Chapter 37: Morning After

Hanji's POV

My body felt sore when I opened my eyes this morning. Levi wasn't in bed with me, but I could hear the shower running. I closed my eyes, remembering the amazing night before. A side of Levi I didn't expect. For the years I've been with him... he hid that side from me. I hear the faucet turn and the sound of water faded away.

I turned my body over to the side, watching Levi walk out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist and another towel on his head. He didn't seem to look at the bed when he walked around to the drawers. I didn't say anything until he was unwrapping the towel around his waist.

"How dare you shower and get dressed without letting me see you."  Levi whipped his head back to me with his eyes wide. "Good morning to you too, Levi."

"Hanji... I didn't realize you were awake." He smirked, slowly walking to my side and kissing my cheek. "Good morning, my love... sleep well?"

"I did... considering the sex we had last night. You were a monster..."

He slowly drifted his lips down my neck and to my breasts. "I was? Maybe I'm just happy to have you as my wife."

"Who are you and what have you done with Levi?" I joked, feeling Levi's hand snaking up to my stomach. "A monster in bed and love the idea of being married? What changed you?"

"You did," he replies, kissing the valley between my breasts. "I want to be by your side...forever. But the monster in bed? I don't think I was. If I was, it's probably a bit different since we are married. Are you going to sleep in again?"

I was about to say yes, then when Levi's black eye sparked my memory. "No, I want to see the werewolf that tried to frame you. I want him dead."

Levi freezes as he groaned, "I don't want you near him-."

"I deserve to see him." I scowled, kissing Levi's cheek. "Please, I need to see him. If you're executing him, I want to see the light leave his eyes. He should know better than to kill someone innocent. He's the one who interfered with your relationship with this pack. I want to see him."

He gives into my pleas, only replying, "As long as you're not within 4 feet of him. I don't want you hurt."

"That's fine. I'm not going to let him hurt one of the best things that have happened to this pack of ours."

Levi carried me on his back downstairs, holding my legs tightly like he would during sex. I nuzzled my face over his right shoulder as he carried me. He didn't lose his grip on me once. But when I began to slip down his back, he adjusted me. My arms tightened around his neck as I held him close... feeling his warmth. I could feel he had a little stubble of hair on his cheek- like he missed a spot while shaving.

That's so unlike you, Levi...

I smiled softly as I thought about Levi shaving. I never saw him do that... which startles me...

"Levi. And... Hanji?" Erwin had turned the corner when we got out of the elevators. "I thought she'll be sleeping in today."

"I want to see the werewolf that tried to ruin my mate's life," I growled, "and don't you dare try to stop me."

Erwin raised his hands as an act of surrender, "I know better than to argue with a pregnant woman. He's downstairs, but because you're pregnant, I don't want you to be too close to him. I want to see the little pup that you always dreamed of."

"I won't be within 4 feet of him. Don't worry. Just show me where the hell he is and who he is."

I don't recognize Lester. I try to remember him, but I can't. He claims to be a family friend of ours, but I don't know him. According to Erwin, when he transforms into a wolf, Lester smells of dirt. I don't remember anyone who smelled like that. But Dad seemed to know him well.

As I was staring at Lester, Mom and a few other werewolves came downstairs. "What's going on?"

"It's an execution," Nanaba says, "I guess your husband is... innocent." The way she rolled that last word off her tongue sounded like she was disgusted to admit it.

These were a few people that were afraid of Levi as a murderer... and since we don't want to execute our people, Levi was elected to be the executioner. Why do I get the feeling that whenever they needed a werewolf executed, or even a human, they'll ask for Levi to do it for them? Keeps their hands clean while Levi's hands continue to get stained with blood. I don't like it... but that's a job that he might be granted as a part of the pack. Everyone has some sort of job that helps the pack...

Dad began to speak about the crimes that Lester did, and Lester confessed it too. Claiming Levi was one of the humans that would not only ruin my life but ruin this pack's life. How inviting a human into the pack without turning him into a werewolf is terrible. Inviting a hunter as a member of the pack is dangerous. That's what he claimed.

"That's because you don't know Levi!" I cried, running towards Lester as he was chained to the ground. "I know him!"

"Hanji-." Levi tried to stop me from advancing toward Lester, but my voice was loud and I hope that it would help everyone trust my mate.

"I love him because he's just as good as any werewolf in this pack. But I chose him because even though he could be as good as any werewolf in this pack, he's not a werewolf. Yes, he's human, but some humans are loyal to the people they pledge their loyalty to! Not all of them are evil! There are good in the world! Just like how there are bad and good werewolves! Humans are the same! I would die for Levi, and he would do the same for me! You can shut the hell up about Levi! You don't know him the way I do!"

"You're just a plaything for him!" He shouts, "He only uses you for sex and nothing else! You're a victim to him!"

"He's not! If I was just a plaything to him, then why would he go to extra lengths to be with me?! If a werewolf did the same to you, you would claim that it's normal! Humans and werewolves are the same- even if we are different! Our kind of werewolves is closer to a human!"

Before Lester could say another word, Dad began to speak sternly and proudly. "Levi, please start the execution."

"I got it." He says before turning back to me, "Thank you for defending me, Hanji..."

"As I said, I would die for you... I will do anything to defend you."

"Do you still want to stay?"

"I want to see the light leave his eyes. He should have never killed that werewolf. He's a monster in this community. He needs to know that wherever he's going, it's not a happy place."

Levi nods his head, kissing my cheek. "Okay then."

With his gun filled with silver bullets, Levi aimed it at Lester's heart, not saying anything else. Only Dad said the words of farewell, and the bullet was shot through Lester's heart. He falls down dead, and I did exactly what I wanted to do. I saw the light leave his eyes... and I saw that a threat that haunted the two of us was gone now.

Levi and I made eye contact, seeing each other. We smiled at each other before he had to be called away to dispose of the werewolf's body. What a day to start our married life...
