EMILY

It was a  nice day with clear blue skies. I thought of calling Emma to ask how she was and the children that reside in the Orphanage. I'm excited to meet them again this weekend for some monthly check up routine, pledging as their doctor. 

My deep thoughts were cut short with the usual emergency we have at the hospital. Something that happens everyday.

“Dra. Dyers! We require your assistance for this emergency! Er… We can't describe what the emergency was about but his companion is in panic!”

“Please lead the way” I replied calmly

As I paved my way out to the Emergency Room. What dawned my eyes is the familiar blonde man with a tall and slim physique. It was Viktor. 

I was stoned in my position looking at the state he was in. His eyes are blank and lifeless. I knew exactly what it was, something might have triggered that and opened the deepest roots of his fear. Something he hid deep within himself and that thread must have snapped.

He might have encountered one of them.

I  have the same experience, Emma and I have encountered back then

“Emily! Father! I will be the representative to meet the priest at the Red Church!” Emma exclaimed happily,“Would you like to come, Emily?"

I was still busy preparing for my upcoming test to be a licensed neurologist and psychologist but if it was Emma asking me, I immediately set these activities aside, “Alright then.”

“I think you're busy.. I'm not… disrupting your study am I?” That puppy eyes Emma is giving, can be dangerously cute. Who would reject her, right?

“I swear you aren't and expect me to ace this test, Emma” I smiled to reassure her everything would be fine.

“Teehee~ I know you're a genius bean and will ace that test!”
With our laughter filling the air, we went out on our merry way to the Red Church and we happened to meet Ms. Anna, Dr. Burke's assistant, she is now serving as a nun with her new bestowed name, Sister Ann. 

The priest saw the horror in our eyes and clasped our hands to snap out of it. He let us inside the cumbent and explained the things we never knew that the priest would know since the information about that tragic crime is highly confidential.

“Children, please do not think of Sister Ann as the same person as she was when she was with that Mad man. She was used, drugged and controlled like a puppet. She just got out of the rehabilitation. I let her be in the care of the church.” The priest told us and flash a weak smile. 

“Your father, Leo, explained to me what you two have experienced. I admire your resilience. Emily, as a matter of fact instead of being afraid of the Doctors, you're being one yourself and at a very young age and Emma, you didn't leave the facility that brought you those harsh memories but instead you bring it to life with all the flowers you planted around it and made it a real sanctuary for children in need. I'm proud of you both. It has been six year since that incident”

Without the  two of us realizing it, Emma's hand and mine were intertwined, were both crying from what the priest told us. We both looked at each other and nodded. Those string of words freed our hearts that have been shackled by our dark past. The fear and pain were encrypted in our hearts. There's no doubt about that, but in our hearts that eased the grudge we carried throughout the years, those words had lifted our burdens.

“Father. If I may, can I ask for your name?: Emma asked while wiping her tear streaked face. 

“Ah. My bad for not introducing myself early, I'm Father Orpheus. The new head of the Red Church.” a man in his 30s smiled at us sweetly.

“We visited the Red Church to see the possible location we could choose to exchange our vows and Viktor suddenly blank out upon seeing the tall nun… Ms. Anna, as I recall what Viktor called her” Norton told me with a downcasted eyes upon asking him what happened that could have triggered this situation. 

While the nurses were still busy assisting Viktor inside, I asked Norton to go outside the room. I sensed his nervousness and panic. He really loves our dear Viktor. 

“Ms. Anna or Sister Ann now is Dr. Burke's assistant during those experimental procedures they are doing with the children and as you probably know, Viktor had those procedures worse than any of the children in the orphanage, Dr. Burke's suddenly became obsessed with 'healing’ him.”

Norton was petrified. Viktor might not have told Norton that he got the worst treatment out of all of us back in the orphanage. I saw how Norton's face screamed in pain. I knew he was blaming himself.

“You shouldn't blame yourself. You did well helping Viktor be cured from his progressive mutism. We'll see from the findings how he will be?”

NORTON

That visit from the Red Church was quite surprising. I didn’t expect Viktor to blank out like that. I even kept on calling out his name and he just stood there, staring off in the distance, he didn’t collapse but he looked… empty. The nun in the church got so worried and told me to take Viktor to the hospital immediately, she seemed familiar with Viktor though. It was peculiar but I swayed those thoughts away and drove off to the hospital. Luckily Emily, Viktor’s friend was on duty, I asked her for help regarding Viktor’s condition.

I explained to Emily what happened earlier and I was right about my hunch. The nun has something to do with it.. And knowing from Emily that Viktor had it worse being on that facility for two years makes my heart break. He didn't elaborately tell me those. I feel useless as a husband. 

Emily saw my distressed and  reassured me that he was going to be okay and just needed a little rest. I couldn’t stay calm though because for the past few hours he’s not doing anything and not even talking or looking at us, Until he fell asleep. I stayed with him in a private room, Emily prepared for us.

I looked at Viktor once again, he looked so much in pain. I remembered seeing his mournful sleeping face back when we first met in my house. He even cried too, like what he was doing now, I sighed exasperatedly. I guess trauma won't just go away easily. I thought he was okay now. He was already talking and mingling with others happily but I was wrong. I just hope what Emily said was true, that you will be okay my dear husband. I held Viktor’s hand tightly in mine, giving him a soft kiss on his palm, his forehead, his cheeks and his lips

“Please be okay, My Viktor…” 

After several hours, Viktor finally woke up and to our surprise... He lost his voice again and this time it has gotten worse. It is not the voice now but the inability to produce speech. He has what Emily called "Acquired Aphraxia"

It was some sort of neuro damage that was triggered due to sudden events that let your brain go sudden overdrive. A brain trauma. 

I'm naive to think that his progressive mutism was cured. We both didn’t expect that it would get more severe. The doctor told us about his condition thoroughly. This condition lets the voluntary movement of the mouth can't be commanded by the brain. Viktor could not make himself speak. 

“There's still a way to cure him.” The doctor smiled at us

“T-there is? Please, I’ll do anything to get Viktor his voice back.” I begged her, I was getting a little desperate with my plea but the doctor just gave us a gentle smile in return

“It’ll take some time through therapy to regain his normal state.” The doctor explained,“It is a way to build back the neurons in the cerebral location where motor movement for speech formulation is located.” 

“Therapy. We… We can at least try and do that. Thank you so much.”At least he gave Viktor and I hope with that option, a little hope to cling on. 

Dra. Emily explained thoroughly that with therapy, Viktor could speak spontaneously again. Speech therapy could help to get those vowels right and frequent CT scan of the region of the brain that focuses on the speech would be monitored to assess how the treatment will move. 

"I'm glad I did specialize in neurology and psychology. I never knew that it would come in handy. I just did this.. To help with people that suffered a great deal of stress and trauma that made their mental state distressed. Some things I did out of what I felt I needed to do back then when we were still at the orphanage." Dra. Emily smiled weakly towards me and Viktor.

I can see Viktor’s eyes cast down from the news, I held his hand tightly and he held mine weakly. The doctor felt our distress 

We drove off back home. It was dead silence, I looked at Viktor whose eyes are locked on his window pane.

“Viktor” I broke the ice by calling out his name, my eyes are still fixated on the road,“No matter what happens, I will always love you. With or without voice, I’ll stay with you… always. That’s how much I love you and that’s how much you mean to me, You mean the world to me, Viktor. Don’t lose hope, I will always be here, holding your hand and lifting you up to your darkest days. In sickness and in health right? We’ll soon exchange those vows.”

From my peripheral view, I saw Viktor turning to me and gently reached for my hand. I pull over the car to the side and stare back at him, he smiled at me 

"T--k.."He winced. It hurts me to see his pained expression but still he mouthed...

Thank you, I love you so much, Norton.

No words came out from his mouth but it pierced through my heart. My tears trickling down my cheeks, I love his voice so much and even without it, for some reason I can hear and feel it touching my soul.

“I love you so much too, Viktor. We don’t need a voice to say what we feel. As long as we’re together, It doesn’t matter. Just you and me.”

I saw Viktor’s eyes welled up in tears, I lean in giving him a kiss and wiped his tears away. I will always love this person in front of me, I will never ever leave him for anything. I thought to myself as we share one passionate kiss that night before we go home

Days and weeks have passed. I often assist Viktor visiting Emily for his therapy. I'm glad that his state is improving gradually. He slowly regains his voice through practicing his vocal muscles and undergoing  therapy. I’m glad it’s working.

Viktor and I decided to take Sign Language classes to communicate with each other. It was very fun and it was very cute how Viktor enjoyed learning from the people in our class. I’m also learning too. Now, we use it to communicate with each other non-verbally but Viktor is quite fond of his pad so he sticks with it most of the time, he just uses Sign Language for emergencies whenever he doesn’t have anything to communicate with.

Fiona helped Viktor with his studies too. Apparently the reason why she’s knowledgeable about sign language is because her mother was deaf and her father was mute. She loved sign language because she sees it quite romantic and it spoke more to her than words. What a captivating way to see things.

In due time, Viktor did well on his work and was promoted when there was an opening for managerial position. I was quite shocked that Mr. Ellison is promoting me as an Assistant Vice President (AVP) in our department. Both Viktor and I were so delighted things are starting to look up for the both of us, although I hope we still have time for each other knowing this is taking a big leap on our career.

I also heard that Aesop passing his licensure examination made him also promoted as a supervisor. Finally, his efforts were recognized. 

Aesop was quite thrilled and wanted to treat everyone in his own cafe. He put up his own small business after being promoted, he really loves sweets. Mike was also his business partner, since Mike finished culinary after acting course because his parents insisted he do so and he has his own bakery shop, he helped Aesop big time. 
It is getting even colder now than the day I proposed to Viktor on our anniversary. Viktor and I heard the news about Eli’s homecoming is nearing too. He'll just stay there for another couple of weeks to settle other business stuff.

Thank Goodness, It’s about time. I’m glad he just stayed there for a year and a couple of months. We informed everyone of this great news as soon as possible and decided to celebrate at our favorite place as usual, Wu Chang Brother's Bar.We’ll throw a big party this time and everyone already filed their vacation leave just for Eli. Every after my singing lesson with Jack’s friend, I often invited him when he isn’t busy with his work, having a couple of drinks at Wu Chang’s just to get some work done and what I mean by work is the tips and tricks he’s giving me. It's been two months now since I started my therapy and I feel like I'm gradually recovering. It was also a good thing that the case was attended immediately or else… I might not be in a much more favorable position than I am now.

Norton and my friends, especially Emily and Emma are there with me in my journey to heal. They are my motivation. 

I wanted to properly say my vows to Norton. He wanted us to get married as soon as possible, but I insisted that I wanted to heal first. I’m glad he respected my decision.

I think… I needed to do something.

The spring flowers started blooming and the bright rays of sunlights are now piercing heat. It was the start of summer and my therapy has been going on for quite some time. Today, Emily contacted us both to go to the Sacred Heart Hospital to tell us something.

“No… I…  You all... Thank you so much” Norton wrapped me in his tight embrace. I can’t hold back my tears too. 

“So, when would the wedding be?” Emily smiled with her inquiry. 

“Uh---”

“Maybe this month or early next month.” Norton interjected. I looked at him astounded, he gave me a smirk. Is he moving with the preparations already? I didn’t even help with it at all, I was too busy with my therapy. 

“OMG! Okay, I will get the flowers ready! I would give it to your wedding. The timing is right too! All the flowers are in full bloom!” Emma jumped giggly. Her excitement excites me too. 

“Thank you, Emma” I smiled at her. Her bright personality is the same as it was when we were still children,“Norton, are we really ready? I mean, I feel like I didn’t do anything...” I look at him worriedly. 

“Pft. Viktor, Of course, I still need your opinion, about all these wedding preparations. I just wanted this to happen as soon as possible” Norton leans closer to me “To secure that you’re mine”

“Ahem! We will give you guys some alone time. Emily and I will nyooomm for now! We will expect that wedding invitation soon.” Emma waved a hand at us while Emily giggled. I knew my face was beet red with what Norton just said. He became much bolder and expressive now.
 
“Norton!” I slapped his arm. 

“Why~ Don’t be shy Viktor” Norton snickered at me. 

Ah! 

Why is he being so playful now?

“You gigolo!” I pouted at him. 

“Aww~ my husband is so cute” He pinched my cheeks 

WHAAA! That hurts!

“No-OWW-TOWWNN.” I speak while he’s still pulling my cheeks.
 
Glad he let it go.

“Have you already booked a place where we will hold our wedding?”

“Hm? I already have an Idea. Vera suggested that we could do it in Lakeside village or in my hometown. The Eversleeping Town.”

“How About the Red---”

“No.”

“Norton…”

“No. Not there. Not ever.” Norton sternly insisted

“Please, listen to me.”

“I can’t let you take a single step on that place again, Viktor... I..” Norton scratched the back of his head. He looks so frustrated and sad. “...I heard from Emily.”

Silence filled the air

I’m guilty for not filling  Norton with all the details of my past. Now, I’m seeing his pained expressions again. I should have the strength to tell him all about it but I’m too weak to unravel those. 

Yeah… I’m pitiful… 

“I’m sorry.” I hung my head low

“No, it’s not your fault. I’m just angry at myself. I promised that I would protect you and this has happened.”

“NO! It was also my fault. I should have told you... About---mmph?” Norton hastily kissed me.

“I know about it now. You have it worst, I know. I’m here now. I’m sorry for being late, love” My tears broke down on what Norton had said. I hugged him tight as I sniffles on his chest letting all these pain and frustrations out. I’ve been too used to hiding all these dark past behind my smile. I never knew that I’m also the kind of person I hated too.

“You can confide in me okay?  I will confide in you too. That is what couples do right?” Norton keeps patting my head. It never ceased to help calm me down.

“Uh-huh” I snuggled on his chest. “Uhmm Norton, I would like to talk with Ms. Anna.” I felt Norton flinched on what I just said but he relaxed again.

“Why would you like to talk with the nun?”

“Norton, I want to let these go, these fears I have inside, the grudge that I’m holding in. If I will start a life with you, I want to be relieved of this load.” Norton sighed exasperatedly upon hearing what I’ve reasoned out to him. 

“If... that would really help then... I will let you talk to the nun BUT I will be there with you”

“Thank you Norton and besides, I really wanted that church to be where we would exchange our vows. It’s just that there's something about that church that I can’t comprehend.”

“Okay then. I would agree, If everything would be fine.”

“Okay” 

With that, we set a schedule to visit the church. 

The Red Church

Norton and I went on our way to the church. This time we made an appointment with the head of the Church, Fr. Orpheus. And once again, the beautiful structure and scenery of the church blessed my eyes with its inherent beauty. 

As we parked inside the church’s premise, I didn’t wait for Norton to open the door for me and get out fast of the car. I calm myself as I know that I will meet her again.  As I roam my eyes around the vast greenery of the church’s yard, my eyes catches a figure of a middle aged man adorn with prestigious holy garb in the color of red and gold. He approaches us with a smile. 

Norton, without me knowing, was already out of the car too. He suddenly became protective of me as the man was approaching us. He then looked at me as if he was affirming if that person has something that would make me uncomfortable. 

“Norton, it's fine. You don’t need to be alarmed.”

“I’m just making sure, you know that I care for you. I just don’t want it to happen again” 

“I swear that I’m okay now. You are here for me afterall.” I smiled at him to calm his nerves down. Well, I did that to calm mine too. I will have an audience with Sister Ann after all. 

Without us noticing, the priest is now right in front of us. 

“Mr. Norton and Mr. Viktor right?” He said with a smile. 

“Yes, Are you perhaps, Fr. Orpheus?” I asked politely
“Yes I am, and you are...Viktor. I’ve heard about you from an old friend. I know about that incident. And it just affirms that you are that child that my old friend was referring to.” He looked at my eyes, he probably knows what I came here for. 

So, the father knows about it too...

I just nodded my head to the priest to acknowledge what he had said. 

“I would like to apologize. I didn’t foresee that something could go wrong and assigned Sister Ann to assist you back then.” The priest looked at me sadly. “If I just knew...”

“We didn’t know that it would happen too, Father. It all happened by chance and maybe that chance was given to me to let out all these grudges and fears that I kept all these years.” I flash the Priest my resolved smile. Norton smiled at me too. I knew he felt relieved too.  

“Then I would like you to meet Sister Ann  now. She’s waiting behind the church doors.” 

The priest walked with us. I let out a sharp breath and make my way to see the person that would let me travel back to my dark past. Norton held my cold hand. The warmth he gave me let me calm down. I know I can do this. For me and for him. 

Before opening the large church door, Fr. Orpheus look at us. With that, Norton and I nodded our heads in unison. 

The beautiful, intricately carved wooden door swung open and the view of magnificent red, gold, and white interior of the church was laid open for us to marvel. My eyes catched the familiar black nun’s garb right at the front of the pulpit at the center of aisles. Her peculiar yellow eyes that I knew so well catched mine. 

Hm?

Norton’s hand laid on my shoulder. I look over it and see his expression. It was sober. I clench my fist as I let all my strength on my feet to drag me closer to the nun. My beloved is here for me, watching me, supporting me and will catch me when I fall. I have to be strong

“Viktor Granz...” Ms. Anna or Sister Ann rather muttered under her breath. She looked at me with those pained and guilty eyes of her. Seeing her like this makes me want to know her side even more. Maybe knowing it will answer all my why's. 

“Sister Ann...” I look at her sadly. I realize that time has changed both of us. 

I can see various expressions from her now, Not like what it was back then, where she smiled but it was eerie and full of malice.  

“I'm sorry child… for everything… I… I didn’t deserve to be here… given salvation…I must be together with him... with them.. I..” 

“Sister Ann...”

She's crying. What could have happened to her back then? Maybe both of us have lingering regrets, fear, grudges, and suffered deep inside us.

“I wanted to hear it from you, What happened to you? Why are you crying? Are you really guilty of what you’ve done back then?” I tell all these piercing words without stuttering, as if I was interrogating someone who did me wrong. 

“I will not deny the fact that I did something unforgivable. I deserved to be punished. That is why I devoted myself to the highest being that could gave us salvation…” Sister Ann explained with a down casted eye. “I’ve been… used, I have been blinded with what Dr. Burke preaches, I have been drugged to abide by his will. A mere puppet clasped in between his hands. I’m a fool believing everything we’ve been doing is for goodwill. I saw it all differently…”

Sister Ann's Flashback

It was a sunny spring time where the Sacred Heart Hospital where Anna worked as a nurse is bustling with people again. Lots of aspiring nurses, they all have the same goals, to be doctors. 

It's crowded in front of the lobby of the hospital, people are greeting the esteemed Doctor that acquired various awards with his great discovery of various cures for psychological and neuro diseases. These cases were quite complex, there haven’t been a default procedure on how to proceed with such critical cases given the lack of other advanced technology available for doctors to use. 

As for Anna, the epidemic that struck her during her childhood made her decide to pursue medicine to find cure to her odd eyes which the Doctors could not explain to her. Why she acquired it after being healed from the epidemic?

Her odd eyes earned looks and judgement from others. Her co-nurses are not so fond of associating with her too. Well, who will be right? Her yellow-black eyes screamed eerie and monstrous. People in this era believed in superstitious beliefs. No wonder she was being cursed at and avoided at all cost. 

She was relieved that her role in the hospital does not involve associating with patients and other nurses. She spent most of her time doing the paperworks and sorting out the hospital archives. According to her skill set, she should be doing what a normal nurse should do but when she does, people request different nurses to assist them. It hurts her being discriminated against like this. 

She did not choose to get these eyes. 

She did not want it either. 

Away from the nurses that greeted the esteemed Doctor, Anna stayed a foot away but still tiptoeing to catch a glimpse of him. He was greeted with a bouquet of flowers and applause from the crowd. 

Well, he just received a Nobel Prize and is on his way to be the guest speaker today for Sacred Heart Hospital’s medical workers. 

Anna flinched as she catched the Doctor’s eyes looking directly at her. She was panicking internally as he diverted his way to the hospital’s auditorium and went to where Anna was. This made her astounded as his gaze was still fixated on her. She was not used to people staring at her eyes for more than a few seconds. They usually do not try to look at her again.

This was something new for her. Something that she did not expect to happen ever again. 

“What an odd eyes” The man stopped in front of her and muttered words of amazement. 

“Pardon?” Anna averted her eyes as she was not quite comfortable being looked at. 

“Sorry, please don’t take it the wrong way. Your eyes are beautiful” Anna’s mouth was wide agape. She did not expect someone to admire what she hated the most,“Ah~ sorry. It sounded like I’m hitting on you. I promise that I am not. I’m just easily captivated with the things that cannot be explained. Especially in the fields of medicine. My mind is tingling with senses that I must solve that mystery, the curious cases of diseases I mean” Anna’s eyes sparked with hopes that the genius Doctor took interest in her case. 

“By the way, I’m Doctor Burke. Here is my contact information. You could reach out to me again and we’ll talk about those eyes of yours, okay?” The Doctor flashed a sweet smile towards Anna. 

“I’m Anna, I admire your genius in the medical field Doctor. I promised that you would hear from me very soon..”

And that is how Anna infinitely approaches the sun which was equivalent to infinitely hurting herself. 

After being woken up from the various medical procedures she underwent as a lab rat to for the Doctor where she became his perfect puppet, she realized that she was intoxicated and blinded with admiration and love for him.

And after two years of serving him blindly… All his doings were busted. His hunger for fame and knowledge made him a madman that had made Anna gone mad too. 

After rehabilitation to remove the spell that the Doctor put her under, she was taken care of by The Red Church. 

This is where she realized ‘She should not have loved the sun’.

END OF FLASHBACK

All those revelations made my knees buckle. Norton catches me quickly. I feel his ragged breathing against my skin. I am making him worry again. 

“Norton. I’m alright. I’m fine.” I patted his shoulders to relieve him but he gave me a ‘not trusting you’ look. I snorted and just smiled towards him. “For real. I’m okay” Norton sighed exasperatedly.

“Fine if that is the case.” He said out of resignation. I chuckled at him. He’s such a worrywart. 

“Sister Ann, you’re also a victim, just like us children back then. You were in love. There is nothing wrong about that. I just hope that you are doing well now and I can see that you are, under His grace.” I smiled at the nun with puffy eyes, out of crying telling her tragic story.

“Viktor, I can’t thank Fr. Orpheus enough for giving me this chance. I can at least redeem myself and I deeply regret what I’ve done. I will not be relieved of those sins, I will always carry it with me. I'm very sorry, child, for everything. Looking at you now, I’m happy that you grew to be a fine young man, happy and well. I see that this man beside you is the reason behind it.” This time it was my turn to cry. I feel a heavy weight lifted off my chest hearing everything from Sister Ann. I was devastated at first on why one of them was freed, out of the prison. I thought I felt betrayed, but at least I know why

Justice is served and I have to leave all these grudges behind. 
“Sister Ann, thank you and I just want you to know that this man beside me helps me and he gave me everything, made me smile and reassure every second of my life and I wish for your happiness too. I sincerely do.”

“Child, I’m happy serving Him now. This is my redemption. So I heard that this man is soon to be your husband?”

“Yes! And I would like the Red Church to be the place of our wedding” I looked at Norton apologetically, I solely decided on where our wedding would be held. He just gave me a sweet smile and a nod. 

“Then I would reserve the church for your wedding day then. And oh! This must be a coincidence. I don’t know if you knew but I was arranging the church’s archive, I saw a ‘Granz’ marriage. Maybe they were your parent’s?” 

I dug my head for any information about my parent’s wedding. I remembered the photo I have of them in their white gown and suit. The background was familiar. I whipped my head again to the pulpit and looked at the colorful stained glass design of a cross. It was all familiar. 

“YES! Norton!”

“Yes?!” Norton was perplexed with my sudden excitement as I called out his name. 

“Mom and Dad were wedded here! In this church maybe that is why something is pulling me to this place the first time I saw it. I feel like they are blessing our wedding from heaven!” I excitedly exclaimed at Norton. I heard Sister Ann and Fr. Orpheus giggled. 

AHHH! I must have sounded so overly excited!

“I’m happy that they approved of me, then shall we do it here. Exchange our vow and be together forever like how our parents are to each other too.” Norton came closer to me and let his forehead touch mine. 

“DEFINITELY!”

“So when would it be?” Fr. Opheus asked happily. 

“I would also like to know, to prepare various things to make sure your wedding would be the best there is” Sister Ann seconded. 

“By the end of this month.”

“That soon?!” I exclaimed. I was shocked how soon Norton wanted it to be. I mean, I would love to be wed to him as soon as possible but it was such a short time preparation. We only got two weeks minus a day when we will meet Eli for his welcome party too. 

“Yes love and don’t worry. We can do it. Don’t you trust me?” Norton winked at me. 

How can I even say no to this man right?

“Alright! Let’s do it then on that day.” I smiled at him sweetly.

“Heard that Father and Sister? Please reserve us the church on that day okay?” Norton gave them both an Okay sign

“Alright. We will.” Fr. Orpheus and Sis Ann looked at us with a smile on their faces.  A smile of relief. We’re finally casting away our fears and burden. I’m glad I did get the courage to confront Sister Ann.

With that we went back swiftly to Norton’s apartment and made haste with all the preparation we needed on our wedding day.

AESOP

I’ve heard from Viktor that Eli will finally come home, It’s been a year since we last see each other and after that break up we still didn’t communicate but thankfully Eli did try and contact Aidan, I was quite hesitant at first simply because Eli might tell Aidan about our conflict but No---he didn’t ever mention it to Aidan, not even once. He listened to Aidan though, about his school and the life he has with me. I often listen secretly whenever they talk. I missed Eli’s voice, I miss him so much. Whenever Aidan talks to him through Skype, I can’t help but to get so emotional about it. We’re no longer together but I couldn’t help but want him back into my life after all that. I sighed to my weak self. I could never come forward and tell him all that, I’m still engulfed with the guilt of telling him that it’s best if we broke up, I didn’t even reconsider us being friends after that break up and I didn’t have the courage to tell him I’m sorry, not one of us tried to communicate with each other.

One night, when Aidan and I were having dinner. Aidan’s phone rang.

“It’s daddy!” The little silver haired boy exclaimed

“Oh, you better take it then… I’ll clean this up. Go on” I took the plates and utensils to the counter while Aidan happily prances in the living room,“Aidan, don’t forget to brush your teeth after your conversation with daddy, okay?”

“Yes mommy!” 

I was busy washing the dishes and eagerly listening to whatever conversation Eli and Aidan have in the living room. 

“How are you champ!” I flinched as soon as I heard Eli’s voice rang across the screen.

“I’m doing great daddy! Just finished dinner with mommy~” Aidan replied happily

“Oh, what did you have for dinner then?” 

“We just have veggies every dinner, I don’t like it really! Especially the green thingy, why do people eat those, don’t giraffes only eat these things?” I snorted hearing Aidan’s reply to Eli. Why would he think of giraffes out of all the animals? I heard Eli laughed as well.

“Is that so? Does that make me a giraffe for loving those green things, I actually love vegetables and fruits and you should too Aidan, it’s healthy.” Eli scolded him. How cute.

“EHHHHHHHHH! I don’t wanna! Even mommy is forced to eat those things! We preferred sweets, they’re healthy too! We always have dessert after eating those leafy green stuff.”

“That’s not healthy at all. Tell mommy lay off the sweets. He’ll get fat” Eli snickered and Aidan laughed at his comment

WHAT THE HELL ELI! I heard that! 

I want to march and tell him off but then I remembered Eli and I are still not okay. I stopped and bobbed my head to watch their conversation from the kitchen. I listened and started pouting as I did. Eli is really teasing me through Aidan, I was so flustered about the things Aidan is telling Eli. Geez, these two they’re starting to act like each other. Eli is contagious. But it’s actually bringing a smile on my face. They really become like father and son as time goes by.

“In any case daddy, I will have a retreat from Friday to Sunday this week!”

“I see better take care of yourself over there, okay? Don’t talk to strangers and stick with a group, also keep your medical kit inside your bag just in case, also snacks, I will allow sweets this time. Always tell mommy how you were there, don’t let him worry. He’s a worrywart so don’t stress him a lot and of course enjoy yourself.” The way Eli told Aidan those things made my heart melt. I never have expected him to be that much of a father figure to Aidan. He really did mature a lot in England. 

With that final farewell, both of them sent a flying kiss to each other. I can’t believe Eli still finds a way to shatter my walls like this. He’s not even talking to me but he still makes my heart jump. 

I miss you so much, Eli.

The day for Aidan’s retreat finally came. I took him to school and waited for the bus to leave. This is the 5th day since Eli came home too, Viktor told me that they will hold a party for Eli next weekend and everyone filed their leave already, there’s this part of me that wants to go and a part of me that is scared to see Eli. I still couldn’t do it. I still can’t see Eli personally. I’m so stupid and childish. 

I went home walking as usual. To keep my mind preoccupied off of things, I don’t leave for work today to keep an eye on Aidan’s first day in the retreat house, Eli is right, I am a worrywart. When I was nearing my home. I noticed a man sitting across the bench, I slowly took a step closer. It’s not a burglar isn’t it? I took out my phone and prepare to call the cops when all of a sudden the man turned to me with a smile on his face

I was stoned in my position.
Those beautiful sapphire eyes, pointed nose, that sweet smile, that brunette hair brushing over the breeze. He’s also wearing that expensive looking khaki coat and that owl that perch on his shoulder.

“E… E-eli…”

“Hey there Aesop”

I dropped my phone in my hand and started sobbing right there. I can’t believe seeing him face to face will break me in an instant, I still cry over him, I still felt weak on my knees and I still have strong feelings for him. I can’t believe this heart of mine loves Eli this long. It’s surprising me one way or another. I can’t even see him anymore with these glassy eyes. I just heard him walking towards me and picking up my phone.

“E-eli… hic… eli…”

Eli didn’t say anything and just enveloped me in his arms, He really matured a lot. If this was the Eli I’ve known a long time ago, he would be all jumpy if he sees me but now he just silently hugging me and rested his chin over my head, letting me cry for a while. After I calmed down he wiped my tears away, holding my face in his hand.

“I missed you so much, Aesop.”
I couldn’t muster a word to reply. I’m so overwhelmed by whatever is happening in front of me. Eli smiled at me, maybe he knew I missed him too. He gently took my hand and we headed inside the house.We sat down on the sofa and just stared at each other for a couple of minutes, caressing each other’s face, looking deep into each other's eyes.

“It’s Aidan’s retreat today, right?” Eli spoke to break the silence

“Mhm… S-sorry, I cried all of a sudden… I mi… mis…” I still can’t tell him these things. I still felt guilty over that break up and fight we have. I’m blaming myself for everything. I hung my head down, avoiding his gaze.

“Aesop. Look at me”

I slowly looked up to Eli, trying to suppress my never ending tears.

“Do you still feel guilty about what happened to us? The break up? Our fight.” Those words flinched. I still am but hearing those words from Eli, seeing through me made my tummy churn. I nodded to him. I need to confess to him how I’ve felt back then to release me to this impending guilt that loomed inside my heart for almost a year and a half now

“I’m so sorry Eli. I was a fool back then, I needed you so much I couldn’t say it, I missed you so much but I never showed it. I was always angry all the time, I wanted peace but I still needed you, I’m so greedy. I want everything and I was always thinking you should understand me but what I was doing was not trying to understand you, you were hurt the most and yes you are right back then, It was hard for you, you’re away from home, away from your friends, family and away from me. I didn’t listen to it all, I was so fixated at being someone worthy to stand by your side and I was so blinded by my goal that I sacrifice my time and love for you. I was so stupid. I can’t see how much sacrifice you did for me and I only see myself.”

I looked at Eli as he listened eagerly. I really am sorry for what I’ve done to him. I want to tell all of this to him,“I love you Eli, I love you so much. I wanted you back so much. I can’t even have the courage to tell you all these back then, I wanted to be with you, I wanted to be there for you. I want to turn back time and just slap the old me who hurt you. I was scared of getting hurt. I was making the wrong decisions, so if you will give me one more chance. If you still love me too, I want to fix this broken relationship we have. I’m so sorry Eli, I love you.”

“Aesop…”  Eli gave me a sweet kiss on my forehead and smiled,“I want to say sorry too, I must have suffocated you---”

“No… It was just my ego.”

“No, No. I really do, I know how much your exam means so much to you…”

“It doesn’t even matter anymore because that exam made me lose you that day.”

“Don’t say that! If it matters to you, It matters to me. Everything you cherish, I cherish too, so don’t you ever say that it didn’t matter to you”

“Thank you, Eli.” I gave him a quick kiss on his lips,“You don’t have to say sorry though or explain yourself to me. I understand but I have a question… Do you still love me?”

Eli gave me a huge grin on his face before answering which made me a little bit curious. He gave me that same grin when I confessed to him two years ago. I rolled my eyes at him this time. Eli immediately scurried inside his pocket

Hm?

He took out a small silver box inside, my mouth was wide agape when he took my hand and planted a kiss on it. He bent on one knee. I was really petrified. Is this really happening?

“Aesop Carl, Will you marry me?”

“W-wha…! Ah… Uh… E-eli… what’s---”

“I know I'm doing things abruptly yet again but these past few years. I was thinking a lot, like a lot of things about you and about us. I can’t promise you that our relationship will be all sunshine and butterflies but I will promise you that this time, I will never let you go. Not now, not ever. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Eli gripped my hand tightly but it was gentle as he genuinely looked into my eyes.

“I can’t believe you keep surprising.” I giggled,“Yes, I will marry you. Eli Clark”

Eli’s lips curved into a smile. He slipped this beautiful white gold plated ring in my ring finger, I stared at it as it gleam. How pretty. Eli hugged and kissed me, I kissed him back and then he instantly pulled away

“Hm?”

“I was going to sing for you. This proposal is sooo very anti-climatic.” Eli scratched the back of his head. He might have felt that his surprise to me is very.. Well.. Lacking. 

“Sing for me?” I snorted at his declaration,“You don’t even sing Eli. I will just laugh at you. I might postpone my answer to your proposal if you do”

“Hey!” Eli pouted,“I’m serious though. Remember back in Oletus Christmas part Naib sang to Jack and when he confessed his feelings they became lovers, the same thing happened to Viktor and Norton too.”

“Norton sang to Viktor when he proposed? I’m shocked. I didn’t know Norton have that hidden talent in him.” I didn’t expect Norton to be cheesy then again hanging out with Eli and the others might have given him ideas though. Then again I saw how this soon to be husband of mine is not so good at making up surprises which does not actually surprise me now. 

“I didn’t know that either. I wanted the same but I didn’t have time to practice and as you have said I have no musical talent or whatsoever, Music is not my forte, even if you think of me as a genius, It’s beyond my understanding.” Eli crossed his arms, shaking his head as he did

“I see. I know how to play a couple of instruments, music is my forte but I don’t fancy it especially the loud kind of music, Orchestra maybe but not modern pop culture kind of music. I never expected Eli Clark to have that kind of weakness though.”

“What do you mean weakness? You're my only weakness, Aesop.”

“Uh… Stop saying those cheesy lines, It’s cringy.”

Eli laughed when I shuddered and kissed my cheeks,“You’re still the same as ever.”

“And you’re not?”

“Nah, I changed. Can’t you tell?” I looked at Eli from head to toe. It might be fun to give him some teasing

“The only thing that changed in you is your hair. Why did you cut it? Like shorter than before?”

“You noticed? It’s a subtle change and it didn’t have much effect. You’re so sharp”

“I… Noticed everything about you.” I shyly looked away

“Okayyyyyy~ In any case, Can I stay here till Aidan come back home?”

I work and study hard for our future. Michiko did the same. We really can't thank my parents enough for all the support they offered.

Those bad and good memories, they’re all a part of me, how much I’ve grown. I’m happy and thankful for that because now I'm rewarded with the happiness of being with my wife and son.

Finally, Our lost love was found. I told our parents about our reunion and we both receive blessings from Desaulniers and Adam’s Household.

“Yay! We finally adopted you. What a cute little baby you are!” Fiona jumped happily taking the little crimson haired girl in her arms. 

I didn’t expect the documents needed for adoption were this strict. We both wanted to have a child of our own and the only way to do that is to adopt one. Upon searching every orphanage, Ms. Woods helped us to choose any of these beautiful children of our choice. To be honest, seeing all these children made me want to adopt them all but we couldn’t so both Fiona and I decided to help the orphanage a little by giving charity and that’s where we find this little shy girl, her presence drew Fiona and I to her and what is more striking was her name. Fiora, it’s like a combination of mine and her name, she even has red dreadlocks like Fiona does. We decided to adopt this four year old at once. The filing and everything we’re so difficult to accomplish but after months of preparation we finally adopt her.

“Thank you for taking care of me.” The little crimson haired girl smiled. She’s so adorable. I didn’t expect having a daughter will make our hearts melt like this, Fiona cuddled her close to her arms

After bringing Fiora to her new home, we went to buy a lot of things for her and it made her very happy. We bought her cute clothes and all the necessities she needed. We also decided to let her go to school since she’s turning 5 this year. Being a parent is quite taxing but it’s really fulfilling. I told Fiona that I will resign from my work since I no longer work under Mr. Campbell and I already save enough for a small business to keep an eye on Fiora, while Fiona on the other hand has already been promoted to be Viktor’s secretary since he’s already a manager. Things would be better that way

Today, Fiona was getting ready for work. Our daughter and I helped her prepare

“Good Luck mommy to work!” Fiora waved joyously

“You too! Goodluck on your entrance exams baby! And you to my beloved waifuuu~”

“Alright. Stay safe, I’ll cook your favorite dish tonight”

“Thank you! Love you both.”

With that, My precious wife left for work and both Fiora and I spent some mother and daughter quality time together.

VIKTOR

It was the day that finally, Eli will meet us all again! We are all giddy and excited of what Eli would be like. He rarely contacted us after our departure in England and would just drop a few hi and hellos in chats. He really worked hard like he's running out of time. This made me and Norton triumphant in knocking some senses to this brother of ours. Well, he really did come back home fast working hard overseas. 

We were alarmed as the chimes from the bar door made a sound. This signalled Eli's arrival. We went to our positions and held the confetti popper in our hands.

"Hello Gu---"

*Confettis Popping* 

"WELCOME HOME ELI!"

"AAHH! You guys… you prepared all of these for me?" 

"Well, we did Eli. Welcome home! You look like a promising CEO now." Norton draped his arm around Eli. 

"Well I should right! Can't disappoint my AVP!" Eli chuckled while elbowing Norton on his side. "By the way.. Viktor! Pal! I'm so glad you are fine now. Aesop told me everything that happened.." Eli looked at me sadly.

"But I'm fine now Eli, thank you for your concern. We just.. Didn't told you about that matter to free your mind from some additional stress" I smiled widely at him."And besides, you said Aesop filled you out with some details??.. Does that mean…"

"Ohohoho.. Eli. . You first went to Aesop before us huh. That is why this celebration waited for almost 2 weeks huh?" Naib interjected and questioned Eli teasingly. I looked at Aesop just behind Eli, I didn't notice at first that they came together. He is cutely hiding those blushes with his hand. 

"Ehem. Before anything else…" Eli grabbed Aesop by the waist. Everyone just looked at each other and went silent, waiting for the expected announcement that will come out of Eli's mouth. 

"AESOP AND I WILL GET MARRIED!"

"EEEEHHHHHHHHHH??!!!"

Okay. That was not our expected announcement. We just thought that he would announce them getting back together but, be married??

"Oh wow, 2 pairs are getting married!" Xie exclaimed. 

"Don't tell us that you will use our bar too for your wedding reception. Our bar suffered a lot from you guys these past years." Fan shakes his head while saying serious stuff that was his usual way of saying a joke. 

"OF COURSE WE AREN'T" Eli and Norton said in chorus. Me and Aesop just chuckled on how the brain cells of these two are in sync. 

The bar was filled with claps, awws, and congratulations for Eli and Aesop which also goes the same for me and Norton upon knowing we would be wedded by the end of this month. 

"Eli, Aesop. Congratulations to both of you! I wish you all the best!" I give my widest smile to both of them. They really fit together. 

"Congratulations Eli and Aesop. As the witness of your love story, you could expect the best wedding testimony from your best man." Norton snickered.

"Did you just decide that you'll be our best man?" Eli snickered back.

"Aren't I?"

"You couldn't be if we  wed the same time and date right?" Eli puffed his chest high. Eh? They will be wedded this soon too? I looked at Aesop and his mouth was wide agape, stoned to his position.

"ELI!!! That was so soon I... " the timid Aesop just shouted. Hehe Eli could really make my bestfriend go helluva. 

"What Aesop~ you don't want to love? You know that we could actually do it even if it would happen tomorrow. I really wanted to make you mine fast legally." Aesop blushed hard, I could see his ears reddened too. Hehehe so cute.

"Aaaaaah~ you guys are so cute!" Mike flail his arms around. "Well Lucky~ babe you have something to say too right?" 

"Yes Mike. By the way, Mike and I are already engaged." They huddled together and showed the ring on Mike's hand. Another booming claps and congratulations filled the air.

I saw Naib looked piercingly at Jack. 

"Hmmmn" 

"Hmmmm?" Jack tilted his head at Naib.

"Ugh. Nevermind." Naib just shrugged.

"Since you guys are dropping bombs here, let me tell you mine. Michiko can't be here today because.. She's carrying my other child with her. She needs more rest." Hastur said proudly. 

Another set of claps and congratulations filled the air. I can't wait to see another cute baby like Robbie too!

"Oh Hastur! You'll give me another cute godchild. If it is another Robbie I'm more than grateful!" Jack exclaimed. He really does love Hastur's son. Well I saw him once with Mrs. Michiko and he is soooo cute to resist. 
"Well well~ back to those couple that will be wedded, we will  just wait for your invitation guys! We'll be sure to be there to witness it!" William said happily. I'm happy too that things are working out fine for both him and Martha. I still remember how hopeless romantic he was back then. With what I'm witnessing right now, he is so sweet towards Martha and never left her side. 

Also, Vera and Fiona can't come today since they are taking care of their child. We were happy that they are going steady and happy with their life. 

Looking back.. The people surrounding me have their own struggles too and eventually come together, helping each other, and be happy together in the end. How far have we come. These bright genuine smiles and laughter that filled this room is a scene that would be forever engraved in my mind and heart. I'm so lucky to meet all these people in my life.

I can't wait for our wedding day to arrive too. The days to count down are less than the number of the fingers in my hand. 

The moment we would exchange 'I do's'.
