Ye Olden Days
Some speak so fondly of the "good old days," but I speak of this day. Those bygone days from yesteryear might hold some fond memory or a lesson learned, but this day is holy.
The waters that have passed will never turn the mill again. Many yearn for a better tomorrow, but if you think about it, today was yesterday's better tomorrow. Yesterday has gone, and tomorrow is a far-away place some may never reach in this mortal form.
This is the day that God made.
We were created to live from moment to moment. Do not link your happiness to temporary things, or your joy and hope may pass from your life when those things fall away.
Anchor yourself to the Rock of the Ages. Take refuge in the shadow of Him who remains the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Do not build your house on the sands of time, or you may watch it crumble and fall. Find happiness and joy with Him who never fails nor forsakes you.
People will come and go. Things will come and go. Situations will come and go. The Living God, the Spring of Life, the Living Word, the Savior, and the Truth will remain when everything else has faded to memory. He will always be the Light in the darkness and Hope when all else fails.
Do not cling to old victories or past failures with such strength that time passes by unnoticed. Release what was and embrace what is. Make this day worth remembering. You'll never recall those days when you yearned for what was, but you will remember the day when you chose to stand your ground.
The day you placed your trust in Him that is greater than you and finally learned to live.
***
So many people live in the past. The days when things were better, and everything worked. It is true; there have been better days when we could still eat what we wanted, and things were made to work and last.
The problem with living in the past is that it robs you of the future and the promises of God.
Lot's wife looked back and turned to a pillar of salt.
God warns us not to put our hand on the plough and keep looking back to what was because if we keep yearning for the things of the world after we have left them behind, we are not yet fit for the kingdom of God.
This life isn't about worldly things but about getting our spirit ready for what is to come. Choosing The Way is not an obligatory thing we do to avoid hell and go to heaven. God gave us free will, and Jesus gave us a choice in following Him. When something is freely and gladly given, it has much more value than when it is grudgingly and stingily granted.
