Chapter 13: Bond
Levi's POV
A few strums on the guitar, I felt that I was at the bottom of a pit. I know I told Nanaba about marrying Hanji... but now that I think of it... I don't know much about marriage. I just know that there's a ring involved... a good place to propose... then we get into details of a wedding. So much things to plan... one small problem can unravel into an unwinding mess. I can't afford to screw it up... not now. Not yet.
Thinking to myself in this empty recording studio, I strummed a few notes, letting my fingers do the work. "Can't you feel how it warms me inside to be around you?" I don't know what overcame me... I just played until I couldn't. "For everything has a little reason... and I'm just wandering. We wandered... wandering around without a reason. Oh... when our paths had crossed, I knew we were destined to have a hand with each other." My hand quickly strummed a bit more, but there was nothing I could say about anything else.
"For little mistakes were made..." I looked up and saw Hanji slowly walking towards me. "I'm just ever so glad to have met you..."
"And in that time, we were able to have such an unbreakable bond..."
Hanji knelt and leaned her head on my shoulder. We gazed into each other's eyes and it was like... we could read each other's minds for what we could say next. "For I will stay by your side... forevermore. I don't care what the road has set us on... I will stay by your side..."
As a small solo, I kissed her lips and continued on singing, leaving her behind on the song. "I shall never destroy that bond... though I will strength it. From the red yarn into a sturdy titanium rod. I will keep building that bond, for if it gets destroyed, I could never have you in my arms..."
Hanji smiled softly, stopping me from strumming any more notes. "You should make that your new song. Just a solo one."
"I can't have it as a solo... it would be a nice duet though." With a smug chuckle on my face, I kissed her again. "Though... I'm not sure what Isabel and Farlan would say. Yeah, I'm the lead singer and lead guitarist... I don't think I can go it alone. And if you want to participate... that baby gotta hide pretty well."
She chuckles, taking my hands and laying it gently on her stomach. "Well... just for one concert?"
"Your friend's gonna know something's up."
"Is it alright that I can tell her about... your real identity?" She scoots closer, pressing her pregnant self against my side. "And how I can have a chance to be a singer with you? Just for one concert..."
"Consult with Isabel and Farlan first, Hanji... whatever they say, majority rules. If they both say yes, you got my vote. If they both say no, no words to Nanaba. But if it's a tied... you gotta convince all of us to tell her. But let's discuss if they do say yes. Nanaba has to keep an unbreakable oath to never tell another soul. It could break us apart."
"I understand all the consequences, Levi. I'll keep her in line. Though I can't control if she starts to bawl her eyes out... she loved you as a singer for many years."
Chuckling to myself, I wrapped my arms around her. I embraced her even more. "Well... she may like me as a singer, but I love you for who you are. You don't even love me for my singing abilities... am I right?"
Her caramel eyes bounced a bit, looking awkwardly away. "Ahhh..."
"Hanji, tell me the truth."
"It's... not that bad... though I really love you as... Levi Ackerman. Not this... Captain persona. I love you as the man who helped me through that heart-break phrase... and the man who is also my new boss at work. The man who-"
"Don't give a speech if you're just praising me, Han." I chuckled, kissing her once more. "I rather hear you praising me normally. Not a speech... I hate speeches."
Her hands slowly crept on my arm as she nuzzled her head in my chest. "Eh... come on, I'm hungry. Make me something to eat."
Checking my phone, I sighed with exhaustion. "You're really hungry... at 2 in the morning? Don't want to eat leftovers or something? The pasta that Farlan made was pretty tasty. You sure? What do you want me to make for you?"
"I'm craving for... some of that good ramen. Ramen sounds amazing... you know, your specialty one? The one with some of that crab and bamboo and-"
"Ugh... help me make it then. Go and boil some water. Remember: don't add the salt to it! Give me a few seconds before I come there, alright?" She sighed and tried to oppose me, but I wouldn't have it. "Either you can eat Farlan's pasta, or you go and boil water for my ramen."
She rose her hands as she got up. "Fine..."
Scoffing softly, I watched her leave the studio, and I was left alone. My fingers gently strummed the cords, and tried to think everything through. The song that we just made up... her love for ramen... maybe it wouldn't hurt if I proposed to her in an empty park... have a midnight picnic... and play a song right before I propose. Either way... I know she loves me either way. If one aspect is out of place... she wouldn't mind it. I think she'll embrace it. Makes proposing to her less of a stressful task.
