12 • Familiarity Equals Hurt
Walking around trying to clear her mind, Nia bumped into a familiar chest that she hadn't felt for months. She cursed in her head as she slowly backed away. "I'm so sorry. I wasn't looking whe- Nia?" The brunette looked up. The familiar brown hair, the blue eyes, even his voice brought back memories from the past. Memories she had no intention of wanting to remember. It wasn't before he was reaching forward to hug her, that she reacted. "Don't." She stepped back and noticed that the brown haired boy wasn't alone.
"What are you guys doing here?"
"Mal ran away. We came to get her and bring her back to Auradon." You could hear the concern in the blue haired girl's voice. Mal and Evie were like sisters. They did everything together. There were a connection between the two that no one could understand.
Nia repeated the words in her head. We came to get her. It was clear to her who they cared about most. It was always clear to her. She was never the one who was picked first or liked the most in the group. In fact, Nia never felt like she belonged in the group. She cared about them all, but she never felt like she was worth anything to them. So of course she felt a bit hurt now. They came back for Mal and not for her. "Oh." The sadness in her voice was noticeable and something that you never heard from her. "I get it."
The group of four in front of her looked confused. The young king looked at her. "What do you mean?" Nia wanted to laugh at how confused they were. It was like they didn't have a clue. "Mal ran away. You came to get her. It's clear who you care about." With the last word said, the brunette walked past the group as they looked at each other. "Nia, wait!" The petite girl turned around. "No, I get it. Mal is your priority. She has and will always be your priority." Her words sunk into the heads of the four in the group.
Nia walked away as tears formed in her eyes. She was hurt and angry. She didn't know why she was angry. It was like something inside of her had snapped. Like a switch that had just been turned on.
When she got to her bedroom and closed her door, she finally snapped. Tears ran down the brunette's cheeks as she threw her stuff all over the place. Pictured broke as they fell on the floor, pillows were ripped apart. Her screaming could be hear miles away. She sat down at the floor sobbing as her door flew open. Footsteps approached her and she felt two strong arms being wrapped around her body. "It's going to be okay. It will be okay." His soft, Scottish voice was comforting to her as she sobbed into his warm chest.
His eyes flickered to a item on the ground as he held the brunette in his arms. There was a picture of her, Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos shredded to pieces.

They're on the Isle!
This was a very short chapter, but I felt like I had to post since I haven't done that in months. I'm trying to write more and fall back in love with it, since it's been so long.
Let me know what you thought about this chapter in the comments!!
