Open The Portal
"So what was up with that Billy Mero Capper nickname?" Sunset asked. "Oh, that was something I improvised," admitted a sheepish Garrett, "if I used my real name in front of Principal Celestia, it would have aroused suspicion. But those three names are the names of three guys I knew when I was in prison."
"Were they nice?" Sunset asked. "Oh yeah, they were very nice," said Garrett, "they practically protected me from the horrors of the prison. As best they could. Capper, he's a cat, he was my cellmate. He was practically like the cool big brother. Billy, he was a blue beaver. He actually helped me learn reading, writing, math, history, and geography. Billy was my mentor and friend. And Mero, he was a big red dragon. He was a gentle giant who always protected me. All three of them were victims of bad luck like me. You'd like them." Sunset smiled a little and said, "I think I would. So I take it Princess Twilight told you what I've done?" Garrett nodded and said, "the whole nine yards. Warts and all." Sunset looked down in shame and asked, "you must think I'm a horrible person, right?"
Garrett thought of what to say, and he said, "I understand that you were consumed by hate and anger. Being pressured to be good enough, you wanted to prove that you were better than Princess Celestia and Princess Twilight. What you did to gain that power are actions I wouldn't condone. But I understand you want to atone for your sins, and I don't think you're a horrible person, Sunset. I hope you can forgive yourself as I forgive you." Sunset sniffled, smiling a little at her brother. "You really have grown up for the better Garrett," said Sunset, "but I just have one more question for you. If Princess Twilight sent you, why did she close the portal to this world?" Garrett gave a puzzled look and asked, "she did? That seems unlikely... Princess Twilight used a magical book to activate the Crystal Mirror. It seems unlikely she would intentionally deactivate it..."
"The statue was solid last I checked," said Sunset, "of course, I was angry at the time, and I wanted to confront Twilight because I assume she sent you to mock me. I was in a bad headspace..." Garrett got to the door and said, "we could double check for ourselves." He and Sunset hurried over to the statue outside the school, and Garrett touched the statue, expecting the portal to be open. It was solid instead. "There... There has to be a logical explanation for this," said Garrett, perplexed that the portal to Equestria would be closed. "Really? And what would that logical explanation be?" Sunset asked, trying not to be pessimistic. "What if somepony accidentally put the magical journal away deactivating the Crystal Mirror?" Garrett asked. "I do hope you're right," said Sunset. "I'm able to communicate with Twilight in my dreams," said Garrett, "that's how I've been able to update her about you. If anything, Princess Twilight was my rock throughout all this. Her words of encouragement kept me going." When Garrett said all that, he sounded like he was in love with Twilight. "Aww, is somepony in love?" Sunset slightly teased. Garrett blushed and asked, "is it that obvious I have feelings for her?"
"I think it's cute," said Sunset, "you have very good taste in mares. I suppose if you meditated, the dream spell could bring your astral form to Equestria speak to Twilight. I could help with that." Garrett shrugged and said, "I could work with that." Sunset wrapped her arm around Garrett and said, "Open your mind and focus on Twilight..." Garrett sat criss cross, and Sunset used her magic to help Garrett's astral form reach Equestria as he meditated. A couple minutes later, Garrett's spirit was in Equestria, next to Princess Twilight. The young alicorn gave a look of surprise and asked, "Garrett? Are you asleep? How did you get your astral form here?" Garrett shrugged and said, "Sunset helped me."
"That's impressive," said Twilight. "I know, right?" Garrett chuckled, "the reason I'm here is because Sunset stated that you closed the Crystal Mirror." Twilight's eyes widened in surprise and disbelief and she asked, "what?!?!? But I never deactivated the portal..." Garrett sighed, "and when we tried testing the statue, the portal was closed. I'm just hoping there's a logical explanation behind it..." Twilight looked at Garrett and said with genuine concern, "I swear, I never shut down the Crystal Mirror..." They wandered over to the Crystal Mirror and noticed Celestia's magic journal wasn't there. Twilight gave a look of shock and said, "impossible... I never put away the journal..." Garrett gave a puzzled look and asked, "well if you didn't, who did??" Suddenly, a young male voice asked, "Twilight? What's going on?" Twilight and Garrett turned around and they saw Twilight's assistant dragon Spike. The young dragon looked at Garrett and asked, "are you a ghost?"
"Not exactly," replied Garrett, "I'm just projecting my astral form here." Twilight looked at the young dragon and asked, "Spike... do you know what happened to the magical journal?"
"You mean the one that was lying next to the mirror?" Spike asked, "I thought it was a discarded book and I decided to put it away. Was it important?" Garrett nodded and said, "uh... yeah. That magical journal connects to the human world and it's the only thing that's able to keep the Crystal Mirror activated to open the portal." Spike gave a sheepish look and said, "oh gee, I didn't realize it was that important... I'm sorry guys, it was an honest mistake, I swear!" Twilight gave a forgiving smile and said, "it's okay Spike, you didn't know. Well Garrett, you can tell your sister what happened and assure her that the portal will be open in a few minutes." Garrett smiled and said, "thanks Twilight. Guess I'll see you in a few minutes." And Garrett's astral form then disappeared from Equestria.
