Awkwardness and Irritation
Dillan's POV
With a confused gaze, I watch as Kane's whole body stiffens at the lady on the other side of the door. The one he claims is his sister.
"Ashley, what are you doing here?" He asks her and he sounds tired, as if he already knows the reason and is just over it. His sister pokes her hip out to the side and her perfectly manicured hand comes to rest in it.
"You've been ignoring our calls, Kane. So here I am." She says and her voice is grating nails against my ears. I don't know what it is, but zo don't like this girl. I've always been a good judge of character and this one is giving me the feeling that I'll feel the need to cut her hair off and punch her in her surgical nose.
"Ignoring calls usually mean that I don't want to be bothered, Ashley. Come back some other time." He tells her and he attempts to close the door in her fece but she catches it with a frown.
"You've never been this rude." She says and she moves her gaze from her brother to me before a smirk comes over her face and she scoffs. I watch with an unimpressed face as she pushes Kane aside and walks into the house to where I'm leaning against the wall. "Oh hello. I didn't know he had company."
"You didn't ask." I tell her and she starts a little before looking at me a little harder. I've seen her type before. The ones with money who think they're better than everyone. The ones that are shallow and manipulative and rude and nasty. And if Kane didn't want her around, then it's clear that he knows exactly what she is too: a snake.
"You didn't tell me you had a boyfriend, Kane." She says and the way she says it is as if, the very idea that I could possibly be his boyfriend is absurd and disgusting.
I think this bitch fails to realize is that I lost the importance in my life a few years back, I have nothing to lose if I pull the extensions out of her hair.
I can feel Kane's panic and it annoys me to know that this little girl did so much shit to this man, that he's nervous around her.
"He didn't find the importance in telling someone you know... like you." I tell her, letting a polite smile fall on to my features. Her eye brows raise in surprise and annoyance that doesn't phase me in the slightest.
"So you're a secret." She says and she smiles bigger as if she's won the battle but she obviously doesn't know who I am.
"Rightfully so. You're not supposed to go flashing your pride possession around a bunch of peasants and low lives now would you?" I ask her as if completo appalled by the idea. She glares at me and goes to say something but she takes a breath and smiles at me politely.
Shame. I love seeing people break character.
"I'm Ashley, Kane's little sister. And you are?" She asks and I can tell that she's fishing for information that she won't get.
"Dillan." I tell her and I can tell she's waiting for more but I don't budge as she stiffly nods her head.
"I've never met someone like you Dillan. Kane doesn't have that many friends or connections so I didn't think twice about popping up." She tells me but the look in her eyes tells me that she didn't give two shits who is here or not, she would show up regardless. Which means she has no regard for Kane or his boundaries.
Ahhh yes, the joy of family.
Something I haven't missed along with him.
"Ashely..." Kane starts, his body language clear in unease.
His sister turns around towards him and shrugs her shoulders as if she's doing nothing wrong. "I'm just saying the truth, Kane. He should know it if he's going to be around."
"If you've never met anyone like me, count it as a blessing for yourself. People like me don't do well with people like you. And you never know when we might have company or where he might be, so call before a visit, yeah?" I say as I begin to usher her towards the door, walking right in front of her so that she has no choice but to step back.
She frowns and opens her mouth in protest, trying to say something against me, but I don't leave room as I casually chat with her while walking her the few feet back to ares the door.
Once I get there, I open the front door and lean against it with a smile. "It was absolutely lovely to see you, but the two of us have some things to attend to. Thanks for stopping by. Let's not do this again, yeah?" I talk to her, using the voice I had to teach myself when dealing with his family. I keep a sweet sickly smile on my lips and wave her along with my hand until she's standing halfway out the door.
"I need to talk to Kane." She tries to say and I nod my head in confirmation before starting to close the door on her making her step back.
"I know honey but he's busy. Maybe another time. Bye now!" I say before the door finally gets closed against the tanned fake face. When I turn around, I find Kane standing there with a weird expression on his face. "I'm sorry. She was bitching and it's too early to hear her mouth."
My apology isn't that apologetic and it makes him laugh before shaking his head.
"No one ever puts her in her place anymore." He tells me and I shrug, no big deal to me.
"Well, there's always first times for everything."
