Lucy P.O.V
When I woke up the next morning, I found a sleeping Natsu next to me, securing me with his arms all around my body with one hand around my waist and the other one underneath my head. I turned my head to face Natsu and smiled. He looked so peaceful when he's asleep, so innocent. I almost didn't want to wake him up so I could watch him sleep. But he suddenly did, fluttering his perfect eyes open to look at me. He stroked my cheek his his fingers and whispered, "Good morning."
"Good morning," I whispered back.
"Have a nice sleep?" He asked. I smiled and brought myself closer to him and his neck. "Not really. There was a man in my bed. At least he kept me warm."
"Glad I could be of service. But it's going to cost you something."
"Oh? And what's that?"
"This," he muttered before placing his lips on top of mine. I kissed him back sweetly as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He then slowly began to move and hovered over me, deepening his kiss. I kissed him back, but quickly pulled away for air before he could attack me again with his lips. Dear God, I keep forgetting how much of a kisser he is, I groaned in my mind.
"I swear to God, one day you two are gonna forget about me and just have sex in front of me," a familiar voice growled. The two of us froze and followed the voice to the other bed. It ended up being Acasia, staring at us with annoyance and eating a bag of potato chips. She gulped down her food and asked, "Lets please keep this at least PG-13, okay?" Natsu and I stared at each other and couldn't help but laugh. Natsu rolled to his side and helped me sit up against the pillow. "Sorry you had to see that," I apologized.
"Just don't do it again. If I don't die from the cancer, I'll die from nausea because of the two of you acting all lovey-dovey."
"Well 'ya know what kid? When you find a boyfriend, you'll probably be the same way," Natsu snickered. She ate one more chip, emphasizing the crunch noise. "Whatever, lover boy. What's the plan today for you two?"
"Im just hanging with my girl today," he smiled, wrapping his arm around me. I leaned my head against his shoulder and sighed. "I already told you, you don't have to. You have a life outside the hospital."
"Doesn't mean I don't want to hang with you," he said, gently kissing my beanie-covered head.
"Ugh, while you two are having eye sex, I'll be in testing all day with this apparently new and amazing doctor. Yay," she said sarcastically. She brought forward the bag of potato chips and offered us some. I raised my hand and said, "I can't eat that."
"Neither can I, but 'ya know what, who gives a damn anymore," she rolled her eyes and took another bite of the chip. Suddenly, a nurse came in, and Acasia quickly hid the chips under her mattress. "It's time for the testing," the nurse smiled. She nodded and walked over to her and the wheelchair. As she was wheeled away, she saluted to the two of us. We both laughed as she disappeared from our sight. When the door closed, Natsu began to kiss my cheek repeatedly. I chuckled and asked, "What's up with you today?"
"I don't know, hearing that Acasia was going to be gone all day kind of got me happy." I gasped and hit him on the arm. He held my hand and said, "I'm kidding! But it's great that she's getting extra treatment."
"Yeah," I said, accidentally letting the sadness slip away. I hated to admit it, but I was actually jealous of Acasia. She gets extra treatment, a better chance of living, and I had little to none. I had already accepted death, but there was still a little part of me that still wished that I could live another ten to twenty years by my friends and family. And Natsu. Natsu rubbed my shoulder and said, "You're going to get the help, Lucy! Gajeel and Levy's train leave tomorrow and they're coming back on Friday. That's one whole week to get the guy to come. Have a little faith."
I nodded and looked up at my boyfriend, smiling sadly. I gently touched his cheek and suddenly felt stubbles of hair on his chin. "When was the last time you shaved?"
"A while...Sorry, I've been too caught up on you and your health."
"You still have to take care of yourself. I don't want you getting sick too," I whispered. Natsu smiled and leaned in closer to me. "Yes ma'am," he whispered back before gently pressing my lips against mine. I kissed him back sweetly. "I'm going to use the bathroom, be right back."
"Come back soon," I whispered. He smiled and kissed my temple before walking out to the bathroom. While he was out, I suddenly heard a vibrating noise coming the covers. I searched and found Natsu's cellphone, vibrating because of a text from an unknown number.
Did you get her family record?
Family record? I thought to myself. I then remembered something I learned in a book about revealing unknown numbers. I unlocked his cellphone and began to go through the software of the calls. I pressed several buttons, typed in several codes that I memorized, and pressed enter about a billion times. Suddenly, there was a ping.
Bingo.
At that moment, Natsu came out of the bathroom, zipping his zipper. When he saw me on his phone, he looked confused. "Did I leave my phone there?"
"Yeah, you did. You got a text from an unknown number, so I decrypted it and got the actual number." Natsu's eyes widened and he quickly walked up to the phone and looked at it. His eyes suddenly flickered and darkened. I began to feel concerned and asked, "Natsu...? Are you alright?"
"Lucy...I'm going to leave for a while," he growled
"Natsu, what's wrong?" I asked more seriously. "You're scaring me." Natsu looked back at me and sighed. He sat down at the edge of my bed and placed his head on my hat. "I swear I'll explain everything when I get back. I'll tell you the whole story in explicit detail, but right now, you have to trust me. Do you trust me?"
"Of course I trust you," I said.
"Good. I'll be back sooner than you expect, alright?" I nodded. Obviously Natsu had something that he had to deal with. In my heart, I trusted that he would tell me when he was ready. Natsu smiled and kissed my forehead. "Make sure you've eaten before you come back, alright? I don't want you starving."
"Yes, Sir," I smiled.
He smiled back. "I love you."
"I love you too," I answered back. He then got up, walked up to my door, took a quick glance at me, and left my room. I took some medication, like always, I slowly began to drift into a mediated and drugged sleep.
When I woke up, it was only three in the afternoon. I looked around my room to see neither Acasia or Natsu not in my room. I sighed with a hint of loneliness. "Guess it's just going to be a Me Day, huh?" I asked myself. I looked to my right and saw a juice box and eggs and bacon in a box. I opened them up and turned on the TV, watching some Sherlock re-runs. As I began to watch TV, I heard a sudden rushed sound coming from the hallway. There were people screaming and yelling, and the sound of yelling. Is someone flat-lining? I looked back through the window and heard the doctors yelling. "We have a thirteen year-old female with excessive internal bleeding in both the throat and the heart! We need an OR now!"
"Thirteen year old female? No....No it can't be," I whispered. I look through the window longer and saw the ghernie move quickly past the room.
And on the ghernie was none other than Acasia.
"Oh God," I whispered, my eyes burning. "Oh God."
Natsu P.O.V
"Are you sure you're correct about this?" Gajeel sighed, having the same anxiety as I was.
"I'm absolutely positive. I tracked the number, and immediately I knew who's place it was," I answered in a growl.
"But how exactly do you know?" Gajeel asked. I glanced at him sitting at the passenger seat in my car, and I cleared my voice in slight embarrassment. "...The school directory."
"Damn. I was hoping you were going to say something cool and fancy like a cop," he chuckled. I feel him looked at me with a slight bit of concern. "What exactly are you going to do? 'Ya know, once you catch this person?"
"That's what you're here for. You're going to make sure I don't kill her," I growled softly.
"It's a her?! Does that mean it's your ex? Elena or something?"
"Eloise. And no, it's not her. But we sure have met the damn person...Slipped right through our fingertips. It's thanks to the bitch Lucy barely holding on to her life..." There was so much anger surging within my bloodstream that I I just wanted to crash my car. I was finally about to confront her. The girl who hurt my girl.
My Lucy.
I parked my car in front of Memory Apartments, where the perpetrator lived. I stepped out of my car saw the A Building. First floor, first door. Anger is still fuming inside as I slowly walk towards the building. Soon, Gajeel grabbed me by the shoulder and gave me a concerned look. "I understand that you must feeling very angry at the person. I mean if someone was doing this to Levy, I'd probably flip shit too...Just don't do anything that you might end up regretting."
I stared at Gajeel for a long time and cooled a little. He was right. As much as I wanted to avenge Lucy, I didn't want to do anything that may end up frightening her or getting me in trouble. "I'm trusting you to help me cool down." Gajeel nodded, and we both proceeded to the building.
"Emerald Residence" was read on the door. I stood behind Gajeel and allowed him to knock on the door. He knocked three times, and for a while, it was just silence. Then, I could hear footsteps from the other side of the door. The door opens, and there she is.
The girl who tried to steal Lucy's medical file: Miss Lana Cameroon.
"Natsu? What are you doing here?" The girl asked innocently, wearing nothing but basketball shorts and a tank top. There was so much anger boiling within me I simply pushed Gajeel out of the way so that I could stare at her face to face. "You bitch," I growled.
Her eyes widened. "W-What?"
"There was no one threatening you, was there? That was just a cover so that you could slip out of our hands!"
"Natsu, what are you-"
"You're the creep. The stalker. The one who dared to hurt the woman that I love!" I then grabbed her by the shoulders and pinned her against the wall, beginning to lose all of control. She screamed with fear while Gajeel tried to hold me back. "She's dying! She only has a month or two left, and all the pain she's been through is all on you!" I wanted to kill her. I wanted to beat her until she went through the pain that Lucy had to deal with. I continued to stare down at Lana for the longest of time, wanting to see the fear chill down her body. But to my surprise, it wasn't fear I was sensing from her.
It was anger.
"You brought this on yourself when you broke up with Eloise," she muttered, not looking at me in the eye. "She hasn't been the same ever since senior year started! When you two were together, she was happy! She was smiling all the time, made basketball more fun, and even began talking to girls like me! But once the two of you went all Splitzville...She wasn't the same! She was a lot more depressed, smiled less, and was less serious about basketball! Do you have any idea how painful it is to see someone who was so bright to become...dark!"
"What the hell are you blabbing all about?" I growled.
"Oh my God, Natsu...I think I know where she's getting at," Gajeel muttered.
"Getting at what?!" I yelled.
"You love Eloise, don't you?" Gajeel suddenly asked. The two of us froze. Lana's body language changed completely from full of anger to melting into butter. I released Lana from my arms and just stared at her. Huh...Who would've thought. Lana looked at us, then the ground, and then back at us. "When I saw you and...that girl getting really close, I did everything in my power to make sure it wouldn't disturb Eloise...but the two of you were just everywhere! So I sent her a note, the first note...Just reminding her that you would eventually leave her. And when I found out she had a pacemaker, I made the box just for a little trigger, that's all...I had no idea she had a tumor when I was doing all this, I swear! After I found out she was a dead man walking...I stopped." She slowly leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor. Her body slowly began to shake as the sounds of her tears echoed throughout the room. "I just...I just wanted her to be happy..."
"Natsu, let's just leave her be," Gajeel muttered into my ear.
"But-"
"I bet you would do the same if the situation was flipped, Natsu. She's confessed, and she's stopping. Let's just leave. Now!" I looked at Gajeel, and then Lana, and then back at Gajeel. I sighed with frustration. This wasn't what I had planned. I looked back at Lana, who was just an emotional wreck. I crouched even closer to her to give her one message; one last message that would get into her mind to make sure she would never do what she did again. "I don't ever want to see your face around me or Lucy again, you hear?" I growled softly. She looked up at me wide eyed and nodded quickly. I stood up by Gajeel's side and said, "Let's get out of here."
I returned to the hospital in a hurry. I had told Lucy I'd be back right away, but it was already almost four. She's going to kill me, I thought to myself. I quickly walked up to the room where I saw Mirajane standing outside the closed door, her eyes slightly wet with tears. "Mira?" I called out. She looked up at me and began to block the entry way to Lucy's room. I raised an eyebrow and asked, "What is it? Something wrong?" And then a sudden thought hit me, along with a wave of panic. "I-Is it Lucy?! Is she alright?"
"Yes, Natsu...she's fine...It's just...," she couldn't finish her words and let out a soft cry. I touched her shoulder and asked, "What is going on?"
"It's...It's Acasia...She was going to have tests done today when...there was a hidden infection behind her lung, so small yet so...God, if only we had found it sooner then maybe..." I closed my eyes, realizing what she was implying.
Acasia Mercinco had died.
"Fuck," I whispered, feeling a tear roll down my face. Just a few hours ago she was perfectly healthy, scolding us for our behavior and how men were idiots. I could hear soft sobs come from Lucy's room, probably belonging to Acasia's parents. The parents, both looking exactly like Acasia with their blond hair and bright eyes, walked out of the room with her belongings. They thanked Mirajane for everything that she did, and continued to cry as they left the Pediatrics Ward. Mirajane took a deep breath, trying to get herself back together. "I think you better stay with Lucy. She's taking this...especially hard." I nodded, and the two of us parted ways with only me heading into the room. I found Lucy sitting on top of her bed, hugging her legs together. She didn't look good at all. Her eyes just continued stare at the wall, her breathes very slow. I sat down next to her, placing my hand on her back. "Lucy...are you alright?" I asked.
She slowly shook her head in silence. I sighed and pulled her close to me, her head resting on my chest. "Natsu...I want you to do me a favor," she whispered.
"Anything," I whispered back.
"I don't want you to cry when I died," she stated. My eyes gaped and I looked down at Lucy. "Don't say that!" I hissed. "You are not going to die!"
"Yes I am, Natsu!" She suddenly yelled. "I have already cheated death once, there's no way he's going to let me do it again! I'm done, Natsu! This is it!"
"You do not know that! Gajeel and Levy are leaving tomorrow! They'll definitely bring the doctor!"
"He isn't going to listen to a bunch of kids," she chuckled. "I'm dead, Natsu. I. Am. Going. To. Die!" I furiously got up and used all my fury against the wall. She was losing faith. This wasn't the same Lucy that I was talking to earlier that morning. Acasia's death has made a light shine in her mind: death can happen to anyone. I felt myself choking on a sob as I slid down to the ground. This was pathetic. I was pathetic. Cancer was fucking pathetic. I looked at Lucy, who was just staring at me with only a single tear compared to my millions. "So...what do you want me to do?"
She then broke into a soft, shy smile. She moved her body to the right and said, "Sit next to me until I perish."
