Chapter Four: The Truth Behind Their Fates

Author's Note: Wow!! Even I can't believe that I actually updated "Shock" one day later. Enjoy!!

Levi's fire of curiosity had become such a wildfire that if it were real, it would have burned the entire Survey Corps base down. He had spent time planning it all out, and he knew that eventually, Hange would reveal her learnings to one of her most trusted soldiers, who would be guarding her inside, and when she did, she would reveal everything, because at those moments, Levi would be standing outside the door, listening to everything. After he planned everything out, he walked quietly, so quiet that it almost sounded like nothing, into the hallway and stood outside her office, waiting for the moment. He could hear voices, but they were as clear as crystal. Even though Hange was now commander, she did make mistakes, like not fully closing the door whenever she needed privacy. Levi noticed the gap between the door and the doorway, and though it wasn't too big, it was good enough for the sound waves to travel clearly out into the hall.

Perfect. Levi thought to himself as he leaned close to the gap, now hearing the voices of Commander Hange Zoe and the soldier, who just so happened to be Armin Arlert. Ever since he earned the ability to become a Titan Shifter four years ago in the expedition to Shiganshina, Armin was one of Hange's favorites, of course.

Levi heard Armin and Hange discuss the documents and the possible levels of importance the information within could have, but Levi's ears perked right up at the words she said after that conversation.

"Arlert, there is a document Commander Erwin wrote about the original Special Operations Squad that Levi used to command before each members' deaths at the 57th Expedition," Hange said.

"I remember, Hange-san. That was the expedition where-"

"Annie Leonhart made her appearance as the Female Titan and caused a high number in casualties. Among those casualties were the deaths of Eld Gin, Gunther Schultz, Auruo Bozad, (A/N: I am going to spell it like that now), and Petra Ral."

Levi could feel a pang of pain in his heart upon hearing Hange mention Petra's death.

"I remember, Commander."

"Honestly, Armin" Hange said in sugar-coated voice that was always saved for her little Titan Shifters, "You can call me Hange-san or whatever. The only time you ought to be all formal is when we have important events. Otherwise, I'm just Hange-san to you."

"Yes, Hange-san. Either way, what about the original Squad Levi?" Armin asked, referring to the Special Operations Squad by their nickname.

"Let's start things from the beginning. Among these documents I received, this was the first one the soldier gave me, so naturally, I read it first," Hange revealed.

Levi could feel his muscles tensing and his rage boiling up in his blood. So Sh*tty Glasses lied to him, eh? She said that she was going to read that document, but she lied!! She already did!! But he was able to keep the rage down in order to listen to the conversation.

"I found out some information that Commander Erwin decided to keep secret, and took that secret was taken with him to his grave," Hange said, her voice a bit more serious now.

Levi could see Armin flinch just a bit. Everyone knew that Armin always felt... uncomfortable whenever there was a mention of the former Commander's death, as it always reminded him that they chose him, Armin, a useless nobody (in his own mind, for nobody else thought that) over the Commander of the Survey Corps to have the Titan serum injected in him and survive.

"And what was that information, Hange-san?" Armin asked, starting to feel more comfortable.

"Listen to this," Hange said before picking up the document.

Damn it, Four-Eyes!!! Levi honestly wished that she would stop stalling and get to the point. He had to find out the information Erwin dared to hide from him about his squad. Information about Petra. Levi's anger was soon calmed, and his ears perked up even greater, for Hange began to read the document.

"It's been many months since the failed 57th Expedition outside the walls, and yet I still wonder to this day about what had happened to them. What had happened to the Special Operations Squad."

What does he mean "what happened to them?" They died. Levi thought to himself.

"Had they died? Or are they still completing the mission?"

What was Erwin talking about? Levi was seriously getting annoyed with all this beating around the bush. However, they would soon get to the core of the point, as Hange continued to read.

"I want to talk to someone, anyone, about it, but I know that it shall not be possible, but this secret could possibly turn me into the villain in everyone's minds. The only solace I can confide in is this paper in my hand and this pen. I can only reveal everything to these objects, which don't eat, sleep, or even breathe.

I cannot even remember when I found out the truth, but I remember it haunting my soul forever. What is the truth? Outside the walls, humanity has not perished, for they have thrived instead. We, whom we thought were the last remains of humanity, are nothing more than simply people, as there is actually a world filled with civilization outside the walls. This civilization, known as Marley, have been sicking our civilization with the curse of Titans for many years for reasons I cannot explain, for they remain unknown to me. I am not sure how Marley does it, but it turns their own humans into Titans and unleash them upon the island of our walls to kills us all. This very civilization is what the traitorous Titan Shifters, Reiner Braun (The Armored Titan), Bertolt Hoover (The Colossal Titan), and Annie Leonhart (The Female Titan) had served. I knew this wasn't the entire truth, and I hungered for more information.

The night before the 57th Expedition, I had told the truth to four of our long-time and most trusted soldiers, who happened to be the people of Levi's squad. I told them to the truth, which they had taken to the highest amount of shock I've seen, before telling them their mission. I told Squad Levi to leave the walls and the squads behind and fake their own deaths in order to sneak into Marley and find information. However, the catch was that they couldn't return to the walls. It took some convincing, but they eventually agreed to the mission. In case they would be injured, I injected them with a serum that would automatically heal their bodies and regenerate lost limbs, like a Titan, if you choose to see it that way.

During the expedition, I was told that all of Squad Levi had died, but I knew it wasn't true. They were alive, and they were gone from their natural homes, but they were alive.

It still haunts me to this day, as I always wonder what they've learned and if they are still well and alive."

"He knew!?" Armin nearly shouted, "He knew this whole time about Marley!?"

"And it's not just that. He injected Squad Levi with some regeneration serum so that they could survive anything that came at them," Hange said.

"That means-"

"Yes. Auruo Bozad, Eld Gin, Gunther Schultz, and Petra Ral. They could all still be alive out there in Marley. Somewhere," Hange said.

Hange was going to say more, but Levi couldn't stand around here any longer. He learned all that he needed to know, and yet, it was more than he could have asked for. The Female Titan didn't kill them that day. It just looked liked it. They survived. She survived.

As Levi walked to his bedroom that night, thoughts had flooded his mind. He hadn't lost her. He had one more chance. But Levi had to find Petra. He had to find his love. He had to find her and bring her home. He had to. And he will!!!!

That night, Levi dreamed that he was in a field with all kinds of flowers and the sun was shining. He soon saw a figure in the distance. She was a petite, young, and beautiful woman with hair the color of ginger and eyes the color of sappy-amber. Petra. She ran to Levi, who wrapped his arms around her and held her to his chest.

"Heichou,"

"Yes,"

"I love you,"

How he wished to hear those words. Now he must tell her how he felt. Tell her the feelings that he had bottled up for a long time.

"Petra, I-"

"LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He awoke from that beautiful dream when a certain, chirpy, and hellishly-annoying voice yelled in his ear.

Damn it, Four-Eyes!!!
