Chapter 43: What Rain Brings
Levi's POV
Rolling my sleeves as I began to prepare spaghetti for dinner, my eyes slowly catch Hanji in her wolf form asleep next to Raven. Hanji had gently tucked her furry body against Raven's small one. Her nose touched Raven's arm... and I could see her fluffy tail swaying back and forth as she slept. I chuckled, knowing I had a few photos of Hanji doing that. Another one wouldn't hurt to add to the collection. Hanji began to yawn, getting up from her sleeping position before transforming back into her human form.
"Seems like she inherited your fear of thunderstorms."
"At least the lightning and thunder aren't as often," Hanji says, gently picking up Raven from her fortress of pillows. "I'll tuck her in for the night, okay?"
"Dinner isn't going to be done by the time you come back down, you know."
Hanji smiles softly, "I know. Say goodnight, Raven." She says to our daughter gently as she ascends the stairs. Each step creaking under their weight. She's not old enough to talk, but I think Hanji wants our daughter to start talking at an early age.
I began to boil a pot of water when I heard a loud knock at the door. I put a lid on the pot before walking over, hoping they won't knock at the door anymore. My hand quickly slipped towards my gun with silver bullets near the front door as I opened it. What a strange sight it was...
Petra was at my door, shielding her face. "I... I know I have no business being here... I... want to ask if I can stay for one night..." My eyes looked out into the dark world, seeing a bright yellow object exiting a car and running towards my door. "Please, I-."
"Mommy, Mommy," The object cries, running to Petra.
"Klaus, I said for you to stay in the car," Petra says sternly. "Go back in the car."
"Is he gonna hurt you...?"
"No, he... he was a friend of Mommy's," Petra replied, "I'm sorry for bothering you this late, Levi."
Petra turned around with her son's hand in tow. Then... something told me to stop her. Maybe because it was that I have a daughter that I wanted to help her. When I think of her, I just remember what we had and how we ended things. There's nothing that's telling me that I still love her... and that's a good thing. But maybe it's because of what her son said about me hurting her.
"Wait," I say, opening the door wide. "Klaus, that's your name? Come inside."
Petra, in utter shock, gently pushed her son inside. "It's okay, listen to the man." I let Klaus in, "Levi, I'm sorry-."
"Why did you come back here? After all these years... you come back here. I know before you tried coming back to be friends, but I turned you away because I was heartbroken and still healing. But most importantly, what did he mean by that? The hurting part."
Petra revealed her face, showing a black eye on her right side. "Because I don't think I have anywhere else to go... I know I ended things wrong... but just one night... can we just stay here for one night? We'll leave in the morning, I promise."
I sighed, "Married?"
"By the law, yes. But I've been separated from Klaus' father. I went back to him to get him to sign divorce papers and... well, this happened. Klaus saw everything, and I just took him... I took Klaus and kept driving."
"You were here before, weren't you? I thought I kept seeing familiar cars. Couldn't place my finger on it."
Petra nods, "That's when we were planning of separating. But I turned away from the idea of running to you. We weren't friends... but it was the last straw when Klaus saw everything. I'm sorry."
"I'll let you stay for one night under one condition, you tell me everything about what happened. And just so you know, I'm married." I say, and I watched her eyes widen with surprise. I lead her inside, seeing Klaus still in his yellow raincoat. "You can take it off. Do you have any allergies?"
The boy tilted his head, "What are allergies?"
"Levi, he's not allergic to anything. Why?"
"I was making spaghetti for dinner. Just wanted to make sure. Dinner won't be done for a while, so you guys can shower." I was going to suggest the old guest room upstairs, but I forgot we transformed that place into Raven's nursery. "There's a room down here, remember, Petra?"
"I do. Come on, Klaus." They walked off as I prepped for dinner.
How the hell am I going to explain this to Hanji?
As if she heard my calls, Hanji began to walk down the stairs, smiling softly. "I almost fell asleep in the crib with Raven- Levi, what's wrong?"
"Did you not hear any other noise?"
"No, I said I almost fell asleep in Raven's crib." She raised an eyebrow as she cautiously walked toward me. "Levi, you're scaring me... what's going on?"
"Petra came. With her son. She came with a black eye from her ex-husband. Right now, they're taking turns showering in the bathroom down here. I should've talked with you first, but I said they can stay the night. Just one night." I say, smiling at her and wrapping my arms around her, "Hanji, I just want to clarify that I love you and no one else."
"She has a son?" I nod my head, "Then you did the right thing. I mean... helping someone is always the right thing... and it's just for one night?"
"I promise that they can stay for one night. I wanted to ask you for your opinion on this situation."
I began to start making spaghetti as Hanji and I exchanged pros and cons about Petra and her son staying. Before we could finish, I saw Klaus walking into the hall, but froze when he saw me and Hanji.
Hanji stopped talking with me before turning her complete attention to Klaus. "Hey there, I'm Hanji. What's your name?"
"Klaus..."
"Klaus. That's a wonderful name. Tell you what, why don't we watch some TV? You can pick whatever you want to watch. What would you like to watch? A movie? A TV show? Which one? And don't worry, if dinner finishes before it ends, we can watch it after we eat, okay?"
Klaus looked at her with his amber-colored eyes... and they truly resembled Petra's. "I...I wanna watch the train movie..."
"Oh? The new one?"
He nods, "But it is expensive..."
Hanji chuckles, leading him into the living room. "Oh, don't worry. We have the movie. How old are you, Klaus?"
"3." He replies.
"I know someone just about your age, Klaus. His name is Eren, and he loves the train movies! So we would often watch that movie. Don't worry, okay?"
Just as I finished prepping for dinner, Petra walks into the kitchen, still trying to hide her face. Our eyes met, and I point a knife at the stool. "Let's talk, Petra."
