Chapter 30
____________Levi's POV____________
I sat in the chair, eight hours have passed since (F/N) was admitted to the infirmary.
My patience and hope both wearing thin.
Then, I heard it.
The small click of the door opening.
I shoot up, and am immediately in front of the nurse.
"Well?" I asked.
The nurse gave a soft smile, as she says, "She'll be fine. She's lucky that the blade missed her spine. Just a little more over to the left, and she wouldn't have survived the procedure."
I let go of a huge sigh of relief.
"Can I go inside?" I asked.
"Yeah, go ahead, but she's sleeping at the moment." The nurse said, I only nod my head, as I walk in, but before I disappear inside the room, I stop and turn my head to the side, while saying, "Can you let the others know? They're all in the mess hall."
"Sure thing." She says, smiling, as she walks towards the direction of the mess hall.
I finally walk inside, getting closer and closer to the bed that is by the far wall.
Once there, I stare down on a sleeping (F/N). Her expression calm, as she takes deep, even breaths.
Suddenly, I see small droplets of something land on the covers.
My eyes widen, as I realize that they were my tears.
I let out a scratchy chuckle, as I say, "Dammit brat, making me worry like this. I'm gonna give you cleaning duties for years, once you get better."
I wipe away the tears, but that was when the covers began to move, making my head snap up towards the bed.
I see (F/N) open her eyes halfway, as she lazily turns her head towards me.
"Aniki?" She questions, her voice quiet, still half asleep.
I went to open my mouth to correct her, but soon snap it shut when she begins to talk again.
"You know aniki, although I am weak and full of flaws, I will never stop moving forward. No matter who I am, no one other than myself will create my own existence. No matter what others may think or feel, I will still move forward as myself. Yet, right now, I am stuck. I'm having trouble moving forward. Because, I just realized something. We all have light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on.....that's who we really are. But, what about me? I just attacked the people I wanted to protect. I hurt them." As she says this, tears stream down the sides of her face.
"Tch, it wasn't your fault, you had no control over your actions." I hiss.
"But, if I was a little stronger, then you or anyone else wouldn't have been hurt." She cries out.
"Tch, everyone has a weakness. It wasn't your fault that you weren't strong enough, I'm sure anyone would've been in the same situation as you." I say.
"But, aniki, I hurt the one person I didn't want to. I hurt him. I'm so selfish, because of my selfishness of sacrificing myself, he probably hates me for not keeping my promise." She says, as she lets a sob escape her lips.
"Who would that be?" I asked, my heart pounding in my chest.
"I read something, and I think it fits perfectly for what I'm about to say, aniki." She says, her eyes beginning to close, as she continues.
"Things that fall: petals, teardrops, snowflakes, rain, stars, eyelids, time, shadows, leaves, the sun, and I, for Levi. I don't remember how or why I fell for him, but all I know is that, when I first met him I cried, not because I was afraid of him. But, because, I felt relieved. When I saw his eyes, they held no fear, they didn't show disgust or hatred. They were like yours, aniki, when I had first met you."
She closes her eyes, falling back into a deep sleep.
My eyes widen, as I process the words that she just said.
I click my tounge, as I mutter, "You should stop assuming things brat, and your not selfish, your too fucking selfless. That's your problem, and yet, I can't help but return those damn feelings."
I hear the sound of multiple feet running down the halls, as I turn in time to see everyone in front of the door.
"Tch, she's fine, just sleeping. Now, you should go, before you damn brats wake her up." I hiss, as I pass them.
I see Nassir near the back of the group. I pass him, giving him a small pat on his shoulder, as I continue to walk towards my office.
----------------Time Skip------------------
It's been three days, since the surgery was over with.
The good news is that (F/N) lived through it, the bad news, is that not even a day later, she caught a bad fever.
I sit beside her infirmary bed, as she tries to take in air, but only manages quick, short breaths, as her flushed cheeks are covered in sweat.
I press my hand against her forehead.
"Shit, its gotten worse." I say, as I grab the washcloth, and dip it in the bowl of water, before wringing it out, and placing it back on her forehead.
I hear the door open. I turn, and I see Hanji walk in.
"Tch, why isn't her damn fever going down?" I asked.
"I don't know, that's why I came to give you this." She says, as she hands me a small pouch.
"What is it?" I ask.
"It's medicine, very strong. But, the problem is that she can't eat or drink anything without it coming back up." Hanji explains.
"Tch, you can go. I'll figure something out." I hiss, as I turn my attention back to (F/N).
I hear Hanji chuckle, as she says, "You haven't left her side, since the moment she got sick."
"Tch, and?" I question harshly.
"Oh nothing~." Hanji sings, as she exits the room.
"Crazy ass woman." I hiss, as she leaves.
I look at the medicine, before saying, "But, she does become useful sometimes."
"Oi brat, you awake?" I ask, and she opens her eyes slightly, as she turns her head towards me, before nodding her head.
'Her fever is so bad, that she can't even speak, let alone swallow food or water.' I think, as I try and devise a plan to try and get (F/N) to take the damn medicine.
Then, an idea comes to mind.
"Tch, its the only way." I say to myself, as I take a small bit of medicine, and placed it in my mouth, before taking a small sip of water.
I lean down, and place my lips over (F/N)'s, she stiffens, as I transfer the medicine over to her.
Shocked by the sudden action, she swallows the medicine, before having a coughing fit.
"Are you okay?" I ask, as she finally stops coughing.
She nods her head, as she flops back down onto the pillow.
I see her get drowsy, as she begins go fall back asleep.
Once she does, I lean down, and place my hand over my face, in hopes of cooling down my heated cheeks.
"Damn brat." I mutter under my breath.
The medicine she took began to work a bit, after a few hours. Her high fever, beginning to cool down, as her violent coughing fits, had begun to quiet down.
Not even three days later, (F/N) was finally able to eat something.
"Here, brat." I say, as I place her breakfast tray by her bed.
"Thanks, Levi." She mutters, looking down.
"Tch, what's wrong." I hiss.
"What are you talking about? I'm fine." She mumbles.
"No. Your not. Now tell me what's wrong?" I ask, but she doesn't reply.
I let out a frustrated sigh, as I grab the nearby chair, and pull it by her bedside.
"Listen, I'm not moving a single damn muscle, until you tell me what's wrong." I hiss.
But, that when something surprising happens.
She had begun to cry.
"I'm sorry!" She sobs, as she haphazardly wipes away her tears.
"For what, brat?" I ask.
"For causing so much trouble. For not keeping my promise. For hurting you, and everyone else. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She sobs out.
I sigh, as I place my hand on top of her head, and began to pet it, as I say, "Tch, its nothing you should be apologizing for, brat. I forgive you, and so does everyone else."
(F/N)'s sobs, began to quiet down to mere hiccups.
"R-Really?" She asks, as she wipes away some stray tears.
"Yeah, I'm more then sure about it." I say, as I continue to pet (F/N)'s hair.
(F/N) leans over, and gives me a short hug, while saying, "Thank you."
"Tch, don't mention it." I say, as I turn my head to the side.
(F/N) lets out a small giggle.
"Tch what's so funny, brat?" I hiss.
"Nothing, its just that, you can be really cute at times." She says, smiling at me.
"Tch, I'm not cute. I'm manly as hell." I say, as I cross my arms, and turn my head to the side.
"Yeah, yeah, sure thing. But, you should probably get back to training everyone." She says.
"But-" before I could say anymore, (F/N) interrupts me.
"I'll be fine, go."
I sigh, as I get up, and left. But, before I left the room, I stop mid-step, before saying, "Get better soon, brat. Everyone is fucking moping around, and its starting to get on my nerves."
She lets out a small laugh, as she says, "Sure thing, Levi."
I continue my way towards the training fields, as a small smile graces my lips.
But, it soon disappears, as I reach the training grounds.
"Oi, get back to work!" I shout at a cadet who seemed to be slacking off.
"Y-Yes sir!" They shout, as they scramble to get back to training.
'I have a feeling today is going to be a long day.' I think, as I continued to observe the training cadets.
