Chapter 5 - No War
Backstage at the NXT arena, the post-show atmosphere was a flurry of activity. Wrestlers and staff bustled around, winding down from the night's events. Y/N L/N had just finished a quick debrief with his trainer and was heading toward the exit when he saw Tiffany Stratton waiting for him near the lockers.
Tiffany, looking more relaxed than she had earlier, stepped forward as Y/N approached. Her demeanor was different this time—less guarded and more open. Y/N couldn't help but notice the change.
"Hey, Y/N," Tiffany said, her voice carrying a tone of genuine gratitude. "Do you have a minute?"
Y/N stopped, his curiosity piqued. "Sure, what's up?"
Tiffany took a deep breath, collecting her thoughts. "I wanted to thank you again for earlier. You didn't have to step in, but you did. I appreciate that."
Y/N nodded, acknowledging her words. "No problem. Like I said, it didn't sit right with me to see those guys ganging up on you."
Tiffany looked around to ensure they had a bit of privacy before continuing. "It's just... I didn't expect you to be so... considerate. Given our history and all."
Y/N raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. "Yeah, I get it. I haven't exactly been the nicest guy lately. But sometimes, you just have to do what's right, no matter the personal stakes."
Tiffany seemed to relax a bit more, a small smile forming on her lips. "You know, I've been thinking. We've had our share of disagreements, but maybe we've been a little too quick to judge each other."
Y/N leaned against a nearby wall, crossing his arms. "Oh? And what brought that on?"
"Well," Tiffany began, hesitating slightly. "I guess seeing you step up and help out tonight made me realize there's more to you than just the tough exterior. And it made me think that maybe there's more to me, too."
Y/N chuckled, shaking his head. "It's funny how a bit of perspective can change things. What's on your mind?"
Tiffany looked thoughtful. "I've been so focused on my career and holding onto this title that I haven't really taken the time to understand the people around me. I've been quick to judge anyone who seems to threaten my spot. But maybe I should be more open to working together, or at least understanding where others are coming from."
"Sounds like you're having one of those moments of self-reflection," Y/N said, nodding. "It's not easy. I've had my share of rough patches and lessons learned. It's part of the journey."
Tiffany's eyes met his, and she seemed genuinely interested. "And what's your journey been like so far? You've made quite an impression in a short time."
Y/N sighed, contemplating his response. "It's been a whirlwind, honestly. I came in with a clear goal—make an impact, get noticed. And I've done that, but it's been a balancing act between staying true to myself and navigating the politics and relationships here."
Tiffany nodded, listening intently. "I can relate to that. The pressure to maintain my position and prove myself every day can be overwhelming. It's easy to get caught up in the struggle and forget that there's a whole team of people who are facing their own battles."
Their conversation continued, with Y/N and Tiffany delving into their personal experiences and perspectives. They discussed the challenges of balancing ambition with the need for respect, the pressure of living up to expectations, and the complexities of professional wrestling beyond the ring.
As they spoke, a sense of camaraderie began to develop. The walls between them seemed to lower, revealing more of their true selves. They discovered common ground in their ambitions and struggles, realizing that despite their differences, they shared similar goals and frustrations.
"Well," Tiffany said after a while, her tone more relaxed. "I think we've made some progress here. Maybe this is the start of a new understanding, or at least a bit of mutual respect."
Y/N nodded, a genuine smile on his face. "I'd like that. We don't have to be best friends, but we can be respectful colleagues."
Tiffany extended her hand, a gesture of newfound respect. "Agreed. Thanks for being open to this conversation. It's been... refreshing."
Y/N shook her hand firmly. "Likewise. And if you ever need backup, just remember, I'm not always as bad as I seem."
Tiffany laughed softly. "I'll keep that in mind."
As they parted ways, Y/N felt a sense of satisfaction. The conversation had been unexpected but valuable, marking a step towards a more nuanced understanding of his colleagues. With a final nod of acknowledgment, Y/N left the arena, reflecting on the night's events and the potential for new beginnings in his journey through NXT.
