Chapter 4

Over break, Natsuki and Yuri sent notes to each other every day. All of Natsuki's started with Heya Yuri!, and all of Yuri's started with Hello Natsuki,. Yuri loved reading Natsuki's notes she was sent, and every time she read them she could imagine hearing Natsuki say the words on the page.

Natsuki's letters were always folded slightly sloppily with Yuri's address written on it. Yuri's were encased in light purple envelopes, which had Natsuki's address written on the front. The flap in the back was held down with one of Yuri's stickers from an old book when she was younger, and never bothered to get rid of.

The letters were mostly about the most recent volume of their manga they both started reading. It was still beyond Yuri that they both got each other the same manga set, but it was better than nothing.

Yuri really liked the manga so far. She loved the dedication the main character had, as well as her determination.

After many letters, they finally came up with a day for them to make cookies. It would be taking place at Yuri's house, and Natsuki would bring everything they needed. Yuri though, knowing how many things baking requires from overhearing Natsuki boast about her baking skill, planned to meet up with Natsuki at the corner that separated each of their ends of the cul-de-sac.

Yuri waited there for Natsuki after she had been texted that Natsuki was on her way. There was snow spread across the grass, and the occasional dog walker or jogger would pass by, but that was about it.

Natsuki arrived maybe three minutes later, and almost dropped her things when she saw Yuri.

"Y-Yuri?! What are you doing here??" Natsuki stuttered in disbelief.

"I thought that.." Yuri looked away and fiddled with a stray stand of hair, "That you may need help carrying everything.."

"You think its because I'm short don't you?!" Natsuki snapped.

Yuri, shocked by this sudden outburst, dropped the strand of hair, and went a deep red color.

"E-eh?! No! I'd never think you couldn't do something because of your-." Yuri was cut off by Natsuki.

"Hah, I'm joking silly! I know you'd never say something like that, or even think it. Take this bag for me please since you're here." Natsuki smiled and handed Yuri mentioned bag.

The two walked to Yuri's place, chatting about some of their favorite parts of the new mange they started. Once they got to Yuri's, Natsuki immediately started unpacking all the baking supplies she brought.

"I went against doing heavily Christmas themed cookies, and decided we should just do chocolate chip. Recipe is in that cookie catalog over there, page twelve I think, and then we can get started." Natsuki instructed while both girls unpacked.

Yuri flipped to the page and set the recipe book on a counter, and by then Natsuki was done unpacking.

"Okay, see, you crack it gently over the bowl, " Natsuki demonstrated for Yuri. They were making the batter, and Natsuki was teaching Yuri as the went. So far it was all good, and Yuri had a pretty good understanding.

Yuri smacked the egg against the brim of the bowl, and didn't even crack the egg. She tried it a few more times, thinking it was a tough egg, and it made no difference.

"Nat, it won't crac-." Yuri was cut off by Natsuki, despite her height, came up behind Yuri and put her hands over Yuri's.

"Wait, Nat..?"

"You crack it.. Like.. This.." Natsuki got on her tippy-toes to see where the bowl's brim was, and smacked the egg against it using Yuri's hands. The egg's yolk then laid in the bowl with the rest of the ingredients.

Natsuki backed off and handed Yuri another egg to crack. This time, Yuri took a knife out of an upper cabinet and cracked the egg with that. It saved time in her eyes.

"While you have the knife, we need one and a half butter stick.. Things.. I'm not sure what I'm saying." Natsuki put a hand on her forehead, confusing herself.

Yuri snuck up behind her and gave her a small headpat. "It's fine, you have the butter?" Yuri asked.

"Yes, I do, here." Natsuki handed Yuri the butter to cut up.

Once the butter was in, they had to use the mixer, which Yuri bought just for this occasion. It cost her around 40,000 yen, and she knew it would take a while to earn it all back. Despite the cost, it was for her dearest friend, Natsuki.

"Dearest friends don't spent 40,000 yen on a mixer for one night... Maybe it's more than that now.."

Yuri didn't have time to debate her possible feelings for Natsuki, or find out how to earn her yen back, and rather she needed to bake with Natsuki.

"Ready?" Natsuki asked.

"Ready as I'll ever be.." Yuri responded, plugging in the mixer.

It went well at the start, but it got to a point where the intensity had to be turned up, Natsuki volunteered to do it while Yuri got the chocolate chips and baking trays out, but leaving Natsuki alone with a high-speed mixer turned out to be a bad idea.

"Y-YURI!" Natsuki shrieked as their batter flew all around the room.

Yuri threw the bag of chocolate chips to the floor and rushed through all the flying batter to the outlet and unplugged the mixer.

"Phew, that could have done worse..." Natsuki sighed in relief.

"Worse.. How could.."

"Sayori could have been left alone with it." Natsuki finished.

"Answered my question."

"Lets start cleaning this up, okay? It's not an issue so don't worry much Nat." Yuri reassured, handing Natsuki a roll of paper towels. As she did so, she realized what she said.

"Nat?! What is wrong with me? That is the SECOND time I've done it, not mentioning that I even got away safely the first time. Nobody can call her things like that, and I've only ever seen Sayori get away with it."

Yuri excused herself from the scene due to her mental breakdown, saying she had to use the restroom. Instead she took a detour to her bedroom.

She gazed at her knife case mounted on her bedroom wall. All of them were recently cleaned and sharpened, so it was the best time to use one.

Self harm up ahead folks, you have been WARNED

She started with one, then two, then three, then six, then fifteen, then twenty-one, and ended with twenty-eight different places where blood would seep from her skin on her right arm alone.

Just as she started to dig the knife into her left arm..

Warning over kiddos

Another voice was heard from the doorway.

"Y-Yuri..?"

No you don't have to read it-

A/n: Bombard me with grammar errors if you find any, I don't trust myself completely when writing and checking work at *checks clock* 12:50am. I was told to go to sleep by a friend but I completely ignored her request. She's probably reading this, so friend you are very welcome for the tides, sun, and sky. Bore you guys yet?
