EIGHT.

EIGHT

Simon Minter headed onto the school grounds late, he was later than usual and the evidence was written across his face- a fresh black eye and a busted up lip. The reason this time? Simon had dyed his hair red after losing a bet with Josh and Cal. His father hadn't taken the red hair well and punched him straight in the face, causing a bruise around his eye and a cut, puffed up lip.

He stalked along the empty corridors of the school, fixing his tie a little as he reached the classroom. He knocked on the door before entering and the teacher looked at him with horror.

"Simon, what happened to your face? Is this the work of another fight?" Miss Derby asked and Simon just shrugged and walked to the back of the classroom, he took his seat beside Josh who gave his friend a sympathetic smile.

"Guess what?" Josh says and Simon looks round at him.

"What?" He asks in reply and Josh smiles and takes a piece of paper from his backpack and slides it over towards Simon.

Simon reads over the handwritten note and a small smile spreads across his lips.

"Where did you find this?" He asks and Josh smiles.

"It must have fell out of your locker, I saw it on the floor and happened to notice the loopy hand-written 'simon' on the side," Josh says and Simon nods.

The lesson flies by, and every few seconds Simon wonders if the note is genuine, or if it was even serious. As soon as the class is dismissed Simon and Josh leave and Simon tells Josh he's going to do at the note says. Josh nods and walks off to find Cal.

Simon heads towards the main hall where the stage was that hosted various drama productions throughout the year. Drama was always a favourite lesson of Simon's, purely because he didn't have to do much in it.

He walked up to the stage and jumped up onto it, glancing round to see if she was already here.

"Simon?" He hears and he spins round and sees her, her brown hair was pulled back into a stylish albeit messy bun, her uniform was crisp and clean and she smiled when his eyes met hers.

"Hey Cleo," He says and she walks over to him.

Simon leans over and helps Cleo onto the stage.

"Your eye," She says automatically, she hadn't noticed it when approaching, but when he was stood in front of her as he was it was obvious.

"Do I have to explain for you?" He asks and Cleo shakes her head.

"Its okay," She says and Simon sighs deeply.

"I lost a bet by the way, I had to dye my hair red," Simon says, pointing at his hair.

"I think it suits you," She smiles and Simon laughs.

"Its also the reason I got this," He points to the black eye then.

"Oh...I'm sorry Simon," She whispers and Simon shakes his head.

"Its fine," He says, her eyes show how worried she is about him, "Honestly, Cleo,"

"Hmm, okay," Cleo mutters, shrugging lightly and she looks around at the set the drama club had created for the latest production- Romeo & Juliet.

"You're good at drama, you should do the production," Cleo suggests and Simon chuckles lightly.

"And risk my dad finding out?" Simon says and Cleo looks down at her feet.

"You should tell someone about it," Cleo says and Simon shakes his head.

"I can't, he'd just come after me," Simon replies, "How's your brother anyway?"

"He's good, his apprenticeship isn't exactly what he thought it would be, but he's okay, I know he misses you and the other boys though," Cleo explains and Simon smiles.

"I miss him, he was a good friend, and as much as he pretends to hate you, he loves you, I hope you know that," Simon says and Cleo's lips form a smile.

"Thank you Simon," Cleo says and Simon smiles.

A few seconds of silence follow and then Simon moved forwards, he takes her hand and she glances up at him, he was watching her every move. He lifts his other hand to her cheek and tilts her chin to look up at him properly. She offers him another smile and he finally leans closer, the gap between them finally becoming nonexistent and their lips press against each other. Cleo's head was whirling, her first kiss was happening before her very eyes, she hardly had time to register the sensation she felt- the tug on her heart and the goosebumps that rippled across her skin. Her first kiss, and with none other than Simon Minter.

They moved apart and Simon gave Cleo a goofy smile as the blush spread across his cheeks.

"Sorry about that, it was a fast decision, but it was something I've wanted to do for awhile," He admits, rubbing his hand on the nape of his neck.

"No, it was...great...I wanted to too," She admits and Simon smiles down at her.

"I guess we'd better get to class huh?" Simon asks and Cleo nods and smiles.

The two walk side by side out of the main hall, the note Cleo had left Simon tucked away safely in his pocket. They walked closely, and people noticed, people whispered to each other as they walked along the corridors and arrived at Cleo's lesson.

"I'll see you later- how about we go for a milkshake after school?" Simon asks, his cheeks burning red again.

"Sure, that sounds great," Cleo smiles and her eyes meet the boys eyes that were behind Simon- it was Olajide.

"Hey Cleo," JJ says, glancing at Simon as he did so, "This prick giving you trouble?"

"No, no he wasn't," Cleo says, "He was asking about the library,"

"Yeah, yeah, thanks for that," Simon says, her eyes and his meeting for a brief moment before Simon turned and made his way in the direction of the library, which was in the general direction of his next lesson anyway.

"You sure he wasn't giving you shit?" JJ asks when the taller blonde has left.

"No, he wasn't, if I was I would have said, I swear," Cleo smiles at JJ and eventually Joel, Chip, Tobi and Vik all arrive too- they all shared this lesson.

Joel sat beside Chip, Tobi beside Vik and finally Cleo with JJ. The conversations consisted of the lessons topic and some brief mentioning of after school clubs or hanging out.

"Hey Cleo, fancy coming with us to grab an ice cream or something?" Vik asks and Cleo gulps and glances from Vik to JJ who looked just as expectant.

"I'm busy actually, maybe another time," She says quickly and Vik and JJ share a worried look before continuing their previous conversation about some next video game.

Cleo sat mostly in silence, having the occasional input to the chat but that was it. Her head was running over the events of the break time meet up with Simon, how he held her hand and how his fingers danced across her cheek- it felt like he was setting her on fire or something, it ignited those feelings she'd had deep down in her heart and now all she wanted was more Simon. She knew it was dangerous, potentially lethal. The lion had already fallen for the lamb, now it was time for her to fall for him, it was time for someone so innocent to fall for someone so lethal.
