Chapter Fifty-Two: The Sacrifice

In the mystique blue light of the main chamber of Temple of Eclipse, shadows zoomed together in mid-air, forming tormented faces at first, then changing into the vague shape of a sword.

Shivam took the first steps toward it, followed by Arthur. He held the smoky, swirling grip of the sword in his right hand, and instantly, with a sharp CLANG, a shining sword of a lethal blade formed from the still swirling black smoke.

Shivam looked at everyone with scared eyes. Even Arthur looked more tense than usual. "It looks pretty ordi..." Shivam was saying, when more smoke and glowing bands of neon blue light surrounded him. The smoke mixed with the light as paint mixes with water, and together they formed what looked like the breastplate of an armour. With tremendous speed, the breastplate latched itself on Shivam's chest, forcing him to take a few steps backward. He was about to drop the Shadowblade when smoke-gauntlets banged on to his hands, and suddenly holding the sword became a lot easier. A plackart also appeared, fastening itself around the waist of Shivam.

Smoke began to rise in swirls from the Shadowblade, and Shivam's hand and hair began to emit blue light.

"This is SO INSANE!" Josh said, excited. Even Took began jumping up and down. Then the drum rolls began. Followed by a blood chilling growl that sounded disturbingly close.

"What was that?" Tiyasha asked.

"I don't care...this... I feel invincible...it feels so strong..." Shivam said, more to himself than to anyone else.

"Shivam let's leave this place..." Tiyasha insisted.

And then the werewolves marched into the chamber, blocking its entrance. Spear in hands, one of them came forward and pointed toward Josh.

"Wrigg Trut Stramnast Ukk," the Werewolf said.

"Move back," Shivam threatened, raising the most powerful Sword in the world.

"They won't move back. They have come for the sacrifice you must make," The Orb spoke again.

"Sacrifice? What sacrifice?" Shivam asked. How many werewolves were there? A hundred? Two hundred? They had completely surrounded them, it seemed, and were now closing in. The one who had spoken was still standing ahead of the rest, his fimger still pointing toward Josh.

"What sacrifice?" Shivam demanded again.

"The God of Darkness demands the blood of your youngest. The young boy must die," the Orb said.

"Good lord," Arthur muttered, taking out his knife.

Shivam charged at the leader of the Werewolves, swinging the Shadowblade, but when the blade of the Sword touched the neck of the unperturbed Werewolf, it turned into smoke again.

It went through the neck of the Werewolf like water through soil, without causing any harm.

"The sword won't work on the Temple Guards, you fool," the Orb said, annoyed.

The leader of the Werewolves gently pushed Shivam aside, as if bored with him.

"Urrt, Kurt treak Stramnast!" He said, and gestured the other werewolves to move towards Josh.

"Brother!" Josh said, panicked, as the monsters advanced, slow, teasing, deliberate.

Shivam tried to use his power of controlling animal minds, but failed. Tiyasha summoned the Skulls of Hecate, but they faded. Arthur tried desparately to kill the werewolves with his knife, but even that didn't work: no knife formed in the air in front of the one he held in his hand.

The werewolves began pulling Josh away. Josh looked at Shivam, eyes pleading, voice gone. Don't let me die here, those eyes said. Save me, big brother, those eyes said.

And Shivam just stood and looked helplessly as hideous creatures slowly pulled his brother away, the world's mightiest weapon still in his hand.

And then Took rose from the ground, beating his wings and trying to spit fire out of his mouth. But of course fire was prohibited in the Temple of Eclipse. Only darkness reigned here.

"WAIT!" Took screeched, and flew towards the Werewolves who were pulling Josh away.

"I BELONG TO THIS FAMILY TOO! I AM THE YOUNGEST! LIVE MY MASTER ALONE!" Took screamed.

The Werewolves stopped and looked at their leader, as if they understood what Took had said.

Their leader gave a nod.

The Werewolves immediately let Josh go and jumped on Took, holding themselves back no longer.

On the ashen floor, blood began to flow.
