Darn It Spike!

(okay, so despite this humorous title, I should give a warning that this chapter contains self harm.)

It had now been two weeks since Garrett took that beating from Sombra and Tirek for Sunset. Eventually, the bruises and bumps that he had gotten eventually healed and faded away, as most wounds eventually do. Garrett went to school and saw his sister there. He hurried over to her and said enthusiastically, "Morning Sunset! How you doing?" Sunset looked at Garrett with a tired look and said, "lousy. Only upside is that I managed to complete fixing the damage to the school."

"You alright? You look more exhausted," said Garrett. "My well-being shouldn't matter to you," said Sunset, "stop being concerned, Billy." They wandered over to Sunset's locker and saw several notes taped over it with offensive insults such as "Monster," "freak," and "waste of life." Sunset and Garrett observed every note, offending him. Sunset thought to herself, "I deserve this..." Garrett frowned and said, "I can't believe these students would go out of their way to write such insults and then put it on your locker. That is so petty!" Next to them was Flash Sentry, Sunset's ex- boyfriend. "Why do you give a shit about her?" Flash asked smugly, "you in love with Sunset or something?" The moment Flash accused Garrett of being in love with his sister, Garrett gave a look of disgust and said, "ewwww, NO! NO, NO, NO! What is wrong with you?!?!?! Incest is not wincest!" Sunset by that point had walked away, but Flash and his friends were surprised by Garrett's negative reaction. Garrett calmed down and said, "uh I mean... Why would I be in love with Sunset? I'm in love with someone else!"

"Really? Who?" Flash asked. Garrett smirked and said, "none of yo damn business." Flash's friends were shocked by the sick burn, silencing Flash. Garrett walked away to go to classes. Hours later, lunchtime came, but Garrett noticed Sunset wasn't there. Then again, everyone was staring at her aggressively with judgement and hate. Garrett looked for Sunset, and noticed she was outside in the rain, shivering without a coat. Garrett walked to her and gave her his coat. "Here, this should keep you warm," said Garrett as he sat next to Sunset. "You didn't have to give me your coat," said Sunset, "you shouldn't get cold because of me." Garrett thought to himself, "I should tell her the truth... It's better to take the risk now instead of letting her continue to beat herself up into misery..." Garrett breathed in and said, "Sunset... There's something important I have to tell you..." Sunset looked at Garrett and asked, "what is it Billy?" Garrett looked at his sister and said, "Sunset, I'm your brother Garrett. I escaped prison, and I was able to reunite with Mom and Pop. I met Princess Twilight Sparkle, and she told me where you were. She's really sweet, and I came here because I want to bring you home..." Sunset looked at Garrett in disbelief. But then her disbelief turned into rage as she asked incredulously, "what kind of bullshit is this?!?!?!! You think this is some kind of joke?!?!?!" Before Garrett could protest, Sunset stood up and said, "you're my brother?!?!?!? MY BROTHER'S DEAD!!!! HE DIED IN PRISON!!!" She pointed at Garrett and yelled, "I had a feeling you were pretending to be nice! Thought you could let my guard down, and then hurt me with your bullshit lies! You don't know shit about me, asshole! You stay the hell away from me, you lying asshole!" She slapped Garrett across the face, threw his jacket back at him, and stormed off while outrunning him, the anger inside her reawakening. Garrett protested, "Sunset, wait!" But by that point, Sunset had outrun him, leaving him unable to find her. Sunset was in the girl's bathroom, growling angrily. This anger she was feeling wasn't the same anger she'd had when she was confident. This was anger brought on due to her depression and self-hate. And this anger was clouding her ability to reason and think logically. She thought to herself, "my brother's dead! How could he have known about my family?!?!?! And Princess Twilight?!?!?! How could he have known about Twilight?!?!?! Unless, did Princess Twilight send him here to mock me?!?!?! That bitch!!! I oughta give her a piece of my mind!" Sunset stormed over to the statue and was ready to go into the portal. But then she noticed that the statue was back to being a solid stone.

What she and Garrett didn't know was that back in Equestria, Spike had accidentally put back the magic book to a shelf, unintentionally closing the connection to the Crystal Mirror and the statue in the human world. As Sunset felt only solid stone, Sunset said to herself, "the portal... the connection's severed... she... Twilight did this on purpose just to mock me... She abandoned me... " Sunset then screamed out in furious anger. Hours later, Sunset went back to her apartment, still fuming. She looked at herself in the mirror and said to herself, "I deserve to be abandoned... I'm a traitor to Celestia, and... I'm a monster... I don't deserve to live..." Sunset got out her knife, her anger replaced with self-hate, and she started to cut her left forearm, slashes not too big or fatal. Sunset watched the blood trickle down her arm, feeling that she deserved this pain she was enduring, not caring anymore. She was flirting with the idea of ending her life.

Meanwhile in the nighttime, Garrett was talking with Princess Twilight through the dream realm. He explained everything to her. "She didn't believe me at all," lamented Garrett, "she told me to stay away from her and then Sunset slapped me... I think I just made things worse..." He looked down sadly, tears of guilt welling in his eyes. Twilight placed her wing around Garrett and said, "you didn't make things worse Garrett. You know that your sister is a hard-headed mare. She needs time to process the possibility that you're alive." Garrett looked into Twilight's violet eyes and asked, "but what if I've caused irreparable damage and Sunset winds up hating me?" Twilight tenderly touched Garrett's face and said, "I don't know what the future holds, but I know you can't give up on your sister. Every storm does pass eventually. And if worse comes to worse, I can come over to the human world to help you." Garrett gave a sad smile and said, "that actually would be helpful. Thanks Twilight."
