Winter Memories

I've been having that same dream about Jack and Tooth for the past 3 weeks. I've seen it so much I'm able to analyze ever detail and every aspect of the dream. It was driving me nuts, waking up in the middle of the night, then falling back to sleep only to see it again.

I was getting ready for the day. I decided to wear a pair of black pants, a turtle neck but the sleeves and the collar of the shirt was lace and see through. I brushed my hair, putting it in the original side braid, then I went to my closet and put on a pair of black ankle boots. I walked out of my room and started to walk to the dinning room to have breakfast.

When I got there I was greeted with smiles, Jack, North, Bunny, and Sandy were all there. I looked at the empty chair in between Jack and Sandy, I felt a knot form in my stomach. That's where Tooth use to sit, but ever since that day she...insulted me and Jack told her that he didn't love her. She hasn't come back, I haven't seen her once ever since that day, I went to go sit down in between North and Bunny.

"Tooth didn't come today?" I said as I sat down.

Everyone looked at me, then they looked down at their plates. Everyone, except Jack, he kept his eyes on me.

"I'm sorry, if it weren't for me none of this wou-"

"It's not your fault, Elsa," North said putting his hand on my shoulder.

"But it is my fault, if I wouldn't have come then none of this would have happened. It's all my fault and you know it," I said my hands gripping the table.

"Elsa-" Bunny began, but I cut him off.

"No, if I hadn't come, none of this would have happened. Tooth would be here smiling and laughing and you would all be together again."

"If you hadn't have come, Pitch would have you in his clutches!" Jack said.

"Then they would be no reason why you would get hurt!" I told him.

"If he had you, he would use you and do you think we would let him!" He snapped back.

"Then maybe it would have been better if I didn't have powers at all!" I yelled.

Everyone was silent and I could feel all their eyes on me.

"If I didn't have powers, I wouldn't have to neglect Anna all those years ago. If I didn't have powers I wouldn't have gone out of control and froze Arendelle. I wouldn't had to live my life behind that damn door. I wouldn't have to be afraid and there would be no reason for Pitch to try this uprising again."

"If you didn't have powers, we wouldn't have met you," Jack said, his eyebrows coming together in concern.

"It might have of been better if you hadn't met me." I said looking at Jack and I could see lost and depression in his eyes.

"Elsa-"

"I'm sorry, but I'm not hungry anymore," I got up from the table and walked to the door.

"Elsa!"

I could hear Jack screaming my name as I walked through the door. It killed me not to answer him, it killed me for him to scream my name like that. It killed me to see depression on his face, but I couldn't take it anymore. It was my fault that Tooth is at home probably crying her heart out, it's my fault, it's all my fault. I wrapped my arms around myself as I walked back to my room, ignoring anyone who said hi to me. I got to my room and slam the door shut, my back was against the door. I felt bad for making Tooth leave, she deserve to be here, not me, I slid down the door all the way to the floor and I wrapped my arms around my knees bringing them to my chest.

"I'm sorry," I said putting my head on my knees.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I whispered as I rock myself back and forth.

"I'm sorry."

*

Minutes went by and I was able to get up onto my bed. I sat on my bed, looking out the window with my knees to my chest and my arms wrapped around them. I heard the door open, I didn't need to look, I already knew who it was.

"Go away Jack, I don't want to talk about it anymore."

"Well, it's a good thing I'm not Jack then."

I turned my head and I saw North at the door.

"What are you doing here?"

"Well, hello to you too dear." He said as he walked into the room and closed the door behind him.

"Sorry it's just..."

"It's just what?" He said sitting next to me.

"Tooth should be here, not me. She was chosen to be a guardian and I was-"

"Chosen."

"No I wasn't," I said looking at him.

"What do you mean?" He asked putting his hand on my back.

"I mean, I may have been chosen, but Tooth was chosen for a reason. You all were."

"Elsa, there must have been a reason. Otherwise you wouldn't have been chosen in the first place."

"But what was my reason North. I was only a baby when I was chosen. What could have happened when I was that young?"

"Your were born with a pure heart."

"Many people are born with a pure heart. Anna was even born with a heart purer than mine and she wasn't chosen. So that can't be the reason."

"Then maybe, they saw something in your future."

"What?"

"Father time must have looked in your future and showed the others."

"Is that why?"

"Most likely, the next time you see Manny, ask him."

"I will, hey North. Can you tell me the reason why you were chosen?"

"Do you want me to?"

I nodded.

"Alright, come on," he said walking to the door.

"Where are we going?"

"To the library."

* In the library *

"Let's see where is it?" North said on a ladder in the library looking for a book.

I sat down in a chair, looking at the amazing amount of shelves, there was so many it almost touched the roof of the huge building. There were books about cooking, sewing, drawing, fiction, nonfiction, history, everything. It was amazing, you could spend years of reading these books and you wouldn't put a dent in it.

"Here it is," I looked at North as he climbed down the ladder.

"The book of my history and the other guardians history. Even yours," he said walking over to me.

"How?"

"Every time a guardian is chosen, their story will automatically be added." He said as he handed the book to me. Then he sat down in the chair next to me.

The book was red, it had golden vines going up the sides of the cover and swirl around the top. Golden letters made up the word, "Memories of the Past," the title, then I noticed how thin the book was.

"How many guardian histories are in here?"

"All of them."

"How, the book is so thin."

"Open it," North said with a grin on his face.

I opened it and I saw that the pages were empty. I flipped through a few more pages, empty. Nothing, no pictures, no names, no dates, no words, nothing. It was just blank.

"Uh, North there's nothing in here."

"That's what it wants you to think."

"What do you mean?"

He extended his hands out to me, palms up. His eyes and hands gestured to the book, to give it to him. I placed the book on his palms and he brought it closer to himself. He placed the book on one of his hands and he placed the other on top of the book, palm down, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"Santa Claus," he said and the pages of the book shined a bright gold. Then the light vanished, he extended the book back to me. I stared at it, not sure what he wanted me to do.

"Open it," he said.

I grabbed the book and North' s hand fell back down onto his lap. I looked at him, he gave me a smile and then I looked down at the book. I opened it, my eyes widen, as I watch the gold light form the pictures and words, when it was finished there was a heading at the top. "North' s Past: Santa Claus" it read. I looked at North.

"Now do you know how to do it?"

"Yes."

"Good, then I'll leave you to your reading," he said getting up to leave.

"North."

"Yes," he said turning around to look at me.

"Thank you."

"Your welcome, now start reading and maybe you want to look up your own past as well."

Then he left. Look up my own past? Why would I do that, I already know my own past. I shook my head and got the thought out of my head and I began to read.

·North Kringle

·Son of Mary and Rick Kringle.

·Lived in a small town in the Germany.

·At the age of thirty when he died and became a guardian.

* North' s P.O.V *

I was 18 when the mayor of our town banned toys. He banned toys because he, well, because he could. It was an idiotic law, soldiers and officers came into houses and confiscated all kinds of toys. Yoyos, dolls, toy waggons, toppers, kites, everything they could find and claim as a toy was taken. And me and my family being toy makers, we were shut down and forced to find new jobs. My mother became a stay at home mom, my father became a black Smith, as for me, I became a paper boy. I carried papers telling the news in a flour sack that was flung over my shoulder, It wasn't painful, it was quote easy actually, well let's admit it I was one of the strongest boys in town. So it was the perfect job for me, lugging around a huge bag filled of papers, it may be a perfect job for my body, but it wasn't the perfect job for me. This job was what helped paid the bills, but the job that I loved was making toys. I was a toy maker and so was my family, I couldn't tell you how much my mom and dad missed making toys.

Kids coming in the store, their eyes widen at the fabulous toys. Their smiling faces when they bought a toy, the laughter they made when they played with their friends on the cobblestone streets. This was what we missed the most, not just making toys, but making children smile. The brightness in their eyes, the smile on their faces, their heart warming laughter, but now...no child is smiling, laughing. As I walk down the streets, delivering paper, I see kids doing chores or just sitting there, doing nothing. The brightness in their eyes have dimmen, their smiles have faded, and their laughter silenced. It killed me to see the children like that, but what could I do, I wasn't young enough to by a child or old enough to be a man, no, I was a reckless teenager. If I thought of an idea, no one would support me or they thought it was reckless or stupid, no, I couldn't do anything, not at this age anyway.

Years passed and I turned 25, I decided to work as the town black Smith so I could help my dad. Then one day I got this bright-eye idea.

"Hey dad, what do think about making toys again?" I said as he hammered on a heated sword. He stopped and looked up to see if anyone heard me, then he looked at me.

"Shh, keep your voice down. Do you know what happens if you speak even a word of that." He said as he continued hammering.

"Yeah, I know but-"

"But nothing, you are not to speak another word of that."

"But dad, don't you miss it! Don't you miss making the kids smile! Don't you miss their laughter filling the streets! If it weren't for this idiotic law, we would still be in business and children will be happy! Ever since this idiotic law was declared, not one child, not one has smiled, laughed, or have any fun!"

He stopped hammering, he looked up at me and put the hammer down on his work bench. He then placed the hot sword in the water, letting it make a sizzling sound as it submerged into the water. He turned around and looked at me.

"Son, follow me," he said as he took off his leather apron and so did I. I followed him to the front of the store.

"Sit down," he said pulling a chair out from the counter. I sat down as he walked over to the open sign and switched it to close. He walked over back behind the counter, in front of me.

"Son, you know we missed making toys, correct?"

"Yes."

"And you do know the consequence for making toys, right?"

I took a deep breath, "Death by rope." also known as hanged by their neck.

"Exactly and we don't want you to get hurt. So can please drop this whole idea and live a normal perfect life?"

I nodded.

"That's my boy, now come on. Let's get back to work."

I should have listened to my dad, but I didn't. I waited to move out of my parents house to begin my plan. By day was a black Smith, by night I was a toy maker, every night I would make toys and more toys, soon I had enough for all the children in town. Then I put my plan in full swing.

I waited for nightfall. The whole town was silent, asleep as I got ready for the death defining plan to begin. I put on a pair of black boots, a long red robe and I pulled the hood over my head so no one could see my face. I load up the sack I used for caring news papers with toys and I head out my door. I was silent, I didn't make a sound as I walked up to houses that had children and put them on their door step. It took me all night, but it was worth it because in the morning...

"WHERE DID ALL THESE TOYS COME FROM?!" The mayor raged as he watched the kids running and playing with their toys.

"This is a disgrace! Hurry collect these toys and burn them!"

Soldiers pried toys out of children's hands and they threw them in a huge pile in the town square. Soldiers held back crying and screaming children from getting to the toys. One soldier lit a torch and handed it to the mayor or should I say tyrant.

"Listen, who ever did this. this is a warning," he said speaking out to the crowd of people that were now swarming.

"If you make, sell, give, or even touch another toy. I will find you, mysterious toy giver, and hang you with the rest of your kind."

He dropped the torch into the pile of toys and it burst into flames. We all stood there as we watch all of my hard work get burn, the mayor and soldiers continued walking through the streets. I stood there, watching them with my arms crossed over my chest.

"Oh, this isn't over, tyrant!" I muttered under my breath.

I made more toys and the next morning.

"MORE TOYS!"

Again the soldiers collected the toys and burned them.

"I WARNED YOU TOY MAKER! NOW YOUR ON THE DEATH LIST! I WILL FIND YOU AND YOU WILL BE HANGED!"

The bloody tyrant roared as him and his soldiers marched down the streets. Bring it on, I thought as I walked back into the black Smith store.

I worked day in and day out and every morning the tyrant burned my toys. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, months turned into years. But no matter what I wouldn't stop, I wouldn't stop trying to make the children finally happy. Years pass, 5 years to be exact, I was now 30 years old, and that's when I became sloppy. If I hadn't, if I hadn't attempted to give out toys with soldiers covering the streets. I would have made it, but the dog got my scent and they chased me, I ran, running around corners, in alleys, up buildings, down buildings. But when I stopped in a alley way to catch my breath, I was cornered and they caught me. Now I stand here, on this wooden platform, with a rope wrapped around my neck, my hands tied behind my back, standing in front of the town and the mayor sitting on his throne. Waiting for the wood under my feet to give way and let me fall.

"North Kringle," the tyrant said.

I kept quite and straighten my back.

"You are being charged for breaking the law of making, buying, or even have a toy in their possession. Do you speak against this?"

I stayed quite, my hands became fist behind me, and I glared at him.

"From my understanding you used to be a toy maker right? And yet your still making toys." His tone became dark.

"What can I say, toy makers die hard."

"Oh, he speaks?"

"In fact I do."

"Well, I can see that. Do you have any last wishes, Mr.Kringle?"

"North, Mr.Kringle is my father."

"Then do you have any last wishes, North?"

"In fact I do, how nice of you to ask." I said smirking, I could see my mother and father crying in the crowd.

"I want your head on a silver plate," I said looking at the tyrant.

"Anything else?" He asked unphased.

"Yes actually," I looked at my mom and dad.

"Mom, dad...I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I'm a disgrace on the family, but...were toy makers."

I started looking at the entire crowd, "And this law is something a selfish child will do. It's ridiculous, idiotic, and I'm surprise that all of you are just going to sit back and watch your children suffer! What kind of parents are you, don't you hate how your children don't laugh anymore, that they don't sing, play?"

I said as I looked over the crowd and everyone's faces turned to shame. I looked at my parents, they weren't crying anymore, they stood there, backs straight, heads held up high and eyebrows coming together in anger.

"Son, you're not a disgrace to this family."

"Were proud of you and don't forget that," my mom said as my dad gave me a thumbs up.

"Thank you mom, dad. Also, don't forget your number one rule."

"And what is that son?"

"Don't forget to always make the children happy."

"HANG HIM," the bloody tyrant yelled and the wood under my feet gave way.

Falling, only to be caught by a rope hanging around my neck that slowly chokes you to death. What a way to die, you think that the pain is actually what happens first when you die or maybe it's the sound. No, the first thing that you feel is the memories, the memories of your love ones, anyone who has ever loved you, your whole life flashes before your eyes and before you know it all you see is a light. Except I didn't see a light, well I did see a light, a blue one, but I could still feel the rope tied around my neck, except it was hanging from my neck this time. I was in the air, floating as the blue light shone on me.

"Where am I, who am I?"

"Your Santa and your a guardian," the moon said.

"A guardian?"

"Yes, a guardian to protect all the children in the world."

"W-who are you."

I could sense the moon smiling, "I'm the man in the moon. Manny."

And that's how my life as a guardian began. I was Santa Claus, toy giver to the children. Only work one day in the world Christmas Eve, but make toys all year with the help of my snow yetti's in the North Pole. It was only one I met Tooth when I knew who I use to be in the past, but now it didn't matter, I knew it had to be something like that. Something with wanting to make kids happy, it's always better to know about your past, but who you were in the past isn't the person you are now. Don't you forget that.

The End.

* Elsa's P.O.V *

I shut the book and took in a deep breath. I thought I had it bad, but North was willing to break the law just to make kids happy. That's a whole new level of...of amazing, I would never thought that out of all people, North would have that bad of an life. I mean he loved his life, but he had to go through all of these things to keep one thing alive, the children's happiness. He fought and fought and won, the children are happy, laughing, smiling, dancing, singing, alive. There alive and dreaming, then I started to think about Jack, what did he do to become a guardian, I was looking at the book. Tempted to find out, but it felt wrong looking at his past without asking him, without knowing that he will be okay with me looking at it. I decided to ask him if I could look at his past the next time I see him.

I took the book to my room and I sat on my bed with it in my hands. Then North' s voice came back into my head "you might want to look up your own past as well." I placed the book on my left palm hand and my right on top, I took a deep breath.

"Elsa," I said and the pages of the book shined.

I opened the book as a picture of me and Anna formed on the first page and my story started to form.

· Elsa, queen of Arendelle

· born in Arendelle

· Sister, Anna

· Daughter of Diana and Eric Dellen

· Chosen when she was born

· died, never, first guardian chosen before death and will stop growing at the age of 18.

Then my story began.
