His Dark Secret

❄ Jack's P.O.V ❄

"Have you seen Elsa?" I asked as I walked into North's kitchen. Tooth was turning around, taking a hot pan of freshly baked cookies out of the oven.

"No, I haven't actually." She said as she placed the pan on the counter, taking her cooking mittens off.

"Where the heck could she be? I can't find her anywhere," concern was dripping off my tongue as I sat at the red counter. My elbows lying limp on the counter as Tooth looked at me with concern and hurting eyes. She sighed, tearing her eyes away from me as they fell on the cookies, her lips turning up in a smile. She then grabbed a cookie from the pan and then walked over to me. Her elbows landing on the opposite side of the counter as she waved the cookie in my face.

"Here eat this," she smiled, showing me her perfectly white teeth.

"Why?" One of my eyebrows rose in an arch.

"Cause...it would make you forget all your problems. And once your calm, I'll help you find Elsa, now...eat it," she said as she nudged the cookie closer to me.

I chuckled, shaking my head side to side as I reached for the cookie. The warm cookie dough felt comforting between my fingers as I brought it to my lips. Tooth was watching every move I made as if...she was making sure that I ate that cookie. I place the cookie between my teeth, my tongue tasting it sugar sweetness as I took a bite. I chewed and it was unbelievably delicious, it tasted as if it had came from cookie Heaven itself. It was so good that I had devoured it right in front of Tooth's eyes.

"Well?" She asked as I had just popped the last piece of cookie into my mouth.

"It was amazing! Now let's go find..."

I stopped in mid sentence as my head began to pound uncontrollably. It was as if someone was banging a hammer against my head over and over again. I groaned in pain as my sight became dizzy, my vision going in and out of clarity. I looked at Tooth wondering why she wasn't asking me if I was alright. To my surprise she was smirking as her eyes were narrow and conquering, it was then I knew.

"What...what did you do to me?!" I asked as I cringed in pain.

She chuckled menacingly as she stalked over to my side of the counter like a hungry predator. Her eyes turning shape as she now stood in front of me, face to face.

"Oh my poor...sweet Jack. I told you that cookie would make you forget all your problems, did I not?"

"What do you mean..." I cringed, "forget?" I was breathing heavily as I try to catch my breath.

Her lips pricked up like the Cheshire cat's. "When I say forget, I mean it will make you forget about Elsa."

"Why?" My throat was becoming dry as my delusions began to emerge.

"So Pitch can have Elsa and...I can have you."

"You've been working with Pitch! North, Sandy, and Bunny will never let you get away with this!"

"Oh...but they already have. Let's just say...well, they are taking a little nap right now. The same nap you will take in a few minutes and 1.........2........."

My vision was already faded into black as she continued to count.

"5.........6.........7-"

"You'll never get away with this!"

Her face showed a little worry, "But oh Jack..." Her lips turned back up into a smirk.

"......I already have."

My world had turned to black and all I could think of was...

Elsa.

❄ Elsa's P.O.V ❄

"urgh," I groaned as I propped my head up, my neck no longer craning my head as it hung down. I felt the back of my head hit something hard like a brick wall, it was then I had felt something hard and cold wrapped around my wrists and ankles. As the last bit of sleeping powder began to wear off, I allowed my eyes to flutter open as I inhaled deeply.

I was in a room made of stone walls and a stone floor. The room was dark and suffocating, feeling tainted as the atmosphere became cold and tense. There was only a little light that was allow to enter the room as the darkness swallowed it up. I didn't know where I was or who brought me here, I just had to get out. I moved my hand to get up onto my feet, but when I try to move it I heard a sound that went clang. My eyes shot down to my hand and that's when I noticed the black chains that were restricting me to the wall. I moved them again, hoping they were an illusion, the clanging sound echoing through the room. They were real alright as they bind me at my wrists and ankles. I curled my hands up into fist, trying to freeze them so I could escape. I took in a deep breath and concentrated as I began to let my fingers uncurl slowly until the were flat out. To my surprise it didn't work, my powers weren't working. I tried again hoping it was a fluke......nothing. Nothing happened!

"What," I said in a hush whispered as I looked at my hands dumbfounded.

"Your powers weren't work." It was a voice, but it was a voice I never heard before. It was strangely warm and comforting like a young man's voice would be. My head snapped to where it was coming from as I stared into the darkness.

"Those chains are meant to hold guardians captive, rending them useless of their powers. I should know..."

It was then I heard the shuffling of feet as it came closer and closer. I pressed my back against the wall as my heart pounded with fear and anxiety. The palms of my hands pressed against the cold floor as my knees were subconsciously brought to my chest. The foot steps got louder as I could start making an outline of a figure and that was when he had stepped into the light.

"...they placed me in the same chains you are in now," He said finishing his sentence.

I sat there silent as I stared upon him as he stared upon me. He......he looked just like Jack. Except he was taller and maybe 2 years older, his pitch black bangs and hair almost faded into the darkness. His tan skin was almost unable for me to see as he wore a black turtle neck with black jeans. But what scared me the most was his vibrant yellow eyes staring right into my very soul. He stood there silently, expressionless as he waited for me to speak.

"Who...who are you," I asked timidly.

"Oh Elsa, you don't recognize me," he spoke softly. Saraphine's voice popped into my head as my eyes became wide.

"Is that disguise you have on you?"

"P-Pitch," I asked timidly. He was silent for a moment as I saw an expression flashed in his eyes. He sighed bowing his head in shame.

"Yes."

"So the Pitch we usually see is..." I paused as he held his left arm straight out beside him. Black sand escaping his hand as it began to swirl and form. I watched quietly as the sand began to place itself and some of it changed color. Once the sand stopped, in it's place stood the Pitch that we usual see, the Pitch we thought was the real Pitch. I stared at it, astonished as it stood there limp and lifeless.

"...is a costume," Pitch said finishing my sentence. "A mask of pure terror," he then let his hand fall as the Pitch costume burst into sand and faded away.

"But why?" I asked him confused. He looked up at me, his eyes meeting mine once more as his vibrant yellow eyes dimmed to a regretful yellow.

"Why do you have to where a costume? What do you gain by hiding what you really look like?" I questioned.

"It's not what I'm trying to gain. It's what I'm trying to hide."

"What do you mean?"

"Who do I look like to you Elsa, who do I resemble that you know," he spoke calmly.

"You..." I inhaled as I kept his gaze. "You look like Jack."

He nodded solemnly as his face was expressionless. I cringed as I saw his face contorted in pain, a face that resembled Jack's, but a face that wasn't his at all. My hands balled into fist as I bit back the urge of asking if he was alright. Instead I said...

"But why?! Why do you look like Jack!?" I asked as my lower lip began to tremble.

"Because..."

He inhaled deeply as he bowed his head once more in frustration.

"Because I'm Jack's older brother."

"What?" I asked in a hushed whisper as the truth came crashing onto me.

"Well, I'm his half older brother."

"What? But...how? I-"

"When Henry Meyer, our father, married Jack's mother...he was already having an affair with Rachel Black, my mother. Henry and Rachel would meet regularly, sometimes he would stay a whole month, telling his wife that he was going on a business trip with his fellow workers. It was then...that I was born and 2 years later, Henry's wife had a baby. She had Jack. Years later, Henry's wife had Jill and that same year he left and came to be with us. I was 10 when I had gain my father back, but Jack was 8 when he lost his."

❄ Pitch's P.O.V, before he was a guardian ❄

My father would leave over periods of times, sometimes it would be years before he returned. I always wondered why my dad was never around. I remembered a time when I saw my mom in the kitchen, as she sat at the little wooden table we use to eat on. As she held her face in her hands as her vibrant green eyes gazed out the window. Her pitch black hair ending in curls as it draped her shoulders beautifully.

"Mama?" I spoke and she turned to look upon me. I was only 5 at the time, a small slim kid as my short black hair barely covered my forehead, allowing me to see with my vibrant green eyes. I was a spitting image of my mother and I guess she was glad about it. Because if no one could tell that I was Henry's, then my mother wouldn't be down graded to be called a whore. But I don't know why she would be called one, maybe because she wasn't married to dad yet? She smiled as she looked at me with loving compassion.

"What is it Pitch?" She asked sympathetically.

"Why does daddy leave for such a long time?"

She froze as she hesitated to answer my question. Something flashed in her eyes, something that I couldn't catch or understand. It was then she smiled, the corner of her lips pricking up as she held her arms out to me.

"Come here baby," she said sweetly. I walked into her arms as she picked me up and placed me on her lap. Her warm embrace spread through me as she held me tightly, the affection of a mother spreading through me. I gripped her shirt tightly as she placed her hand on the back of my head, stroking my black hair softly.

"You know your dad loves you, right?"

I nodded slowly.

"And that we would do anything in the world for you."

I nodded again. I could feel her smile against my head as she chuckled.

"Then you know that he will come back. He always does, he's just a very busy man. He has to work a long time so we can raise you. So you can live happily and be able to live how ever you want."

She paused as she exhaled sharply, painfully.

"So please be patient baby, he'll come back. He always comes back."

I nodded and she tightened her grip on me. Rocking me back and forth as she hummed a lullaby, calming me slowly, soothingly. I closed my eyes as I placed my head against my mother's chest, my forehead landing in the crook of her neck. The curly ends of her hair brushing lightly against my face as she continued to sing.

"I love you mommy," I whispered softly.

"I love you too Pitch," she kissed my forehead, her lips lingering to show her affection for me.

We sat there as my mother continued to hum. Soaking in the moment, the affection, letting the outside world stand still. In these moments we can finally breath, we can be ourselves, we can let reality wash away and live our dream...before reality comes crashing through our door. I inhaled, letting my lungs take in the smell that was my mother. I felt peaceful in this moment, when we were alone and secluded inside. Protected from the outside world, protected from judging and unwanting eyes. In this very moment I feel loved and wanted, needed as my mother clings onto me with her protecting loving arms.

Knock, Knock!

But of course...reality always crashes right back in. My mother sighed as she placed me down on the floor, her warmth leaving me as she stood up from her chair.

Knock, Knock!

"I'm coming, I'm coming." She yelled as she walked to the door as I trailed two feet behind her. She stopped and I stopped two feet behind her as she placed her hand on the door knob. She turned her hand, the door making a click sound as she pulled it open.

"How may I help-" She stopped in mid-sentence once she saw who was standing outside. The man smiled as his light brown eyes stared at her, his lips turning into a smile. His chestnut hair looking soft to the touch as my mom almost looked like she was going to cry.

"Hello, Rachel," he said her name passionately.

"Henry," she said in a hushed whisper. She threw her arms around his neck as he wrapped her in his embrace. I couldn't help but smile at how happy they looked, as they breathed to see each other, to hold each other.

"You're home," my mom said, trembling. The rims of her eyes threatening to let her tears escape.

"I'm home," my father spoke softly as he looked at her. Placing his forehead on hers before he placed a long and loving kiss upon her lips. I looked away, feeling embarrassed that I had just saw that. When I turned back to look at them they were staring lovingly at each other, it was then my father's eyes had widen.

"Oh, I wonder where my son could be?" He asked with a smirk.

"Well-"

"DADDY!" I yelled as I ran to him. He laughed as he bended down, his arms ready to catch me.

"There's my boy," he said as he caught me in his arms. Embracing me as he picked me up, holding me as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

"That's my boy," he whispered sweetly in my ear. I lingered in his embrace, feeling the warmth of my father spreading through me. I inhaled deeply as his strong arms wrapped around me tightly, prospectively. It was this time I had looked at my father, placing my hands on his shoulders as he continued to hold me. My vibrant green eyes gazing into his warm brown ones.

"I missed you daddy."

"I missed you too, I missed both of you." He said as he wrapped one of his arms around mom's waist. Pulling her to his chest as he hugged us both lovingly and painfully.

"God Pitch, look at how much you've grown. You look more like your mother day by day."

"Don't tell him that, he might think he'll turn into a girl." Mom said playfully as she snickered.

"WILL NOT!" I protested and the laughter of family had filled the household once again.

That day, dad was able to stay a whole week before he had to leave again. The days he had staid had filled the house with warmth and laughter, but on the day he left...the house became cold and silent once more. Waiting for the return of it's master to be filled with warmth and sound once again.

The kids in the village always thought I was strange. I didn't know why, maybe it was because the way I looked or...maybe it was the fact that I could find out someone's fear the moment I look at them. I don't know why or how I got this special ability, it just started happen ever since I turned the age of 7 and now there is this rumour going around about it. But the scariest part is...it's not a rumour at all, it's the truth.

I Pitch Black, age 10 can tell you your worst, darkest fears with just one look into your eyes.

"Hey Dark One! Why don't you leave!" A boy my age yelled as he threw a snowball at me. The snow flying as it came in contact with my right shoulder.

Dark One...is what my bullies call me. How original.

"Yeah, why don't you leave! So we don't have to see that ugly face of yours, freak!" His friend spoke as he nailed me with a snowball in my left shoulder. I turned around, my vibrant green eyes ablaze as I looked into their eyes.

"I would think twice before you mess with the one you call Dark One. Or are you too stupid to know when to turn back." I said menacingly.

"Who are you calling stupid, freak!"

"Jerome," The boy who threw the snowball at my right shoulder flinched as I spoke his name.

I smirked as my eyes glinted, "should you really be calling the person who can see inside your head a freak?"

"Leave him alone!" The other boy spoke.

"Or what? Issac," the boy flinched once he heard his name

"You can't hurt us!" Jerome yelled, snapping my head back to him.

"Yeah, that power you have is a fake," Issac yelled, agreeing with his companion.

"Oh really?" I said raising an eyebrow and they stood silent.

I grinned menacingly as I placed my hands in my coat pockets. I scanned their eyes with my own as I looked into the mind. Into the very being of their souls, I looked into it and searched, I searched for their weakness, their fear. There it was, in the very back in everyone's minds, the blackness of your soul where hate and envy resigns. There in the far corner of that black hole that resides in the soul...is your worst and darkest nightmare.

"Dark," I said as I looked at Jerome.

"What?" He responded dumbfounded.

"You heard me, your worst fear. A dark, cold, empty room. There are no doors as you wonder lost in that darkness. You scream for mommy and daddy..."

"S-shut up!" He said trembling.

"You scream and yet no one hears you, no one responds. And do you know why? It's because you think that they don't care, you feel unneeded, unwanted, an outcast."

"SHUT UP!" He yelled covering his ears.

"You scream as you run in circles, struggling to get out. Feeling every inch of that cold, slimy, stone wall. Then the room begins to shrink, the walls closing in around you as they are willing to crush you. You scream again, but no one hears. No one is there, there is no way out, and your about to-"

"LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Issac screams as he puts an arm in front of Jerome.

"Issac, your in a glass coffin underground."

"Shut up!"

"All you can see is dirt, there's no way out and no one is coming for you. Well...no one except...the spiders."

"No, No, Shut up!"

"They are out side your coffin, surrounding the glass as they try to break through it. You lay there panicking as your heart is pounding like crazy. Then you see the biggest spider, it's as big as your chest as it tries to break the glass right above your head. You scream as it begins to start taping on it, slowly but powerfully as every tap makes a long winding crack against the glass. Then, it taps the glass one more time and the whole coffin shatters and the spiders-"

"Be quite, please," he begs as he falls to his knees. His hands burying into the cold snow.

"Please, we beg you. Have mercy on us."

"Have you learned your lesson?" I asked calmly.

"Yes," Issac gasp.

"We won't bother you ever again," Jerome pleaded.

"Do you promise?"

"We promise Dark One," the said in unison.

"I have a name," I said sorrowful, quietly.

"We promise, Pitch."

"Good, now...go home," I told them turning away. They ran home, the slush of their feet on the snow played in my ears. I closed my eyes as I stuck my hands in my coat pockets, walking leisurely home as I inhaled the winter air.

That's right boys...run from your Dark One. But what they didn't know is once the Dark One speaks about your worst fear, the nightmares you have about it fade away. Giving you peaceful nights until you must be punished and the Dark One gives you back that nightmare for one night until you must be punished again.

Fear.

The thing that could make the strongest of men into crying children. Make an entire army turn their back against a war and run. Make a champion into a loser, a hero to a victim. Make the most mightiest elephant afraid of a mouse. Make a sane person to become insane. Can make you crumble if you just imagine it. Keeps you awake at night as you listen. Can make you back out of having true love. Keeps you from standing out or from performing on stage. Fear makes you become someone you are not.

But fear can also help you.

The fear of lost makes soldiers fight for their families. The fear of failure pushes you to succeed. The fear of booing makes you perform. The fear of hate makes you want to fit in. The fear of being alone makes you want to love. The fear of disease makes you want to be healthy. The fear of weakness makes you want to be and stay strong.

The fear of death makes you want to stay alive.

Fear.

Life's most deadliest weapon or life's motivation.
