Chapter 29
__________Nassir's POV___________
I walk the underground district, unafraid of anything, always wearing a stoic mask.
People feared me, called me 'The Demon of the Underground.'
I was abandoned here by my own parents, I adapted quickly to my surroundings, killing anyone who posed a threat to me. No one dared to step over their boundaries with me.
----------------Time Skip------------------
"Tch, who are you brat?" I asked the shivering brat, that's been cowering in the corner of the room of an abandoned orphanage that I decided to stay at.
She doesn't reply, just stays in that corner.
"Oi, I asked you a question." I hissed, as I took a step forward, only to stop.
"What the hell?" I asked, as I tried to move, but no matter at how much I struggled, I couldn't move.
I look up, and saw that the brat's eyes were glowing a very bright (E/C), as her hand was outstretched towards me.
"Are you doing this?" I asked monotonously.
She nodded her head, as he eyes returned back to their normal (E/C) color, dropping her hand to her side.
I could move again.
I clicked my tounge, as I asked, "How long have you been here?"
She shrugs her shoulders, the worn down cloth covering her skin easily shows how skinny she really was.
"Tch, wait here brat." I said harshly, as I walked out of the room, then the orphanage.
After about half an hour, I return with a loaf of bread that I stole.
"Here." I say, as I toss the bread to her.
She fumbles clumsily, before she successfully catches the bread.
She looks at it, before looking at me.
"Tch, eat it." I hiss.
Her eyes widen a bit, before she looks towards the bread.
I took a closer step towards her, but she moves away.
I clicked my tounge, before plopping down on the furthest of the dust covered beds, causing me to wince at how filthy it was.
I tuned my back in the brat, I then hear the tearing of the bread in the silent room.
'Finally.' I think, as I still remained in my position.
But, that was when I heard the shuffling of feet on the floor, before it reached behind me.
It stopped when I went to turn halfway, but stopped myself, as I resumed my position.
I then felt something being placed down next to me, before scurried sound of feet moved away from me.
I looked next to me, and saw that it was half of the loaf of bread that I had given her.
I raise an eyebrow, as I turn back towards her.
She was in the same spot, as when I first saw her, crouched down, as she nibbled at the other half.
"Tch, didn't have to give me it." I mumbled.
I saw her flinch a bit. I let out a sigh, as I said, "But, its a nice gesture, brat."
For the next few days, I've been taking care of the girl in the abandoned orphanage. I don't know why, I just felt it as an obligation to. But, it was more than that, for once in my bloody and violent life, I had found something worth protecting. A small, fragile, innocent light, that had given me hope to keep walking forward.
Over the time span of the weeks taking care of her, she was very cautious of me, but after a while, she soon became used to me. Sitting next to me, but never uttering a word.
One day I suddenly asked, "Do you wanna come with me?"
I saw her eyes light up, as she smiled happily.
Nodding her head profusely, as the smile never fades from her face.
"Tch, then lets go." I say, as I get up off the bed.
She immediately follows closely behind me.
For the next few months, I taught her the ways to survive underground, telling her not to use her abilities unless it was necessary.
She adapted quite quickly, always following close behind me, wherever I went, but she never said a single word, not even the time she was kidnapped.
Until, one day, she just suddenly said, "Aniki."
I was startled, looking around to see who the voice belonged to. Only to see that it belonged to none other then the brat herself.
"What did you just say?" I asked.
"Aniki." She says again.
"So, you CAN speak after all." I say, almost in an amused way.
She suddenly looks down, almost in an ashamed manner.
"Tch, I didn't say it was a bad thing." I say, rubbing the top of her head, as I look away.
She looks up, and said, "Aniki."
I let a small, rare smile grace my lips as I say, "Okay, I get it. You can talk."
But, she just shakes her head, as she says, "Aniki, thank you."
"For what?" I ask, confused.
"For everything. For taking me out of the orphanage, for feeding me, for clothing me, for-" before she could continue, I interrupted.
"Okay, enough, I understand. But, its no problem. As long as you stay as your idiotic self, then its worth it."
She lets a goofy grin etch its way onto her face, and she nods her head.
-----------------Time Skip----------------
I stare on in horror as I feel my arm jerk forward, unable to even control my own actions.
"Ani-ki......i-its.....al-right" (F/N) rasped out, as she reaches up to touch my cheek.
"So........do-n't....cry." That was all she said, before collapsing.
I shoot up from my laying position, panting, as sweat trickles down my face.
I look around, and saw that I was in an unfamiliar room.
"Nassir, you okay?" A voice that I would recognize anywhere said.
I look towards the voice, and saw Hanji sitting next to the bed.
"What happened?" I asked.
"You had a major panic attack. You passed out, so I brought you to my room to relax." She explains.
"And (F/N)?" I asked, and I saw sadness flash over her usually cheerful face.
"She's in the middle of surgery right now, so no one knows of her current condition." Hanji explains.
I let out a shaky sigh, as Hanji then says, "But, I bet she'll pull through! She can be a bit stubborn, even if she won't admit it!"
I only nodded my head, as I said, "I hope your right Hanji, really I do."
Hanji smiles, as she leans in, and gives me a gentle hug, that I immediately lean into.
"Thank you, Hanji." I mutter under my breath.
"Yeah, sure thing, big guy." Hanji says, as she starts to pet my hair.
____________Levi's POV____________
Three hours.
Three fucking hours of endless waiting.
I nervously bounce my one leg up and down, and I place my elbows on my knees, interlacing my fingers together, as I continue to stare at the closed door of the infirmary.
"She's gonna be okay, Levi." Erwin says, from beside me.
"I know." Was all I could muster, as my eyes either land on the closed door, or the dry blood on my clothes, and hands.
"Levi, why don't you go get cleaned up, we'll let you know if anything happens." Erwin suggests.
I didn't budge.
I hear him let out a sigh, as he says, "You know Levi, you've changed a bit, since you met her."
I clicked my tounge, not saying anything, as Erwin continues.
"But, that's not a bad thing."
That was the last thing he said, before leaving towards the mess hall, where everyone else is at, waiting for the surgery to be over, and give us the good news we're all waiting for.
