Midnight Talk (Rewrite)

((This is just a rewrite of 'Midnight Talk', I will be slowly but surely rewriting all my old oneshots, but for now it's just this one. Also I looked it up, but when Keith was in the blade, he grew to probably the height of Lance, so I kinda twisted that and took it to my advantage with this chapter))

It was around midnight, and everyone seemed to be asleep peacefully in the altean ship, getting some rest after a hard mission that day.

Keith had been able to stay the night after the mission, it was the Blade of Marmora's reward to him after not seeing his fellow paladins for what seemed like forever. He was going to have the day off the next day but another sudden mission was cast upon him and he only got to relax just this night alone.

Keith was still awake around this time, even after overworking himself. He wasn't able to sleep in a place that seemed so foreign to him now. He was used to sleeping in those cramped spaces back at the hideout. But who was he kidding, he gets used to anything too quickly.

His lack of sleep was probably going to mess with his brain tomorrow during his mission, so he should try to go to sleep, but the constant thought of someone in particular hadn't let him get a wink of sleep for the past 3 hours, and it was really getting on his nerves. He brain wouldn't go to ease without venting to someone. But venting and talking about feelings wasn't something Keith liked doing.

But even with his minds protest, his body moved to get up and out of his room. Keith really had to work on his impulse control, he's been in too much accidents because of his impulsive decisions, and this one wasn't any better than the rest.

He arrived at where he didn't want to be most, judging by how his heart was beating out of his chest. He could already tell this was a bad decision when he knocked. He waited outside, debating if he should go or not, but a creak of a bed from inside the room made his freeze, his heart beating harder than ever. He's never going to let himself make an impulsive decision ever again.

The door slide open only a few seconds after, and there was the guy Keith absolute hated to be seeing in this situation most. Lance. Fucking Lance. His hair slightly a mess, his shirt riding up, and his face completely tired. Keith was kind of surprised that he wasn't wearing a face mask, but that didn't matter.

"Keith?" Lance asked, yawning and scratching the back of his neck, and Keith's heart definitely skipped a beat. "What are you doing here?" Lance asked, smoothing out his shirt, so it was covering his skin once again. Keith just stared, trying to grab some random words to say from the mess that was his mind right now.

"Just um" He started, and he could feel Lance's eyes travel along his body, "Just couldn't sleep" he said quickly. Lance stayed silent for a moment, before making eye contact with the raven head. "Are you wearing the same thing from today?" Lance asked, almost unimpressed and Keith froze up again.

"Yes..?" Keith said, and Lance just sighed and pinched his nose. "Dude, you can't wear jeans to bed, come here" Lance said, and walked back into his room with another sigh. Keith just followed, no questions asked.

"Here" Lance said, handing Keith a pair of pajama pants, but Keith just looked at the flannel pattern. "Take it" Lance said sternly, shoving the pants into the other's hands so that he could take it. "I don't think" Keith started but Lance just pointed to random door and cut him off, "There's the bathroom, go change"

Keith had no time to protest when the other started pushing him towards the door. He walked in and Lance shut the door behind him and the raven head was left alone in the small bathroom. When he did get changed eventually, he was surprised to found out that the pants seem to actually somewhat fit him, probably because of his growth spurt during being on that godforsaken planet for god knows how long.

By the time he got out of the bathroom, Lance was sitting on the edge of the bed, catching his eye almost admittedly. Lance smiled when he looked at him, "You look weird in flannel". "Shut up" Was Keith's automatic response, but his heart started to beat faster once again.

Keith went to go sit down next to Lance, and silence filled the room. The other boy cleared his throat almost admittedly and spoke, "So, why couldn't you sleep?". "To much on my mind" Keith said, avoiding eye contact, and instead stared at the floor. Lance looked to where Keith was staring, but figured it was nothing.

"Like what?" Lance asked, and Keith stayed silent. It went quiet again while Lance waited for the response, while the raven head tried to look for an answer. This was probably the longest they went without talking to each other, but Keith finally spoke again.

"I don't feel like I belong here anymore" Keith said with a sigh, and even though he couldn't see Lance, he could tell what kind of expression he was making. "What do you mean 'don't belong here'? Keith you were the red lion, you're very important to the team" Lance said, but the other just shook his head.

"Yeah, 'were' Lance, I'm not the red paladin anymore" Keith said, turning his head to look at him, and Lance's expression was exactly how he thought it would be; worried. "That doesn't make you any less important to the team. Even if you're paladin role dropped, your still out there working to save the universe like we are" Lance said, gesturing his arm as he talked.

"You don't understand Lance. I was kicked from the team, red chose you" Keith argued, but Lance was quick to object. "No, Black chose you and you ran away from us Keith. You ran away." Lance stated, and Keith could almost see the hurt on his face. "You ran away the moment Shiro showed up, and you left us with an untrained paladin and a broken team" Lance said.

"Allura was fine Lance" Keith said, but Lance cut him off again. "This isn't about Allura. This is about you being a weak leader and letting everyone down" Lance said, standing up, but Keith also wasn't having it. "I'm not a leader Lance! I ran away because I knew I couldn't lead! I'd let you down either way" He said, standing up as well.

Lance stood there, not saying anything. He laid off before he would say something hurtful, already know Keith was showing enough vulnerability as it is. He took a deep breath and sat down. "Feel better?" He asked the other and Keith just sighed. The raven haired sat back down next to him and stared at the wall.

"Hey" Lance said, trying to keep his voice soft, while placing his hand over Keith's, "If you felt like you couldn't lead, it was ok to not" he said, and Keith just adverted his eyes to the ground. "I'm sorry I said you ran away, if it was what you thought would be best, you chose that decision as a leader to step down" Lance said, looking down at their hands and squeezing Keith's hand, "You made the best decision for the team, I would do the same thing". Keith looked up at him quickly, and Lance looked up to catch his eye.

"Really?" Keith asked, and Lance just looked away and nodded his head. "I may say I want to lead, but deep down I know I wouldn't be the best leader" Lance said, giving a light laugh after, and Keith couldn't help but smile.

Keith looked down at their hands, trying to hide the smile just in case Lance looked back at him. He stared at Lance's hand on top of his for a while, before he moved it and intertwined their fingers. He saw Lance's head turn to him in his peripheral vision and he looked up to make eye contact with him.

Eye contact was never broken as they stared at each other, and Keith's heart was the only thing he could hear. He slowly, to make sure Lance wouldn't jerk away, moved his hand to the other boy's face. Lance didn't stop him and let Keith hold the side of his face, he even leaned his head sideways into the hand.

Keith looked down at Lance's lips for a moment, then back to his eyes, and Lance got the hint almost admittedly as he faintly nodded. Oh god he looked so good in Keith's eye, it was almost unbearable.

He took no time to lean in and close his eyes. His heart skipped a beat when their lips connected for a soft kiss. It was probably something they both needed right now, but definitely something that shouldn't be happening in this moment in time, but that didn't stop them from relaxing even if it was just for a few more minutes.

Lance pulled away first, and Keith watched as his eyes slowly opened back up. Lance smiled softly, but Keith still couldn't help but have negative thoughts.

"We shouldn't have done that" He said, but Lance's smile didn't budge, he just smoothed out Keith's hair with his other hand. "I think otherwise" Lance stated, "You deserve some relaxing", and he gave Keith a small peck. "Kissing isn't relaxing". "It is now".

Keith just sighed and accepted the few more kisses Lance gave him. He could deal with the regret tomorrow, it was his day off today after all.

Though the next day, even after all the love and affection Lance had given him before he fell asleep (after their loving kisses), Keith had come to regret every decision he had made the night before. He didn't even know what the kisses could mean for their relationship, and if it would be ruined or not.

Though, he felt way better after talking to someone other than Shiro. So, even if he came to regret it, he felt better in the end.

((Pretty abrupt way to end this, but whatever. I was thinking of a part 2 of when Keith comes back to start and lead Voltron and how Lance and Keith's relationship is awkward but they peace it back together eventually, but that is very unlikely-

If there's any specific early chapters you want to be rewritten the most, comment and if more the one person agrees on the rewrite than I'll see what I can do about it. But other than that, have a night rest of your day <3
