Not Worth A Beating

The next morning, Garrett woke up, yawning. Soon it was time for Fluttershy and Garrett to go to school. Garrett went to the entrance, going inside. He soon saw his sister Sunset walking into the school as well. Garrett wandered to her and said, "morning Sunset! How are you feeling today?" Sunset didn't answer. But Garrett could tell she was tired. Garrett gave a look of concern and asked, "are you okay? You look like you haven't gotten any sleep." Sunset looked at Garrett and replied, "you have no idea, Billy."

"You want to talk about it?" Garrett offered. "No. And even if I did want to talk about why I'm unable to sleep, why would you care?" Sunset cynically asked. "Well, I consider you my friend," defended Garrett, "and as your bro- I mean friend, I care about your well-being." Sunset scowled and grumbled, "whatever..." And after that, Garrett attended classes with Sunset, she was unaware that Garrett was attending every class with her. She was in too much of a depressive funk to notice the coincidental pattern. A couple hours later, lunch soon came. Beforehand, nobody ever wanted to sit with Sunset because they were angry at her. But here was Garrett sitting right next to her, eating a cheese pizza. He was quite enjoying the cheese pizza as anything at that point was better than the prison food. Meanwhile, Sunset was picking at her food. Then someone shouted out, "you aren't good enough for that!" Garrett frowned at that comment. "Yeah and you're making us uncomfortable by sitting here with that Andrew Garfield looking dope!" Another student commented. "Me, a dope?" Garrett asked incredulously, "don't listen to those people, Sunny. They're just being petty." Sunset put her lunch tray to the side and said "whatever. I've lost my appetite anyway..." She got up and left the cafeteria, Garrett rather offended by everyone's comments. This was his sister they were talking smack about.

Garrett left the cafeteria and followed Sunset. "Sunset, wait up!" Garrett said, catching up to her. "I'm not in the mood Billy," she said, her voice sounding tired and defeated, "and you don't have to stand up for me. You don't owe me anything..." Before Garrett could protest, someone pushed him to the side and said, "out of the way, idiot." Garrett glared at the rude person that shoved him without warning. The rude person and his friend were the human doppelgangers of Sombra and Tirek. "Hey! That was rude!" Garrett scolded, "you could have said excuse me." Sombra ignored Garrett and said to Sunset, "we have something we want you to do, Sunset. All our homework. Mine, Tirek's, Tantabus's, and Chrysalis's too." Sunset crossed her arms and said, "no." Sombra smirked and said, "figured you'd say that." Tirek then grabbed Sunset's collar and slammed her across the lockers with force. Sunset shut her eyes and clinched her teeth in pain. Garrett got angry and grabbed Tirek's shoulder and shouted, "Hey! Leave her alone, asshole!" Tirek cleared at Garrett and asked with offense, "what you just call me, dipshit?" Garrett crossed his arms and said, "what are you, deaf, stupid, and lazy? You're so lazy that you'll force Sunset to do your homework and incite violence when she rightfully says no? You leave her alone right now, asshole!" Tirek gave an evil grin, let Sunset go, and said, "your wish is my command, your majesty..." And that's when Tirek and Sombra attacked Garrett, beating the ever-loving crap out of him. They punched him in the face, kicked him in the stomach, Garrett didn't stand a chance in this one-sided fight.

Each kick knocked the wind out of Garrett, making breathing impossible for him. Right as Tirek was ready to kick him again, Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna walked in, immediately ending the fight. Garrett was flat on his back, legs apart. He had a bloody lip, a couple lumps on his forehead, and a massive bruise on his left eye. He was seeing stars. "That's enough!" Celestia scolded, "you two, detention for a month! Into the isolation room, now!" Tirek and Sombra both muttered, "yes Principal Celestia..." Before they left, they glared at Sunset and Garrett. Sunset got scared and helped pick Garrett up. "Billy, please say something!" She desperately pleaded, frightened of the idea of this poor young man being beaten nearly to death because of her! "Let's take him to the nurse's room," ordered Luna as they took the beaten up Garrett to the nurse's office. Garrett regained enough consciousness and slurred, "math, science, history, unraveling the mystery, it all started with a big bang..." He shook his head to regain consciousness and said, "oy... I'm going to be feeling that in the morning..." He was taken to the medical bed where the nurse patched him up. "Billy, as soon as you're patched up, you can go home early," said Luna, "and no buts about it."

"Okey dokey Vice Principal Luna," said Garrett. Sunset held Garrett's hand and asked, "are you alright Billy?" She didn't even realize her sisterly instincts were kicking in. "I've had worse lickings," said Garrett, "I'm fine really. But those guys are just petty." Sunset frowned and said, "Billy that was stupid! You didn't have to defend me like that! You could have gotten killed!" Garrett looked at Sunset sadly and said, "but I was just trying to help... I didn't want you to get beaten up like that..." Sunset crossed her arms and said, "well I'm not worth taking a beating for, Billy. Even if your intentions to defend me are good, now you've practically placed a target on your back with Tirek and Sombra. I'm just not worth it, Billy. Just let me fight my own battles. I'm a monster and I deserve the hell that I've brought upon myself. And I'm not going to let you suffer because of me." Garrett protested, "Sunset, that's not true! You're not a monster!"

Later in the night, Garrett met with Princess Twilight in the dream realm. Twilight looked at Garrett's bruised face and said, "oh my goodness, what happened to you??" She felt sad and horrified. "These two schmucks named Sombra and Tirek confronted Sunset and wanted her to do their homework for her," explained Garrett, "when Sunset refused, Tirek got angry with her and tried to beat her up. I intervened and got beaten all the way to honky tonks. A wiser stallion would have not engaged, but I wasn't going to do nothing as those jerks hurt my sister."

"Oh dear," said Twilight, "I'm sorry you had to endure that. The human doppelgangers of Sombra and Tirek sound awful." Garrett tilted his head and asked, "Sombra and Tirek have Pony doppelgangers?"

"Yes," confirmed Twilight, "although technically Tirek is a centaur. But both beings have abused their power and attempted to take over Equestria many times. I'm sorry you endured that Garrett." The young stallion looked down and said, "Sunset said that taking a beating for her was stupid and not worth it. But the way she said it, it almost sounded sisterly." Twilight smiled sweetly and said, "well I think you were brave to defend her, Garrett. Don't give up on her. You're a good stallion, and your love for your family makes you strong." Garrett smiled and said, "thanks Twilight. That means a lot coming from you."
