Chapter 10
____________Levi's POV____________
It was about a half an hour before Nassir had returned.
He sat down in a chair, and let out a sigh, before saying in his usual monotonous voice, "So, what do you want to know?"
"Tch, tell us what the hell just happened." I say, irritation lacing me voice.
"Well, for me to explain that, its going to take a while." He says.
"We have time." I hiss.
He sighs, before saying, "(F/N) isn't like most people."
"That's obvious, she has those abilities." Auruo says.
Nassir glares at him, as he says, "I know that, but what I'm saying is that she acts more differently than most people her age."
"What do you mean?" Petra asks.
"Do you know how old she is?" He suddenly asks.
No one said anything, so he continues, "She's 26 years old."
I saw that everyone looks shocked.
"What!? But she-" before Eld could continue, Nassir interrupts him.
"Acts like a kid, I know."
"What does this have to do with anything?" I ask monotonously.
"Everything. Do you know why she acts like that?" He asks, and again, no one said anything.
"It's because in order for kids to learn and grow, they must encounter other people." He explains.
"Are you saying that (F/N) never encountered other kids?" Eren asks, and Nassir nods his head.
"You see, we aren't originally from above ground. We came from the underground district." He explains.
As soon as he said 'underground district', my attention was all on him.
"(F/N), however, was given away to an orphanage that was in the underground district. She was only five then. She tried to interact with the kids, but by what she told me, they never accepted her, because of her abilities, and because of this, most were afraid of her. Even if she never said anything, or just sat in a corner, they were fearful of her. So, one day, when she was only six, they all left. The orphanage director, along with all the children packed up and left. They left, while (F/N) was asleep. Now, I want you to think about just waking up one day, and find that no one was there, and only at the age of six. She couldn't do anything at that age, so, she waited."
"How long did she wait for?" Eren asks.
He looks at him for a moment, before saying, "14 years."
When he said this, I felt my eyes widen in surprise, before returning to their original size.
"14 years! Why didn't she try to go out on her own to find someone?" Eld asks.
"Being only six, she kept that mindset, that if she were to wait, someone would eventually come and get her."
"What I want to know, is how she managed to survive in that building, alone, for 14 years." Gunther states.
"Even (F/N) doesn't know that, but I can tell you this. When I found her, she was in a room, cowering in the corner. She was nothing, but skin and bones. She was so cautious of me at first. She even used her abilities, to keep me at bay. I had to leave the first day, and it took me three days of visiting, for her to finally allow me to come even remotely close to her. It took her even longer for her to actually speak to me." Nassir says.
"How long did it take?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"About 1 or 2 years." He states bluntly.
"So, she was around 22 years old, when she started to fully talk to you." Eld said, causing Nassir to nod.
"Ever since I found her, and took her out of that deserted place. She's been afraid of being in dark rooms, alone." Nassir states.
"But, what I'm curious about, is why didn't (F/N) use her abilities to unlock the door?" Eren asks.
"Because, when someone is in a state of absolute panic, they can't think straight. Her fear of being in a dark room, alone, is similar to someone being devoured by a titan." Nassir states darkly.
"Is that all?" I ask, and Nassir nods his head.
"Everyone go back to bed, we have training in the morning." I say, and everyone gets up, and began to walk out of the mess hall.
I saw Nassir begin to leave, but I stop him.
"Why do you protect that girl so much?" I ask.
He looks at me, before saying, "I guess because she was the only one who accepted me. I was a brutal thug, I killed people who got in my way, and yet, this small, frail girl, she didn't flinch away from me, and she put all of her trust in me, and so, I intend to keep that trust, and live up to my name." Nassir says, causing me to raise an eyebrow, as I ask, "What does your name mean?"
"Protector, and I intent to keep that girl safe, even if it means getting my hands dirty. She is like a sister to me after all, we only had each other for the past 6 years." He says, before heading off to his bed.
I simply stood there, letting his words sink in, before walking away towards my office/bedroom.
But, before I entered my office, I turned around, and went towards (F/N)'s room.
I knocked on the door, but no one answered.
I quietly open the door, and saw (F/N) sleeping peacefully on her bed.
She was laying on her back, so that her (H/L) (H/C) hair fanned out beneath her head.
One of her hands were on her stomach, while the other rests by her side.
I stare at her hands, which were wrapped heavily in bandages.
'She had such a hard life, and yet....she can still smile as if nothing ever happen. She works with such determination that could rival the best of soldiers, and yet, she fears being alone more than dieing by a titan's hand. She is one of a kind.' I think before turning around, and leaving, quietly closing the door in the process, before heading towards my room, and falling into a dreamless sleep.
