Chapter 5: Reveal

???

His scent... I smell it. He stinks of human blood. It woke me awake. He was here. Feeling the terror, I nudged him awake, whining and doing whatever I could to wake him up. A few barks were enough. He needs to get out of here. For someone taking care of me... I have to save him.

Levi's POV

Not even one hour of sleep, Annabelle was whining.

"Seriously?" I grumbled awake, turning on the light. "What? Do you need to go to the bathroom?"

Annabelle used her teeth to tug at my shirt, whining softly. I crawled out of bed, stumbling towards the door. Once I opened it, Annabelle darted out, running straight for the car. Gently, she stood on her hind legs, putting her paws on my car. A few scratches, but nothing serious.

"What?" I sighed, "We're not going anywhere. I need another hour at least. Maybe 5 more before Petra gets mad."

Annabelle continued to whimper, looking at the car.

"Annabelle," I hissed, reaching for her scruff. "We're not going anywhere, okay? I can't keep going. Give me another hour."

I made my way back into the motel, and Annabelle quickly ran towards my gun with silver bullets. I shouted her name as she brought it to me before darting underneath the bed. As I was about to question it, I heard it. Those growls... wolf growls. Annabelle was scared, so she wouldn't be growling.

"Ah, the hunter."

Whoever walked into my motel room clicked on the lights. I see... 5 of them. 5 of them walked into the room. 3 of them were wolves while the woman and the man stayed in their human forms. I knew exactly who they were: werewolves.

I clicked my gun, aiming at the man in the middle, the one who spoke to me. "Who the hell are you?"

"Listen, I would've killed you without a second thought, Mr. Ackerman. But all I want is that wolf. Where is she? Surely you didn't kill her... I smell her here. Hand her over to me. I wouldn't kill you if you just give her to me."

"What do you want with her?" I continued to aim at his heart. "Who is she to you?"

"She's meant to be my mate." A werewolf and a regular wolf? Is that possible? It only makes sense if... my eyes widened as I concluded my thoughts. She's a werewolf... "Now please, hand her over."

"She's not a werewolf..." I scowled, but I thought back to it all. Her odd behaviors and how she's able to escape from various places. She's a werewolf... why didn't she kill me? She had so many opportunities to kill me... unless he's bluffing... Annabelle's a regular wolf...

"I assure you that she is." The werewolf raised his hands in the air and chuckled, "Come on out, Hanji! You deceived him long enough! Show yourself!"

"You probably got the wrong wolf-."

"That wolf is Hanji!" He scowled, giving a slight whistle. Behind me, I felt someone kicking me to my knees. "Hanji... I'll kill this hunter. I'll kill this hunter and ensure that all you see is red. Or you can just give yourself up. Leave this hunter."

Where's Annabelle...? Is she still under the bed?

"Hanji!"

I felt the werewolf grabbing me to the ground, forcing me to look into the room. I could see Annabelle's eyes from under the bed... I could faintly see them full of sorrow... I know she's scared... but that begs the question... is she a human or is she a monster?

A blade was ready at my throat, and I felt its sharp edge slowly slicing my skin. "Hanji, hurry it up. Reveal yourself-."

Annabelle leaps out from under the bed, and I see her pouncing onto the werewolf, snarling her fangs at him. I quickly turned onto my back, readying my gun, only to see Annabelle guarding me. Her teeth were showing as well... such a scary creature.

The male werewolf smirked, seeing Annabelle. "Why, hello, Hanji... why don't you come back home? Come back home to me."

Annabelle then pounced onto him, and then... I saw it. The way she transformed into a human... I couldn't believe it... "I will never go back home to you." She growled, "I'll never be yours. Leave. Now."

"Hanji... come on-."

"Your pack kills people. Knowing my pack, they would've run away. I only agreed to be here so they can leave. You'll never find them, Dirk. I'll never be yours. Now leave!" She growled to him. "And all of you, just leave! I don't want to associate with you guys. Murderers!"

Dirk got up from the ground, snarling. "I'll make you want me. I love you, Hanji."

"Leave!"

They all turned into wolves, and Dirk snapped at Annabelle- no, Hanji... he snapped at her before running out of the motel room. She must've forgotten about me because she fell back to the ground, wincing at her left leg. From its sheath, I reached for a silver dagger and quickly pounced onto the werewolf, leaving its silver blade against her chest.

She didn't resist, only wincing at the pain of the silver burning her. "Who the hell are you? Why the hell did you trick me?"

"I-I'l explain it later-."

"I'm already up and angry. Tell me now, and I won't pierce your sensitive heart. Explain everything! Who are you and why did you trick me?!"

"M... My name is Hanji... Hanji Zoe... I'm part of a pack that hides with humans. I didn't mean to trick you. I wanted to leave that town. You saved me, and I hope that you would give me a safe passage. I wanted to run away as soon as you took me away from there..."

Nothing could explain how disgusted I was. I promised Petra that we were having a wolf at our house... but for that wolf to reveal herself as a werewolf... "Dammit." I scowled, pulling the dagger away from her chest. "Why did you call them murderers?"

"Those murders you were solving... those were from Dirk's pack."

"And you're his mate?"

"I refuse to be that." Hanji sighed, looking down at her hands. "I said earlier that I'm part of a pack that hides with humans... and we don't kill humans. We ignored our instincts of killing humans for their hearts so much that we don't have a desire for them. We can digest human food easily. Dirk's pack cannot eat human food. Ever since he found werewolves eating humans and no hunters after us, he wanted to mate with one of us to birth a perfect werewolf. One that can hide with humans and kill them."

"Why did you accept it?"

"I accepted it because he was going to kill my pack. My parents, my brother, everyone. I only agreed so they can escape. And before you ask, werewolves work differently than humans. We only have children with our mates. Dirk wants me, but I do not want him. Therefore, we cannot be mates and he cannot have a perfect child."

Hanji began to tear up as she caressed her injured leg. "Please," she began, "help me find my pack. Once you do, I'll leave. I want to be home again."

"I thought werewolves can heal," I remembered seeing a werewolf healing himself before me. A troublesome one to kill. "Why can't you?"

"They eat human hearts... human hearts are some sort of power source to us. Not only does it feed us, but it enhances our abilities. The werewolves that do not eat hearts cannot heal quickly because we act more human-like. We don't transform under the full moon. Those that do eat human hearts... well, they are opposite of us."

My first thought was to throw her out onto the road, let her find her pack alone. But something told me to not let her go. Part of me believes it was the piece of the mind that was grateful for her. If she hates those werewolves that murder humans, I can ask her for help to kill them. I get to rid of these dangerous creatures, and she can find answers to find her pack. Seems reasonable to me.

But what about Petra? Do I tell her? Or is she going to freak out...?

She's going to freak out either way... I have a few more days until I get home.

"Fine. But you still need to act like a dog. Did you break your cast when you transformed?"

"No. It's just like regular clothes; when I transform, I'll have my cast back-."

"Then stay as a wolf. Only transform back when it's necessary." I scowled, pointing at the couch, "You're not sleeping on the same bed as me." Hanji looked down when I said that. If you had a dog that always slept next to you, but suddenly turns into a human, you would've done the same thing.
