Chapter 22: Werewolf Children

Levi's POV

"He's scary..." I hear one of the children whisper to another. They were about 5 or so. The rest were already at their school, so only the young ones were at the hotel.

"Don't say that before he becomes even scarier!" A little girl shouts at the boy who spoke. "But yeah, he's scary..."

"But Miss Hanji likes him!" Another child shouts. "We should be very nice. Who cares if he's scary? If Miss Hanji likes him, then he's a good guy."

How on earth would they know Hanji likes me? They're just children. Unless it's some sort of a werewolf thing... either way, they're scared of me. Is it because I'm a hunter? A human? Perhaps both?

"Do you really kill bad werewolves?" A brunet boy looked up at me with green eyes. "Everyone says that hunters kill all werewolves."

"I do. I kill the bad ones."

I watched his eyes light up. "So are you a good guy or a bad guy? Everyone says that all werewolf hunters are bad guys because they kill good werewolves too! We trust Miss Hanji... but you're a hunter."

I knelt to the ground, shaking my head. "I don't kill good werewolves. Miss Hanji is a good werewolf. And you're a part of her pack. I'm not going to hurt you or any other good werewolves. Only the bad werewolves. I promise."

"Whoa... even a scary guy is a good guy..." He smiles, giggling softly. "Miss Hanji is lucky to have a good guy!"

"She is, isn't she?" I smiled softly.

He nods his head, "Uh-huh! And Miss Hanji would love it if-"

"Eren!" I saw a woman who looked very similar to the boy. "Eren, what are you doing? I told you to not talk to strangers!"

"But Mommy, he's a good guy, not a bad guy. He only kills bad werewolves."

"Still, he's a stranger. I don't know who he is." The mother pulls the young boy away, and I simply chuckled. I don't remember much when it came to my mom, but I'm sure I never did that to her.

I turned back to the other children, who were off playing with Hanji's gifts. I always thought of them as rascals and greedy tiny humans. But these children... they're very curious. I can overlook their messy ways. I see why Petra wanted one of these rascals... but either way, I chose Hanji... and I cannot break someone else's heart...

"Levi," I turned to see Hanji carrying a baby in her arms. I almost freaked out seeing that baby. "I see you're distracting yourself with the pups."

"Distracting? Pfft, no, I'm not. Whose baby is that?"

"Oh, her? This is Anna. She's my friend's daughter. Just wanted my friend to take a break from taking care of her baby for a bit. Don't worry, we can spend some time together once I give Anna back to her mother-."

"It's fine," I waved my hands, seeing Hanji as a mom. That I can't get out of my head... "We have enough time to be together- and alone."

A small smirk grew on her face as I said that last word. "Anyways... uhh, I honestly don't know what to do."

"Maybe we can go swimming? The entire time I've known you, I have never seen you in a bathing suit."

Hanji gently wrapped her hands to cup the little girl's ears. "Shh, she can hear you, you know, you horny bastard."

"One, she's too young to understand words-."

"Or she could have that... I forgot what it's called, but it's where children can remember everything- even when they're babies."

My hands were put on my hips as I scowled, "She's not going to understand it until she's older. And don't call me horny. I'm not." But, I know she's right. I want to see her stripped of her clothes... "When do you have time?"

"Uhh, after I check in with all the children, I should be fine. That should be... right after lunch."

"Then after lunch, want to go to the swimming pool."

Hanji smirked and her eyes twinkled like the stars. She's going to say something weird again... I just know it. "We're not allowed to swim within an hour of eating."

"We don't need to swim, weirdo. Just sit in the water. Maybe a bit of kissing."

"As long as the children don't see, Levi..." We shared a kiss, letting our foreheads touch. "I don't want to ruin their innocent minds."

"I know how it feels to have their innocence ripped away at a young age. So, I won't even try."

"Wait, Levi, what do you mean-."

"Hanji!" We both turned to see someone else with children clawing at her pants. "Hanji, we need your help here!"

"Coming!" Hanji turns back to me, "We'll talk more about that later, okay? I'll be back. See you at lunch!" And that was the last time I saw her in the morning. She was too busy with the children, and I didn't want to join her. But something tugged in my heart, and I gave up... I followed her. I think I just wanted to be with her...

I found myself in the hotel's daycare. All the children here were werewolves. Hanji and another woman were playing with the toddlers and caring for the infants. I never thought how big her pack was. A few of the young children ran around, tossing toys and making a huge mess. Although a few were cleaning up after themselves. Those I paid attention to.

Is it wrong to rethink about having children?

There was something that Eren was talking about... something that Hanji wanted... but he was with his mother, so I couldn't talk to him. Either way, his mother wouldn't let me near him. Everyone knows I'm a hunter... even the children. I'm just an outcast that's fallen in love with one of their pack members. Not just that... not just any pack member... Hanji's practically a princess!

"Huh? Levi, you're here?" Hanji smiled softly when she caught me. "Come on, I'll tell you more about werewolves while we're here. Especially werewolf training for the pups."

"Hanji, come on, seriously?" The woman with the boyish haircut scowled at me. "You shouldn't tell hunters our secrets."

"Then, I'll tell my mate about our secrets, Nanaba," Hanji smirked, turning to me.

"M-Mates...?"

"I mated with him last night. We're bound for life, Nanaba." Can you guys stop saying that? It sounds like it was a ritual. But, I guess it is a ritual for werewolves, but not for me. It's not a ritual for me. But the fact that Hanji's not even fazed! Are you not embarrassed, Hanji?!

Nanaba, cleared her throat, turning away from me. "As long as he's not using it against us."

"He wouldn't dare, Nanaba. He wouldn't dare."

Hanji passed off Anna to Nanaba before taking my hand and leading me to a small group of young children. She went off with her eyes lit up as she talked about every child in her pack. She knew what they liked, hated, wanted, everything. She adjusted herself whenever it came to a certain child.

For example, she talked about Eren again. He says that sometimes he gets bored and likes to play mischievously. But that gets him into trouble. A few children outside of the hotel like to tease him. Hanji was there to listen to his troubles and secrets. She never uttered anything to his mother. She listened to his dreams and hopes that he could achieve them.

I need to ask myself again: "Was it wrong to deny Petra's requests for children?"
