Two weeks earlier, a lonely 13-year-old girl named Angelina (Angel for short) is hanging out in the small yard in front of her apartment and eating candy. Her widowed mother calls her over for dinner.
"Angel, Dinner is ready!"
"Ok, I'm coming!" Angel said.
Before Angel goes inside she buries the candy wrappers in the snow. Dinner gets tense and awkward when Angel's mother gets a phone call from her mother and starts arguing with her, after the call leaves the mother crying on the couch after they're done eating.
While putting her plate away, Angel takes a knife from the kitchen before returning to her room and practices her threats with it while wearing a creepy mask.
"Hey little boy, you scared? Huh!?" Angel yelled.
When Angel hears noises from outside, she puts the knife down.
"What was that?" Angel wondered.
She uses her telescope to spy on her neighbors. Her neighbor Jack is exercising while the other neighbor Larry and Virginia are arguing only to make love a moment later. Angel can't take her eyes off them until Virginia notices her, then she hides.
But when she hears a car parking, she decides to peek out of the window again: the couple is gone, and there's a middle age man named, Dave and a young boy moving into the apartment next to Angel's. For some reason, the boy walks around barefoot.
