21.A Truth.
Mia was really confused.
She didn't exactly understand the words coming out of the pretty boy's mouth the minute he had talked to her,or their meaning.
What exactly was she supposed to know? What possible secret could he have that she hasn't dug up yet? I mean, most people would call her horrible for it, but she probably knew Jace's life in and out, with or without his consent.
So it was natural that she was a bit shocked that there was something that she actually didn't know about him, something close to him.
Or should I say someone.
Now as she stood at the foot of Mary Falcon's hospital bed staring straight at the pale, sickly woman with a contrasting bright smile in her face directed towards her, she realised she might have missed some slight details.
"Mia, "Jace sighed, "Meet my mom, Mary. Mom, This is Mia, my.. Uh... business associate."
He scratched his neck awkwardly.
How he would have liked to change that title to potential future wife.
Not that he'd really thought about it.
"Nice to meet you, Mrs Falcon. "Mia said a little timidly, her mind worn out from the day's ups and downs.
"Nice to meet you too Mia."Mary replied, the smile still stuck to her face, and turned towards Jace.
"So, my son, tell me, do you always take all your business associates to visit my little pretty flower shop? "
Jace's mouth hang open, but Mary wasn't done yet.
"Or do you always take them to meet your mother.. "
Mia was a little bit surprised by the response Mary was having, and she even came close to concluding that Mary was a branch off the I'm-A-Terrible-Falcon tree, but when she burst out laughing and she realised she had meant it as a joke, her heart eased a little.
She was honestly a little tired of dealing with all these tough Falcons.
"Mom. "Jace eyed his mother.
He had been so skeptical about bringing Mia to meet his mother, this had been a secret he had sworn to keep away from everyone, and apart from his little inner circle, no one else knew about his mother's illness or the fact that she was spending her days in an utmost care hospital-but don't call it a hospice.
In fact, the only person who knew about her exact whereabouts was Jack, since not even his dad cared enough about his wife to want to know more about how she's doing.
This had been a bold move on his part, and he was hoping Mia would trust him too enough to let him into whatever secrets she was hiding-whatever Mandi had been going on about.
"I'm sorry I didn't bring you some fresh flowers mom, I was kind of in a hurry."Jace said, remembering the fact that he did not bring his mom the fresh flowers from her shop that she insisted he bring everytime he came to visit, since he had just come out of a meeting.
"Oh, that's okay. You brought a flower alright. "His mom winked at Mia, making Jace facepalm.
"Mom, seriously?"
Mia laughed.
"What? Can't a bedridden sick lady make a joke? "Mary waved him off.
She turned towards Mia.
"Tell me more about you, dear. "
Mia was a little taken aback.
I mean, her whole plan summarised had been to basically seduce, win over, conquer.
But meeting his sick mother? Not part of her plan.
She hated that for once since executing her plan, she was met with a complete surprise she was unprepared for, and she hated the fact that she was unprepared.
"I.. uhm..work with your son? "It came out more of a question, and she felt a blush creep up her cheeks from the way that Jace was looking at her, like he had just met a completely new Mia he never knew existed.
Mia wished Casey was here right now, besides, she was the parent-pro.
"I.. Uh.. "Mia stuttered, making Jace jump in to put her out of her misery.
"Come on, mom. Don't bug her. "He said, helping his mom ease down onto the bed and propping her up with pillows.
Mia knew that but the look of things, it was completely possible for her to lose her impression on Jace, which was the last thing she wanted to happen, so she had to do something.
"Uh.. Mrs Falcon-"
"Call me Mary, "She cut in, "I hate being associated with that name. "
Wow, that was a turn of events.
"Mary, "Mia smiled, "If you don't mind me asking, how is your treatment going? "
"Oh, it's going alright, I think. But of late, there's been this whole complications with the chemo room, sometimes that say that power is out, sometimes they say the doctor is absent-its so annoying because I want to get out of here as soon as I possibly can. "
"Mom, why didn't you tell me this was happening? "Jace asked, his face furrowing in concern, "And why are there power outages in a hospital? Aren't they supposed to have back up generators and everything? Do they realise a power outage of just five minutes could lead to tons of deaths? "
Mrs Falcon smiled.
"See, Jace, this is exactly why I didn't want to say anything, you worry too much. Besides, it's not like that's entirely true, I don't think there are any power outages, just a big fight within management. So they're putting our lives at risk to save their jobs. "
Mia shook her head in irritation, was she paying a ton of useless people who didn't know the importance of their jobs? What if this happened to her dad?
That was it. She was going to have a long chat with the management board.
"Oh, don't worry Mrs-I mean Mary. That won't be happening anymore. "Mia jumped in, making them turn to her.
They were obviously waiting for an explanation, but since she didn't want to risk her exposure, she had nothing to say except, "Just trust me. "
Jace smiled at her, like he knew exactly was she was talking about, which made her a tad uncomfortable.
"I think I better leave, "she stood up awkwardly, "You two should have some time alone. I hope you get better Mary. "

Casey was tired of working all day and waiting for Mia to show up and tell her how things went today.
It had been almost six hours since she had sent her off to
She had called her at least thirty times without an answer, then texted her like fifty-four times.
She was really starting to freak out, especially when she walked into her condo to find her invisibly-written diary sprawled on her glorious white couch.
Wherever the hell she had gone, she had a lot of explaining to do, and an award-winning tongue-lash waiting for her.
Finally, she decided if she sat in that condo for one more minute, she was gonna drive herself nuts with worry. So in a bid to save herself and her energy for scolding Mia later, she decided to hit the posh new hotel, silverstone and have her dinner.
Besides, by the looks of it, Mia wasn't showing up anytime soon.
She decided the little white dress paired up with a blue blazer was good enough to go and grabbed her keys.
Her drive there was uneventful, that is if you didn't count the abusive taxi driver to her left.
The minute she walked into that restaurant with its luxurious white seats and tables, fancy lighting and soft music drifting towards her ears, her mind eased two notches down.
This was definitely a place to come back to, she made a mental note, perhaps with Mia.
Oh no-she was thinking about her again.
Deciding it was probably futile to try not to worry her mind away, she shrugged and opted for a seat by the large screen window overlooking the pool, away from the soft buzz and chatter of peeps.
As she eased down to her seat, which her butt thanked by the way, a hot tattooed waiter brought her the menu with a flirtatious smile lingering on his lips.
She smiled back, maybe in an attempt to flirt her worries away, she honestly didn't know.
She decided food would probably solve the entire problem and began looking at appetizers that were way overpriced but sounded absolutely appetizing.
Just as she was about to make her order, she caught sight of someone waving at her from the corner of her eyes.
Before her zombie-like state could fathom what was happening, a figure plopped down on the opposite seat, a brightly annoying grin on its face.
And just like that, her night become seven times more depressing.
