Beach (Mythical AU) Part 1
((This ones a bit of a short one, since I didn't know exactly what to write, but I already have an idea for the second part))
Living by an ocean isn't the easiest thing, especially for Keith. He hates the water, and hates getting his feathers wet, but he can enjoy how beautiful it is, along with all the beautiful creatures that live inside it. Mermaids for example; they're probably one of the most beautiful sea creature that are out there, or just from what Keith's seen. But just because they have the beauty to almost match up with Aphrodite, doesn't mean Keith fully liked them. Infact, mermaids were one of the few creatures that he disliked, due to their very flirtatious personalities. Even though he can appreciate complements from them every once and while (especially from the male ones), it gets annoying every time he just wants to sit on the beach sand and enjoy the way the ocean flipped and turned into small waves. So, you can probably imagine what's it's like for Keith, who lives alone, on a cliff, just right above a sandy beach spot that mermaids love to be at.
Not easy, I'd say.
He doesn't hate it there, he just wishes that he'd gotten a place a little bit further away from mermaid territory, or just the ocean in general. But this was the only place he had enough space to stretch his wings and fly around without being judged by society, and the house was really nice for what's he paying for. He avoids the beach most of the time anyways, only ever going if he knows that it won't be that crowded, so I guess he couldn't complain that much.
Today, when he decided it might just be time to go back down to the beach, he was surprised to see only six or seven mermaids, all in the ocean. They looked like a family, all the little ones were playing with a crab, throwing it back and forth, while what seemed to be the adults were either standing by and watching or swimming around and talking with each other. That was a nice surprise, mainly cause Keith now had the beach to himself, and all the mermaids here were family, so hopefully that meant one of them won't try to come and talk to him.
He sat on the far end of the beach, where he had some shade. This was his favorite spot, cause where he sat, he had a perfect few of the ocean, without being too close or too far, but mostly cause of the shade. He watched as the family moved around the ocean, splashing around and laughing, like families he saw on television. They seemed so happy.
Keith suddenly heard a huge splash near him, and he saw one of the mermaids emerge onto one of the big rocks near the shore. It seemed to be a male, who had seaweed wrapped around his tail, along with some seaweed that was probably unintentionally stuck in his hair. His tail was almost as blue as a clear ocean, the seaweed somehow complementing the color and shape of it. The mermaid didn't seem to notice him, so Keith quickly got up and started to walk away, hoping to go unnoticed.
"Hey mullet!" Keith heard a voice say just as he was about to leave. It belonged to the mermaid that was sitting on the rock, who was staring at him now, which surprised Keith, as a mermaid has never insulted his hair before. He just tried to pretend not to hear him, and tried to walk off again, only to be called out at the same time. He sighed and turned around and headed towards the rock, luckily, it wasn't to far into the water, and it only went up to his knees.
"What do you want?" Keith said, crossing his arms. Now being closer to the mermaid, he could see more of his aspects. He had blue eyes, and blue markings on his face, along with markings gliding along his arms as well. He seemed to have scales for ears, along with very faint freckles that was mostly on his face, and some on his neck. He had very few scales (that looked like the one on his tail) on his shoulders, that probably led onto his back, and the scales from his tail seemed to go away at his abdomen.
"Birdbrains never really live around here," He said, swaying his tail slightly, "But your kind of cute" he said with a smirk. Well there goes the so little respect that Keith had for this guy for not flirting with him the moment they made eye contact. Why are mermaids flirtatious anyways? Keith was pretty sure they didn't have any reproduction parts to use, and just laid eggs like normal fish did. Or did they....? Looking into it would technically be merfolk pornography, and he didn't want that.
"I don't have time for this" He said, going to turn around. He felt something tug on his left wing, and he quickly pulled his wing away. The mermaid had grabbed him and had gotten a part of his wing wet. Wet. Probably the worst thing a mermaid could do to him.
"Don't touch my wing" He said quickly, practically snapping at the poor guy. He moved his hand over the dampened feathers, trying to dry them manually. If he had gotten his wings anymore wet than they were, he probably would have to blow dry them, before it air-dried and ruined his feathers.
The mermaid smiled as Keith ruffled his wings, and he leaned down off the rock, and let his hand slip into the water. In a quick moment, he had splashed Keith, unluckily missing his wing. He watched as Keith's eyes grew in shock as he looked down at his now wet shirt. He tried rubbing it off, even though that wouldn't have worked in the first place. Keith glared at the mermaid moments after, very irritated at the moment.
He jerked his wing, and hit the mermaid straight off the rock, knocking him further into the ocean, making him disappear into the water. He quickly reappeared and rubbed his head, the side that didn't have seaweed in it. One of the other mermaids called his name, which Keith didn't get (which he didn't want to anyways), and the mermaid quickly turned his head to looked over at the now gathered mermaids, who were swimming further into the ocean. The mermaid moved to follow, but stopped, and turned back to Keith. He flipped him off, before swimming away, and disappearing with the rest of his (what seemed to be) family.
Keith just sighed in annoyance and got out of the water. He had the whole beach to himself now, but he didn't feel like hanging out on it anymore. He walked towards his home, not knowing what he was going to next, but only knowing he was going to tell Shiro about this the next time he visited

Lance sat on his bedding, in his room that was far into his family's coral cave. Today had been... eventful? It wasn't everyday that Lance had gotten to meet someone new. His family usually only ever goes to shore if they know that it's an event where all the merfolk will be somewhere and busy, so that they are the only at the beach. Its only once in a blue moon that someone's there, and today had been that lucky day.
His family barely noticed someone was there though, so he had decided to go say hi, but that interaction didn't really, go well. Lance didn't know that bird-folk could be so rude, though the mean look and crossing arms stance should have been a red flag. Plus, the ugly mullet, it looked like straight up bedhead. But everything else was fine about that guy.
Being that close to someone part of the bird-folk, Lance had noticed some things that his kind didn't mention when they talk about avians. Like, how the wings were way bigger than described, as they were described as 'the size of from your shoulder to your elbow', but that guys wings were bigger than Lance's whole arm. They were shaped and designed like a bird Lance saw flying over the ocean every once and while. He had this certain shade of purple eyes that Lance has never seen, while the pupils were silted, like a real bird's would, or was that cats? Anyways, his nails were long, and pointy, it would've looked like normal nails if it didn't seem to naturally fade into a black color. And he had this cool scare on his face, wonder where it was from though.
He seemed so perfect, and just Lance's type. It had to be fate, it just had to be.
"Lance! Mom needs you!" Came a voice down the path from Lance's room. He sighed loudly, as he was snapped from his thoughts by his annoying sister. He got off his bedding and moved to were the voice was coming from.
