Chapter 31: Apologies

Zeke's POV

Hanging around the forest with Levi, I'm beginning to draw the lines. I never thought she would've met Levi... but the way he was so calm with her, he had to know her. Plus, Zayne has been smiling at him. I doubt a child would smile toward Levi- I believe that they would think Levi is a scary man. I thought Zayne looked familiar, but I threw that idea away... but now... I think it's true.

Levi's the father of Zayne. And he got her pregnant again. A glance around the forest, I see them all drinking the wine with my spinal fluid. If Levi is the father of Hanji's children, she would never forgive me if he dies in my hands. She would never trust me, perhaps try to kill me. I don't want to lose her because she's the only one that understands what is going on in my head.

The fact that she's pregnant again... explains the cravings she had lately. Those odd ones she had when she was pregnant with Zayne. I guess that she's already 3 months in again. I shook my head, wanting to go on with the plan to eliminate every Eldian from having children... but how would that affect Hanji?

Would the baby be lost because of that order? Or will she continue to give birth since the child has already been conceived? If I can get in touch with the founder, I'll request that Hanji would be able to have her child in peace. If not, I'll beg. I'll grovel to grant Hanji a safe birth for her child... even if it's Levi's. It's still my childhood friend's baby.

"What are you smirking about?" Levi scowled, sitting next to me. His hand touches the blade, and I watch it twitch in the air.

"Just enjoying my 5-star hotel, Levi."

He gave another eye-roll before going through his pocket. It was on the opposite side of me, so I couldn't see what he had in his hand before tucking back into his pocket. If he truly loves Hanji, it must've been a picture of her. He gets up and walks across the camp, talking with one of the Survey Corps members.

I'm sorry, Hanji, but I have to do it. To protect the future of Eldia... I have to do it. I followed through with my plan.

I woke up, feeling my arms tied up. Levi was looking forward toward the horses and back to me. His eyes lowered and grew smaller when he saw my eyes. "You're awake, you little bastard."

"I had to."

"Had to." He scoffs, shaking his head. "You got a Thunder Spear impaled in you, ready to blow up if you move. I suggest you don't move."

He survived... which I shouldn't be surprised. Maybe I was blinded by Hanji that I didn't make a good plan.

I gasped for breath, trying to speak. "I... need to know... now that everyone isn't here..."

Levi turned to me, his silver eyes piercing me. "You killed that entire squad to get me alone to talk? A terrible play. And you're supposed to be one of the smartest guys in Marley. Not the brightest, huh?"

"You're Zayne's father... right? I didn't want to think of that... a man like you getting involved with someone with the Warriors of Marley..."

"I don't know what you're talking about-."

"Has she told you about her cravings...?" The sound of the horses clacking their hooves against the beaten path as the wheels of this creaky chariot moved was the only sound to be heard, other than my voice. "She's been eating the same thing lately... exactly the same thing that she ate while she was pregnant with Zayne. Her little pickles with chocolate..."

Levi swung his head, and I could see the despair on his face as whatever color was left drained. That was confirmation that he was her little lover.

"I should've seen it sooner. Her son looks nothing like her parents, so it had to be from the father. I thought I saw you in Zayne, but I shook it off, thinking that it was nothing but my imagination shaking me. But you both have confirmed it... you two are lovers... and she's expecting-."

The sound of a flare went up as I saw something black float in the air. They were close.

"Don't come any closer! It's rigged-." Before I could finish my words, someone shot the wheel of this cart, and I felt something snap as my arms were slightly looser than earlier. I felt the heat of the spear activating... and I think I sentenced the both of us to death.

Hanji... I'm sorry...
