I
We're in different times now, things happen that are crazy and out of the ordinary. How can the law enforcement just let everything slide? Oh.. I know.. because of the Mob, or better known as the Mafia.
The Mafia is a horrible organization made by the worst people in each country. Of course, they started in Italy and America, but oh, how it's expanded. Currently, the one in my country is the worst. They're very strict, they don't get their money? Ha, there's no use in hiding. Unless you dig yourself a house in the core of the earth. But honestly, even then, they'd find you.
--
I stare at my dad as he struggles to eat his breakfast. "Dad, can't you just tell us what's going on?" He looks up and frowns. His thick, unkempt eyebrows, knit together. I've been having high suspicions on what it could be about, it's the Thailand Mafia obviously.
My father is honestly the most uneducated person I know. He's so stupid, he literally wanted to join the T.M. Luckily the head of the group said that his record was way too clean, they want people who have actually murdered families and robbed banks. But they love the people who smuggle drugs and have connections, cause it means what? It means more of the green. Money.
But even though he told my dad that he wouldn't be accepting him into the Mafia, he refused to not be in the group. He decided to borrow money, then join. Idiot. "The Mob doesn't concern you what so ever. What I do, shouldn't be your business." He says sternly. I frown, now he's just playing stupid.
"Dad, if you do something bad, mom and I can be in danger. The Mob doesn't mess around, especially not the type you're associated with. And especially when it has to do with money." I tell him.
"Lalisa, shut your mouth before I shut it for you. You shouldn't be talking about things you don't understand." He says, but I continue anyway. "Things I don't understand? I know for a fact that whomever you have deals with and what not, he won't let things slide so easily." I explain. "Shut up." He whispers as he stabs his fork into his food, the utensil making a streaking sound. The kind of sound that makes you cringe. "You're going to get us killed, our blood will be on your hands, and you'll pay for it," I tell him.
He throws his plate at me, causing all his food to smother my clothes, was this the best he could do? He stands up with an extremely mad expression on his face. "Don't you think I FUCKEN know that!? I'm not stupid Lalisa!" He yells then stomps out of the kitchen. "Oh.. Honey.." I hear my mom say as she walks over to me from the stove.
She had been there watching, she's been too scared lately to stand up for herself or for me. I guess that tells you something. She frowns as she begins to clean me up, I help her by placing the food on the plate that now sat on the table.
I look at her, her dark brown hair is slowly becoming gray from the roots. She looks exhausted, the bags under her eyes have become dark and saggy. Maybe because since my dad started hiding his business with the Thailand Mafia from us, she hasn't been able to sleep well. I haven't either. "Mom. Why can't we just leave dad?" I ask. She looks at me horrified.
"No! You know we can't! How dare you ask me that!? Do you want us killed?! And even if we did leave, they would still come and look for us." She yells stepping away from me. I see her trembling in fear, I hate seeing her this way.
She was screaming hysterically, like she couldn't control her body to the thought of the Mafia, of us leaving my father. It isn't my mother's fault that she's like this. It's my dad's fault, he's made us mentally unstable. Though I'm much stronger than my mother, I hate how she is through all this.
I want her to be how she was before all of this happened, the woman who made me smile every morning. Who lived for everything and gave me motivational speeches when I was down. I don't want her to be this woman who's scared to go anywhere without my dad, in fear of her being kidnapped or jumped, even raped. Who only depends on my father for everything and doesn't make her own choices anymore.
The Thailand Mafia has ruined my life and this is why I promise myself that when I get my career going. I'm taking my mom with me, that's why I haven't left this horrible house... I can't leave her. Whenever I go out to run errands, one of the Mafia members watches me. How is that okay? I know for a fact that my dad is hiding something from me... From my mom. I just have a feeling.
It's a feeling in the pit of my stomach, telling me that something is wrong. It's written all over his face, my father wasn't always like this. He used to be loving. Not abusive.
It was the T.M, it was the Mobs fault. I can't stress it enough. My father used to be loving, caring, an actual father. But once he shook hands with the devil himself, I knew things would turn for the worse. And I was right. Does my father care? Does he care that he was putting us in danger? Does he care that possibly, one of these days, I could be gone. My mother could be gone. The Mob can do anything to my mother and me if my father doesn't resolve the problem that he's caused.
**
I lay in my bed and play with my phone, tapping the screen so that the stupid bird won't run into the tubes that stick out from the sky and ground for some apparent reason. I never really got the whole... purpose of this game. I then hear yelling downstairs, making me flinch. "No! How dare you! How fucking dare you!?" I hear my dad. "You're not only putting yourself in danger but Lalisa and me! How is that fair!?" My mom screams back.
I turn off my phone and sit up. "Fuck you, Martha. You don't know what you're saying!" He yells. "Oh!!!" My mom chuckles loudly, complete sarcasm roofed her throat. "Because Chuan Juntasa is really going to let you get away with the huge debt that you have with him." She states. There's a second of silence, I take the moment to breathe and process what my mother had just said. My feeling was right, my dad was hiding something from us.
And it's the worst kind... Debt. You never, never have debt with the Mafia of any sort. It's just a well-known rule, a rule my father is obviously not following. If you don't pay them back, it all resolves in death or torture. "What!?" My dad raises his voice, and I swear I can feel the house shake. "You think I'm stupid!? I fucken know, Lee. I fucken know about your stupid choices!" She screams. "You stupid BITCH! You think you're so smart!!" I hear glass crashing and furniture getting tossed.
"I'm smarter than you! Even I would know better to never borrow money from a Mob. Let alone join one, you're so stupid." She states strongly. "Say it again.. Call me stupid one more time." His voice piercing through the cracks in the wood floors, making the bottom of my shoes vibrate. This isn't the first time my parents have had a fight. But it is the first time that they fought about this kind of problem, surprising.
And it is definitely not the first time that my dad would set a hand on my mother, let alone... Me. "YOU'RE STUPID LEE!!" my mom screams.
I then hear a loud slap and I shoot off my bed when I hear a thud, indicating that my mom hit the ground harshly. I sprint out of my room and downstairs. "Dad!" I scream pushing him, barely making him move. I rush over to my mom and help her up. "How dare you!? You're a monster!!" I scream with tears in my eyes, as I look down at my mom who's knocked out unconscious.
"You're just like your mother, making assumptions that I do things. She just fell." He says as he sits down at the kitchen table and watches me hold onto my mother, helplessly. As if mocking me for being weak or something. "I'm not stupid dad! I could hear you from upstairs! You hit her!" I yell, the sobs making my voice shake. He just stares at me for a long time. "Can you shut the FUCK up? And mind your own damn business?" He throws me a demonic glare.
"No, I'm not going to shut up because you know what dad!?" I start to get up from the floor, setting my mother against the bottom cabinets carefully, giving her support. "You know what!?" I scream I can feel my vocal chords burning from my high volume and from the number of emotions soaring up inside them. "FUCK YOU DAD!" I stick both middle fingers up at him. He shows a speck of shock, then he goes back to his mad state. "How dare you do that to me!? I'm your father." He shouts.
I laugh rudely,"OH YES!!! Because being a father means yelling and beating his family. Is that what a father is supposed to be?!" I notice my mom beginning to wake up and she looks at me, I help her stand.
"I'm the man of the house." He states. I laugh again, but this time it almost leaves my lips in a hysterical manner. "The man of the house never sets his hands on a woman, that makes him less of a man and more of a coward." I pause letting my words sink in.
"You think it makes you look strong but it shames you so that you look weak. And you're not a man because a man should never run away from his problems. And a man should never let his family feel in danger, let alone put his family in danger." I pause again, his face only twisted with more anger.
"I'm so ashamed that you're my father, you're just a woman beater and an invaluable pessimistic bastard." I finish, feeling fierce as hell. I help my mom over to the stairs so that I can take her to her room. "Bad things will happen to you for talking to your father that way." Is all he says, I know he's shocked by my words. "Oh boo hoo, shove it up your ass," I say before we leave his sight.
I've never told him that in my life, let alone talk to him like that. But it kind of felt great.

Unknown POV
An unknown individual sits outside of the Manoban household in a black BMW.
I look down at her profile.

I'm unable to look away from her face, her clueless face. I've memorized everything about her, I have to. Not that there's much for me to memorize. I let out a breath and set her file on the passenger seat. Looking out to the house for a while, waiting for some sort of movement. I feel my phone lightly vibrate in my pocket, I take it out and answer it without having to look at the name. "Are you there, or are you making your way over there?" He asks.
"No, yes... I'm here." I say through my phone, slowly turning off my car so I won't be seen as suspicious. "Do you have the girl?" He asks. I watch the lights from inside of the house flick off, except her room. "No," I say clearly. "What the fuck are you waiting for?" He raises his voice. "I told you I'm waiting for the right time!" I whisper in an angry tone. "What? You want me just to kidnap her? I have to wait for an appropriate opportunity." He lets out a breath.
"You're right." It's silent for a while. "Well, you better get her before they do. I'm telling you K. if they get her before you do... She's a goner." His voice softens. "I know," I say biting the inside of my cheek. "Are you at least going to make sure she's in bed?" He asks. I chuckle silently. "I always do." I take my keys out of the ignition. Looking down the empty streets and sidewalks, making sure there was no one in sight.
"Okay. Remember. She's your responsibility. If anything happens to her. It's on your head. You know that?" Like I didn't already know, I let out a breath. "I know." He's silent for a while. "You know they're coming... And if they come unexpectedly. You're fucked K." he states. He's saying all these things I already know, but he was my boss, and I have to listen to him regardless.
"Take care K. I know you'll keep her safe. You know where the safe house is when you need it, and where I'm at if you need me.", "Sehun... I know." He lets out a breath. "What did I tell you about using my real name!? There can be people listening to you idiot." He screams like a child and I laugh. "Yah yah, I'll call you when I have her." He lets out a breath, accepting that what's done is done. "Okay... Keep safe K." He says. "You know I always am." He hangs up. I leave my phone in the glove compartment. I get out of the car and head to the house.
I peek inside to make sure everyone is sleeping. All the lights are off downstairs, giving me better cover to walk in and be unseen. I walk over to the front door and pull out my device. I press it against the wooden door and it unlocks. I cautiously walk into the house, looking around with careful eyes. I lock the door again, wearing my leather gloves, not leaving any trace that I'm here. I take out my small sticky cameras and place them around the room in good angles.
When Chuan Juntasa arrives, I want to be able to see everything so that I'm on time with saving her. I can't risk her being taken or killed.
I make my way up the stairs. I hear a door open and creaking coming from the second floor. I take a step back, setting my foot exactly where it was before and quietly go under the stairs where I've hidden numerous times. I hear mumbling. "F..ken... Leave... So.." I see her father. Lee Manoban, the main target of the Thailand Mafia. And he has a duffle bag in his hand, he's not doing what I think he's doing. "I won't be here when they come... They won't find me." He says over and over again.
I watch him walk over to the key rack and he gets his car keys. "Let's see how well they survive when the Mob comes." He walks over to the door and unlocks it, walking out without looking back. I shake my head in disappointment. I urged to beat him up, maybe even kill him for walking out on his family, but that isn't my mission. I wait until I hear the car start and speed off into the night. I continue my task.
I place a little camera in the corner of the wall above the staircase. I successfully make my way up to the second floor. I hear rustling and I stop. I pull on my hood and bring it over my face. I see a light coming from her room, she's still up? I take a step closer, my eyes alert. My ears listening, my feet trying to be mute. I quickly and quietly walk over to her mother's room and look inside. She's asleep, completely unaware that her asshole of a husband left them for dead.
I close the door quietly, I walk back over to her room. I look through the crack of the opened door. She's on her phone, she's wearing her earphones. Also unaware of her father's whereabouts.

Lalisa's POV
I lay back in my bed and listen to my music. That is my escape from my horrible life. I have to get out of here and take my mom with me. I wouldn't leave without her. Never. I feel this sensation it the back of my neck. I look up, then quickly turn in bed. I shrug it off and trying my best to go to sleep, much too lazy to turn off the light.
I avert my eyes to the window, looking out to the moon that was forever a mystery to me. I begin to wonder how great life would be if I lived on the moon. With not a worry in the world, no Mob. I let out a breath and slowly begin to fall asleep.
**
Unknown POV
I cautiously walk into her room, taking small steps towards her bed. I can see her peacefully breathing, she's definitely asleep. I walk over to see her face, and as expected, she's asleep. I sit on the edge of her bed for a while, looking up at the moon.
What a crazy world we live in, where sick people roam. And people like me have to put an end to them, and people like me have to protect people here. I begin to realize that there must be a reason Lee left specifically tonight, why he said those words. I shake my head, I get up from the bed and walk out of her room. I turn off the light like I always do for her.
I cautiously walk down the stairs pulling out my tablet. I wave my hand in front of each small camera, activating them. This time I walk out of the back door, you never go out the way you came. I head out of the house, using my device to lock the door. I make it back to my car and pull out my phone, starting up my car and driving towards my hideout.
"Hello." He answers. "Cameras are set up and the family is secure for the night," I explain as my call goes to hands-free. "Where's Lee?" He asks. I clear my throat. "He's fled the premises," I say. I hear him cussing. "We'll get a search team out to find him. He couldn't have gone far, and we'll turn him into Chaun." He says. I nod in agreement as if he could see me. "They're coming tomorrow I assume." He says.
"Yes, sir," I reply pulling into the driveway of a former employee, he let me crash in his basement until the case took its course. Of course, promising that he and his family were out of harm. "Will you need back up?" He asks. I chuckle at his absurd question. "Do I ever need back up?" I ask. "Don't get so cocky now." He says. I get out of the car and press my phone against my ear.
"I'm good, it'll be a swipe and go scenario. There's no need to worry." I explain quietly as I made my way into the house. "Fine. I'll make sure to get reinforcements at the safe house if you need it." I shake my head. "Won't be necessary. Just make sure that this time there's people at the gate leaving Thailand, I don't need to spend an hour on a fucken dirt road." I say walking into the basement.
"Okay, everything will be in access for you." He says. "Bye," I say and hang up the phone. "Case starts tomorrow." I hear behind me, I don't flinch. I knew he was there, the floor creaked. "Yes." Is all I say, I don't turn to look at him. Instead, I walk over to my briefcase and make sure my guns are loaded, just in case.
"Namjoon. Maybe you could-", "Choi, Lalisa is the only target for my case. I can't go around and be a hero, it doesn't work that way. Saving everyone isn't the mission." I say getting my guns polished. "Just call me Seunghyun, I'm not part of WPP anymore." He says, walking over to the other side of the table I'm using. I let out a breath. "I know, but you were next in line for command," I say. He sits down, watching me Polish my guns.
"But that life isn't for me." He says. I look up at him. He's still young, 29. Well, kind of. And all because he fell in love with the girl he had to save. Not just that, it's against the rules. "You can still come back you know," I say. He shakes his head. "A wife and three kids, I can't risk that." I shake my head. "You were the best.. you know that." He shrugs. "Now you are." He says.
I look down at my polished guns, pulling out my clothes for tomorrow. "You don't miss it.." I say, he bites on his lip. I can tell he does, but the word family held him back from admitting it. That's why it's easy for me, I don't have any of that. He stands up. "Caren is making you a special breakfast." He says. I nod. "Thanks." Is all I say. He walks out of the basement, leaving me alone.
Once everything is prepared for tomorrow, I drop to my knees and begin to pray.
