Chapter Seventeen: I Have 99 Problems, and Hange and Auruo Are Every One Of Them

A/N: Hello, my lovelies. I am sorry about the delay. I have been extremely busy what with school and all. I am going to try and update every Saturday, but I get distracted with life easily, so be sure to give me a shout out to update whenever Saturday rolls around.

And I know... my chapter titles suck, but at this rate, I just say whatever has been in my head...... whatever, enjoy the chapter!!! Oh, and to make up for all the pain you had to go through in the last chapter, I have added an extra lovely Rivetra moment for you.

As the weeks rolled on, Levi's unhappiness grew. He watched Auruo and Petra and their gross, lovey-dovey, couple attitude for about three weeks now, and he was getting sick and tired of it all. He would sometimes attempt to talk to Petra by herself, but at one point, it became hopeless, considering Auruo practically put a tracking chip on her and showed up at the worst moments.

Not to mention, there was S**tty Glasses to chirp at his ear whenever she felt like it. If it wasn't Auruo showing up whenever Levi and Petra were having a conversation (which was extremely rare), it was Hange, always calling for Levi in the form of either Armin or herself. The worst part was... Levi couldn't even do anything about either of the two. Should he shout at Auruo or whatever, he would lose Petra's respect. And shout he shout at Hange, he would lose his place in the Survey Corps and his dignity.

However, one day, he was just sitting there drinking tea when the first good thing happened to him in almost three weeks. He had been in the meeting room, which also sub-served as a recreation room for the weary Survey Corps soldiers. Levi's eyes were closed, his hair a tad bedraggled (but no one noticed), and the herbal tea ran down his throat as he took small sips in order to keep his nerves calm. But that was when the extra cheery Auruo came in with Eren, Gunther and Eld, bragging about his date.

Now I know what you're thinking. How on Earth is that good news? Auruo stole Petra away from Levi!! Well, Levi didn't exactly think it that way. He just said that Auruo... got to her before he did. Why? Because he was that kind of guy.

"And then we went to the wrestling match that was happening in the Fox's Den (a local bar I made up) at the end, and I could just tell she was having a blast," Auruo bragged, but the next sentence really got to Levi's nerves, because then, Auruo tried to imitate him, "But then, I don't need to anything, and I can impress anyone."

"I'm right here, Auruo," Levi said in his usual demeanor.

Finally, Auruo shut up.

Where's the good news? It's coming in five, four, three, two.....

Petra then walked into the room at that moment, rubbing her head softly, as if someone gave her a whack on the skull.

"Oh, hey hon," Auruo said in his Levi-imitating voice.

God damn it!!

Petra then turned to Auruo and smiled, but with a slight.... how should I say this... pained expression mixed into it. Though Auruo seemed to blind to notice it, everyone else with common sense could obviously see it.

"Hi, Auruo," Petra replied, still rubbing her head.

"I was just telling everyone about our amazing date," Auruo said, smiling with satisfaction, even though Petra looked she took a hammer to the head.

"That's... nice," Petra replied, grimacing while she was at it.

"Well, I got to go. Duty for someone like me always calls," Auruo said.

Since when did you become captain of the Survey Corps?

Auruo then strutted out of the room with a sickeningly superior manner, but before he left, he turned and told Petra, "Glad you liked the date," which lead Petra to smile her half-nice, half-dying-inside smile.

It was the second Auruo left the room when Eren was all like, "You hated the date, didn't you, Petra-san?"

"Thank you for noticing," Petra said in a sad tone.

"No, no, we all noticed," Levi said, "Auruo is the only blind one."

"What all went wrong?" Eld asked.

"He just keeps doing everything he wants without consulting me first," Petra replied, "This has been my third migraine thanks to that stupid wrestling match he always takes me to."

"Why don't you just talk to him?" Gunther asked.

"I don't want to hurt his feelings," Petra replied, "Plus, he says that one of the main reasons he likes me is because I just sit down and keep quiet when expected to, and that he'll break up with me if I do otherwise."

"WHAT!!??" Eren burst, causing Levi to spill his tea, but for once, he didn't care.

"Yeah," Petra replied, Eren's sudden outburst not bothering as much as the others.

"Now that's just horrible!!" Eld seethed, upset how Auruo was mistreating his dear friend.

"You said it," Gunther replied, also visibly angry.

"He only said it when he was drunk," Petra argued back meekly, "And we are probably going to have to play 'happy couple' when we are having lunch with the Queen."

Levi almost forgot about the lunch Queen Historia invited the Levi Squad to. They mainly wanted to discuss battle strategies should Marley wish to engage in a battle sometime in the future, but Historia also wished to catch up with her friends.

"Regardless, that's just horrible and you shouldn't continue this relationship if that's the case. What if he starts hitting you or something?" Eren seethed.

"I-I-"

"Just do what is right for you," Levi replied, standing up to clean the spilled tea before it got all sticky, "Sometimes, it's necessary."

Every head in the room turned to face the captain, who had just gotten up to clean the table, which was starting to get almost sticky.

"Heichou..." Petra called, but he was already gone.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Remember the Paradis Ball a few weeks ago, where the now dying couple (Auruo and Petra) had been dancing to a song Levi played on the piano with his mother before her death? Well, that was a tad important in the story. Why? Because that would lead to one Levi and Petra's fondest memories.

Levi Ackerman may have lived in a branch of hell that was the Underground District of Wall Sina, but thanks to his mother, who would thank him should she have lived, he was able to make somewhat of a heaven out of it.

Every day when Kuchel Ackerman came home to her beloved son, her one pride and joy, she would teach him something that would be one of the lasting memories of her to her son. She would sit him down and teach him piano, first warming up with the keys, then practicing their pieces. Kuchel would always tell Levi that one day, he would escape the Underground District (slash Hell) and would grow to a great man.

"Will I become a famous piano player, Mommy?" Little Levi always asked.

Kuchel chuckled and said, "Yes, perhaps, or you could be a soldier or whatever you want to be."

"And will you be able to come with me, Mommy? We can be a famous piano duet!" This was when Kuchel always smiled at her son, but stared at him with sad eyes. She would stroke his hair and say,

"I don't know, baby."

Levi attempted to hold onto these oncoming memories as he stared at the Grand Piano in the empty room. He couldn't recall who gave it to the Survey Corps and why, but he didn't care. He eyed the piano almost everyday, but never playing it, as it always reminded him of his mother. But then he realized that his mother wouldn't want to dismiss something that was the heaven in their hell. So he decided that today, he would probably play a few keys to freshen up.

He brushed his fingers against the magnificent work of art, stroking every key until he reached the last one on the very far end. His hand remained on the piano until he sat down, upon which he began to rub his fingers until they felt like they were on fire. It wasn't long before he was re-enacting the warm-up that he and his mother would always start with. Levi remembered every key precisely. Soon, he was playing a full melody (A/N: I don't know which song he should be playing, so why don't you make it up?). Best of all, he was all alone, no one to see him like this. Or so he thought.

Somewhere in the SC base a 10 minutes prior before the piano piece resonated through the walls, a certain, petite, orange-haired, amber-eyed young woman was finishing up her cleaning duties when she heard one of the most beautiful songs ever to reach her ears. She attempted to continue with her cleaning, but couldn't bring herself to continue. She didn't know why, but she felt the urge to find whoever was playing this lovely song, so Petra Ral put down her broom and searched through the castle to find this mysterious piano player.

She remembered where the new Grand Piano had been placed, and followed the melody there, where she was a tad surprised, but practically... delighted to find that Levi Heichou had been the mystery piano player. Petra started off in the shadows, watching Levi play his piece from a distance, but for some reason she couldn't comprehend until many years later, she brought herself closer until she was standing in the light that shone in the dark room. Fortunately, she could listen to the song better, and see him better. Unfortunately, he could also see her now.

Levi turned his head only to find a certain someone in the light, which started him greatly, leading him to play the wrong key and stand in a hurry, knocking the piano bench over. He brought the bench back to its' original position. He attempted to bring himself back to his original demeanor, but almost couldn't.

"Um, Petra, good to see you," Levi said, brushing off the bench.

Petra had a genuine smile (nothing like this morning's) across her face, her eyes once again true and sweet.

"You play beautifully," Petra said kindly, forgetting that she was supposed to great Levi in a formal manner.

"Not that well," Levi replied, "I haven't played in a long time before now."

"Was that before you became a soldier?" Petra asked, walking closer to him.

"Long before," Levi was praying a blush wasn't on his cheeks.

Petra was now inches away from him, also resting her hand on the piano.

"Your playing reminded me of when my mother taught me," Petra said, "if you don't mind me saying that."

"Of course not," Levi replied, sitting back down, Petra sitting next to him, "My mother taught me as well... before she died."

"That's awful," Petra said, her eyes showing pure sadness.

She must be reminded of her own mother, Levi thought to himself as he stared at the petite girl next to him, remembering the night he visited Mr. Ral. He stared at the woman next to him, who was stroking the fingers diligently and with care, as if they could break if she was too hard on them. He stared at the small woman, at how her orange hair framed her face. How he dreamed of running his hands through her hair.

Levi, what are you doing!!?? Levi immediately stopped staring. She's already taken by Auruo, and I am her superior officer. Such thoughts are inappropriate!

But how could he help himself? Especially with what happened next?

That was when Petra started playing the piano slowly, but got faster over time. It was a melody that was sad and quiet.

"Heichou, may I ask something?" Petra asked as she played each note with care.

"Of course," Levi asked, listening to her melody.

"How did my father react when... you know," Petra said as the notes started getting slower.

Levi stiffened at this memory. The memory of Mr. Ral breaking down in tears, begging to see his daughter's "dead body", but there was no body to look at. He thought he wouldn't be able to bear to speak of that moment ever again, but eventually, he sucked it up, took a deep breath, and told the tale. After revealing the memory, Petra must have been on the verge of crying, because Levi could see her eyes growing wet, and her body shaking.

"I'm sorry. Had I know Erwin would have-"

"No."

"I beg your pardon?"

"I made a choice, Heichou," Petra said still continuing the piano piece, "I did sometimes wish I could go back to Paradis during our mission, but believe me when I say that I chose to do this, I don't regret it."

"I see," Levi said, placing his hand on a key, "Forgive me."

"Why? You did nothing wrong," Petra replied as she finished her piece... only for Levi to continue it.

The two had played corresponding verses for about two minutes before Levi had played another song, his favorite, "Call Your Name", which he and his mother played at the end as their "finale." First, he had begun to play it by himself, but it wasn't long before the piece escalated into a duet, upon which Levi smiled at her, causing shock but allowing herself to smile back.

Eventually, the two stopped, their fingers beginning to ache slightly.

"You were wonderful, Heichou," Petra said, blushing.

"As were you," Levi smiled as he stared at her. Yes, this was one of the rare moments when he smiled, "And it was shocking that you knew that piece."

"I do, it's one of my favorites," Petra replied, "Call Your Name. I just love the aura it gives off, and the story."

"Hmmm?" Levi asked. What story?

"You didn't know the story that went with that song?"

"Mm-mmm."

"Oh, it's just beautiful," Petra said dreamily, "Would you like me to tell you?"

"Yes, please."

"Well, it's basically a man's last letter to his deceased lover. He was going to propose to her, but tragedy struck, and she died, and the song is basically is letter to her."

Levi was stunned. Just like me, he thought to himself.

"Wow." Levi said, staring at her.

"I know," Petra said before suddenly turning dark, "I always hum the tune, but Auruo says it too depressing and that I shouldn't."

Oy, there we go again! Why wouldn't Petra just break it off with him?

"Well, I know someone whose only joy would be if you were the one singing that to him," Levi said as they looked each other in the eye.

"Who?" Petra asked, though she knew the answer deep inside as the two leaned closer to one another.

"He's right in front of you," Levi whispered as the two's lips met. At first, the kiss was gentle and soft, but over time, lust grew and took over, and the two deepened the kiss, practically inhaling each other. The kiss continued for five minutes until they broke it off, foreheads touching.

"Heichou," Petra whispered, her heart fluttering.

"Levi. Just Levi," he replied, finally able to say it.

Petra smiled to herself before she said, "Okay, Levi."

The two slowly made space between themselves, but not too much. Petra continued to stare into Levi's navy-blue eyes, but it wasn't long before she gasped in horror, causing Levi to turn his head. Well, la dee da, because standing there in the doorway, gaping at the two in shock, was none other than Commander Hange.

"C-C-Commander!" Petra stuttered before throwing herself upwards and standing perfectly straight, saluting her.

"You two," Hange said, her voice as blank as Levi ever heard, "I ca-"

"I can't believe you two," said another voice, only for the Auruo Bozad to step into the doorway watching them.

Petra felt tears fall down her face while Levi's eyes were wide as dinner plates. He was expecting a big speech on how Petra cheated on Auruo, and how unacceptable there was, only for Auruo to smile a little.

"Pet, why are you crying? That duet was amazing!"

He hadn't seen the kiss. Levi sighed in relief as Petra stopped crying. Auruo hadn't seen anything. Unfortunately, Hange saw everything.

"Uh, uh, uh yes!! That duet was amazing!!" Hange said, pushing Auruo to the piano, "Petra, why don't you teach Auruo while you and I work on some vocal notes, Levi. Okay? Okay."

After Hange practically kicked Auruo next to Petra and sat them down, she yanked Levi over to her before shouting in his face.

"Why don't we start with this one?" Hang said before singing in the could-care-less Levi's face, "No no no no no no no no no (A/N: Imagine it as the "Mi mi" scale or whatever it's called). NO!!!!"

You guessed it. She shouted the last "No" in his face before dragging Levi away. He turned back to see Petra, who stared back at them, both of them communicating with their eyes.

Don't go.

I'm sorry.

Hange dragged Levi into the mess hall, where every single one of the Survey Corps member from the 104th Training Corps were eating lunch.  She screamed into the room, causing almost everyone to drop their plates or spit out their food.

"WHERE'S YEAGER!!!???"

Author's Note:

Phew!!! I know today isn't Saturday, but I decided to update early because of all of the delays. Why do you think Hange is calling for Eren? Find out in the next chapter, which hopefully will be out by Saturday.

Stay weird, and Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin is owned by Hajime Isayama.
