this clan, and she would blindly obey any order, even if it meant killing anyone, just like what she and Ender did to all those poor women, under the direction of the evil leader."
"You don't know that, Ari."
The Bandito man got angry, and he stood up from his chair.
"Yes I do! My fiancée, Olene Diduch, was one of the women that was brutally tortured and raped by the leader and Ender himself. She told me on the day I rescued her that it happened to her, and I'm not afraid to defend anyone who was victimized by those monsters!"
Symon was so shocked by Ari's testimony, he could not go on with cross-examining him.
"I have no further questions, my lord."
~
After a few witnesses, Symon was allowed to choose a witness himself that could defend the accused, but there was nobody that he could find that was supportive of his clients.
With no other choice, he called Ender to the witness stand.
After he was sworn in, Ender took a seat, and the questions began.
"Ender Mastel, where were you on the day of the scouting trip?" Symon asked.
"I was in the brothel, doing my work." Ender replied.
"You didn't leave or anything?"
"If I was to leave, I would be escorted."
"Before you became a Bandito, did you serve under the Lord Nico of Dema?"
Ender lied.
"No, I've always been loyal."
"You've never betrayed Trench, even under our previous leader?"
Once again, Ender lied under his teeth.
"No."
Symon nodded, but knew he was lost.
"No further questions, my lord."
As the final witness to the trial, Kai was allowed to question him.
He approached Ender in the witness stand, his eyes snarling with rage. Linh stood nearby. She too was ready to get some answers.
"Ender, did you really think you were going to get away with this?" Kai asked.
Ender chuckled.
"What have I gotten away with?"
The man got closer to him and looked him straight in the eyes.
"I want you to reveal to us what happened to Lilac Stasiuk."
Immediately, Symon stood up.
"Objection! This is irrelevant to the trial!"
"Overruled." Josh said. "Continue with the question."
"Ender, tell us what happened to her." Kai asked.
The wicked man knew he was not gonna hide from all the crimes he committed. He looked towards the crowd of Banditos, and towards Linh, who wanted to know the truth about what happened to woman she was married to for 9 years.
"I killed Lilac Stasiuk, under the direction of the leader."
When Kai heard this, he was taken a back. Linh had to hold herself from sobbing, and Josh stared in disgust.
"How did you kill her?"
Ender went into the story, and did not shed an ounce of emotion.
"On the day Lilac betrayed us, I beat her until she was lifeless. She was bloody and unrecognizable, and was begging for me to let her live."
"What did you do next?"
Ender took a deep breath.
"I strangled her to death, with my bare hands."
When he said that, Linh dropped to the floor; sobbing. Jenna came to her side and consoled her. Ender's story sent shivers down everyone's spine, including Josh's.
Kai had to know why he killed Lilac.
"Why did you kill her?"
"I didn't want her to suffer anymore."
At last, when everything was done, Kai looked to his master.
"I have no further questions."
In the end, after the trial concluded, the fates of Ender and Wren fell into Josh's hands.
