Chapter 49: First Case

Hanji's POV

For once, I was the first one to wake up in the hotel room. I pulled the blankets over my bare body, scooting myself closer to Levi. I didn't handcuff him to the bed, but he did still wear it... for my sake... I kissed his cheek, hearing him groan as he woke up.

"What?"

"Nothing... just hungry..."

"What time is it?"

"Uhh..." I checked the clock, seeing it read the time, "7:21." Levi sighed, "At least it's not 5 in the morning..." I giggle, nuzzling my head into his bare chest. "I just want to stay here... forever..."

"But we can't. We got a job to do." He grunts, sitting up and holding his handcuffed wrists to me. "If you please unlock the cuffs."

I began to look around for the key, but realize it wasn't on the bedside table anymore. "Levi... we might have a problem..."

As my punishment, I was left in the car as he went and gathered information. I should be in there with him... after all, I'm his life-long partner. Both during the hunts and in our life. But as he was gone for at least an hour, I couldn't help but grow impatient. I wanted to call Raven, but I know she's busy with my pack. I want to get out of the car and search for Levi... but I have a feeling that things would go well if I just stayed.

More minutes passed by, and I see Levi walking out with a woman. They were chatting, and I couldn't help but feel jealous. Then, something weird happened. She tried to kiss him. But Levi held up his right hand, the back of his hand towards the woman. The woman slowly backed away before Levi came back to the car.

When he sat down, he started talking to me... but I looked down at his hand, seeing he was still wearing his wedding ring. My heart leaped a bit as I saw it, knowing that it's warding off other people... but I remember he didn't want to wear it on the job because it might put me and Raven in danger.

"You listening?"

"Ah, yes..."

"Then what did I say?" He stared at me as I struggled to get the words out of my mouth. "So you weren't listening to me."

I sighed, nodding my head. "Sorry... I'm just... distracted."

"By what?"

"Nothing, it's nothing, Levi."

He turns his body towards me, wrapping his right hand around my waist, "Hanji, I need to know. What's going on?" When I didn't respond, Levi lowered his voice, "Hanji, I need to know because if something's bothering you, you'll lower your guard and a lot of things would happen unexpectedly to you. I need you to have a clear head right now... because I don't want you hurt."

"Your wedding ring..." His eyebrow raised when I brought it up, "You're wearing your wedding ring. I thought... you weren't going to wear it on the job. Why did you wear it now? And don't tell me that you forgot to take it off... that ring was not on your finger this morning when we woke up."

Levi chuckles, kissing my cheek, "That's it? You're worried about my ring?"

"It's stupid, I know-."

"I kept it on... because I felt like I should have it today. Good thing too. That receptionist was flirting with me."

"You flaunt your handsomeness to her and she fell in love?"

Once more, he chuckles before planting a kiss. "I didn't do anything. She just... wanted to kiss me. Still thankful I trusted my gut and kept the ring on. Otherwise, I think you would've killed both me and her."

"I'll hang you upside down in front of my pack, claw your insides out, and stuff them down your throat."

"Exactly. Are we good now?"

I nod my head as he began to give his findings to me. But of course, I drifted away, falling asleep at his side. After that...  I don't remember much.

We were outside of the abandoned house in the woods as we were preparing to enter. I debated on if I should be a wolf or a human when I start charging in. As a wolf, they'll be stunned to see someone like them fighting against them and I'll be able to quickly get to Levi if he's in danger. But my wolf form is only good in close combat. In my human form, I'm able to use my gun at a far distance. Thanks to Levi, I'm one of the best shooters he has ever seen.

Levi plants a kiss on my cheek, steering me back to reality. "You ready?"

I smiled, finally choosing a form. "I am. Let's go."

Levi kisses me once more before I shifted into my wolf form. He stifles a chuckle before handling his gun. "Lead the way, Hanji."

Trotting over to the place where it was easier to break into, Levi drew out his silver blade, stabbing werewolves in the heart, killing them as they slept in the night. He must've executed at least 10 here. It was a medium-sized pack... while he killed the werewolves, I guided him throughout the house, sniffing out any possible danger.

I'll be honest, my nose has gotten a bit stronger since I first met Levi... I'm able to detect things a bit more distinctly. This case seemed easy for returning hunters. If anything, Levi needs to build up his body a bit more since he's just been taking care of Raven and teaching classes. Though I'll be honest, I think changing diapers dampened my sense of smell a bit.

Either way, when we got to the pack leader, he was a difficult one to deal with. Running at us in his wolf form, Levi shot a few bullets but missed. Those silver bullets dug themselves into the leader's legs, slowing him down. For some reason, he kept trying to run at us... why...?

I jumped onto the wolf, biting down with my jaws until I heard it whimper in pain, attempting to shake me off. But if playing with Raven when she was a baby taught me anything, I never let my grip go. I kept my jaws clamped shut on its nape as Levi ran over to us and stabbed the wolf in its cold, cruel heart.

That's when I shifted back into a human, panting heavily from the amount of energy I wasted in those few seconds.

"Hanji! Are you okay?"

I smiled, nodding my head, "I'm fine... can we go see Raven now...?"
