UDATED Pokemon Champions Ranked

There are 11 Champions in all of the main series Pokemon games put together INCLUDING former Champions. Some regions share an Elite 4, when games received sequels/remakes their champion was changed, etc. Today, I'm Ranking all of the Regional Champions from Worst to Best INCLUDING Scarlet & Violet

How I am ranking each Champion will be very biased. As in, I rank each Champion based on how much I personally like them, how much of a challenge the Champion posed, how much they fit into the games story and plot and how memorable they were.

Before we start, I am NOT considering Hau or Professor Kukui for this ranking. They technically never were Champions BUT they fulfilled the post Elite 4 Battle that's SUPPOSED to belong to the regional Champion. Same is said about Nemona in Scarlet & Violet. She is Champion Ranked without being considered the regional Champion of Paldea. To put it simply, Nemona is as strong as the Champion but the public doesnt view her as one which REALLY doesnt make sense. Even after the player defeats Geeta, she's still considered the Regional Champion. But again technically they aren't champions so I won't bother to consider them.

Let's get on with the rankings shall we?

11. Alder-Pokemon Black & White

Alder, the regional Champion of the Black & White Games, is the worst of all the Champions. Sadly, everyone agrees with me on this one. He was barely part of the story, he played quite the pathetic part in the anime as he REFUSED to take on any challengers, despite that being his job, as he suddenly was a pacifist. Alder isn't memorable either. Lets not forget he's canonically not a Champion anymore either!!! This wasnt a choice decision, he was dethroned!!! YOU DONT EVEN FIGHT ALDER!!! Yeah you heard me, in every main series game you're required to fight the regional champion but in Black & White you don't fight Alder, at all. I mean, if you choose to rechallenge the Elite 4 in the Post Game, THEN you can finally challenge Alder. You aren't even required to fight the regional champion in order to become the champion which SUCKS! so yeah, reason why Alder is ranked so low is because he's a pathetic character you aren't required to challenge. On top of how he's not Champion anymore.

10. Geeta 'La Primera'-Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Chairwoman Geeta is the Champion of the Paldea Region in Scarlet & Violet. Geeta is a powerful woman, as in, she owns literally everything within the Paldea Region. She funds Uva/Naranja Academy, she hand picked all of the gym leaders, hand picked the Elite 4, runs the entire gym challenge/Elite 4. You name it, Geeta is most likely their boss. Or at least that's what Larry insinuates. Despite the presence and power Geeta holds over the Paldea Region, she is one of the most underwhelming Champions I've ever faced in battle. I went into the Elite 4 knowing that my team was underleveled, my Pokemon had low PP moves AND I had no intention on taking one of my Pokemon to the Elite 4 BUT I never found a good replacement for them so yeah... I had that going for me. Much to my surprise, I was one-shotting most of Geeta's team on top of how Geeta couldn't even battle correctly. Her Kingambit has the ability, Supreme Overlord, that allows its attack to increase by a percentage for every member of their team is knocked out. This ability is outlawed in competitive battling if that says how overpowered it is. Yet she sends out her Kingambit 2nd... if I was Geeta, I would've sent Kingambit out last. Also, for being a Champion, you would think her Terastal Pokemon could Terastalize into a different type than it already was, but it doesn't. Geeta just sucks as a battler!!!

9. Wallace-Pokemon Emerald

Everyone loves Wallace but NOBODY likes Wallace as a champion. In most iterations of Wallace, those being in the Sapphire, Ruby, Alpha Sapphire & Omega Ruby games, Wallace is the 8th/Last gym leader of Hoenn. When Emerald came out as a more ironed out version of Ruby & Sapphire, Wallace replaced Steven as Champion. Reason why nobody likes Wallace as a Champion is because he replaced Steven, a character who is MILES better than Wallace. It's not like Wallace defeated Steven in battle and dethroned Steven, cause if that was the case I'm 100% sure the fanbase would like Wallace more. In which it's actually very realistic for Wallace to defeat Steven because Steven specializes in Rock & Steel types while Wallace specializes in water and Ice types. Instead, Emerald rewrote the story as if Steven never bothered to become champion in the first place. Also, Wallace's Champion team is lackluster and entirely Water typed, EXACTLY the same as his Gym leader team. Wallace being a champion is never acknowledged in any other games OR the anime. Therefore, it's as if Wallace Being a champion never happened and that's why I ranked Wallace so low on the list.

8. Diantha-Pokemon X & Y

I do not care for Diantha. Not in the slightest. I feel that Diantha is the least memorable of all the Champions besides Wallace mainly due to how I literally cannot remember ANYTHING Diantha has said or done within X & Y. I've played Y quite a few times and again, still can't remember anything about Diantha. The first time I played Y and got to the Champion fight I saw Diantha and thought 'oh yeah... I forgot she exists.' Her team is also very lackluster as every single member of her team is weak to poison, steel and ice types. I ranked Diantha so low on the list due to the fact that I don't care for her & that her entire team is weak Therefore making her one of the easiest Champions Pokemon has put out there.

7. Lance-Champion of Kanto & Johto

Despite how much the fanbase absolutely idolizes Lance, I also don't exactly care for him. Lance is often labeled to be the best champion there ever lived. Being, he's crowned as the champion of both Kanto AND Johto and that he's only ever lost to one other person, that being Leon, the Champion of Galar. Lance also specializes in the Dragon typing, even being labeled as a Dragon Master. Lance doesn't exactly have variety on his team considering his entire team is a dual Flying type, BUT Lance takes pride in his team. He uses Pokemon that ARENT Dragon types but he firmly believes they SHOULD be Dragon types. This includes his Charizard of which is Fire Flying Typed, his Aerodactyl that is Rock Flying Typed and lastly his prized SHINY Red Gyarados that is Water Flying Typed. Lance is one of the only few characters in existence to canonically own a Shiny Pokemon. I know lots of people love Lance but personally he isn't my favorite especially compared to the top 4.

6. Mustard-Pokemon Sword & Shield

I feel like I might've ranked Mustard too low😅 Mustard is a former Galar Champion. In fact, Mustard was the last Champion of Galar prior to Leon. The Sword & Shield Isle of Armor DLC explored Mustard and the legendary Martial Art Pokemon that Mustard had taken under his wing. Mustard, had bought an island in the Galar Region that we know now as the Isle of Armor, and built a dojo where he takes on disciples and trains them up in the art of martial arts all the while teaching the secrets of Gigantamax. Mustard, despite knowing the Player wasn't supposed to be in his dojo, welcomed them in with open arms and kept with them throughout their journey. He KNEW the player could help out two of his disciples in particular, Avery & Klara, but also Mustard felt that his Kubfu, a Legendary Pokemon, was best off in the player's care. I particularly enjoyed Mustard due to his shared history with Leon & Hop as well as his fatherly personality as he lives up to the 'found family' theme. He's such a fun old timer who is arguably one of the strongest opponents in this entire game from having a Legendary on his team to the amount of variety he has. I mean yeah, he prefers Fighting types, but he has his bases covered.

5. Steven Stone-Pokemon Sapphire, Ruby, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

The fact that the second Steven was replaced in the games we ALL rampaged! Steven is the Hoenn Champion and one of few Champions to make appearances in games outside of Ruby & Sapphire. We all love and respect Steven as he's such a strong and respected character both and in & out of the games. Even his character design is AWESOME!!! I wish we had more characters that look as cool as he does! Much like Wallace of whom replaced Steven as Champion in Pokemon Emerald, Steven specializes in the Steel & Rock typing BUT atleast his team can still whoop some serious ass. Steven is also one of few Champions that utilizes battle gimmicks as in he's KNOWN for Mega Evolving his Metagross. His SHINY Metagross too might I add. Steven is a great character and worthy opponent and happy to place him here at Rank 4.

4. Iris-Pokemon Black 2 & White 2

The fact that Iris has canonically became Unova's Champion in both the games & anime is amazing in all honesty as prior weve never seen a Champion get replaced AND we havent seen a Champion become replaced ever since Iris. Us as fans got to witness Iris go from a regular run of the mill trainer who had trained under 8th Gym Leader Draden to then having surpassed her mentor, became a Dragon Master and dethrone Unova's Champion! It's so impressive!!! I also grew up on the Black & White Anime where Iris was one of the main characters. I also love how Iris is related to Champion Leon. It's like becoming a Champion runs in their blood! I ranked Iris so high due to how we got to witness her journey and you cannot deny that she is a cute yet fierce girl.

3. Steel Peony-Pokemon Sword & Shield

Unless you played the Sword & Shield Crown Tundra DLC, you'd have no idea that Steel Peony, Chairman Rose's older brother, is actually a former gym leader AND Galar Champion. Peony is a retired Gym leader who specializes in the Steel typing much like his brother. Peony then went onto successfully become a Champion. It was never said who dethroned him, let alone IF he was ever dethroned and he simply went into retirement, but Peony is still a great character nonetheless. It was interesting how Sword & Shield explored former Galar Champions in their DLCs as the Crown Tundra focused in on Peony and the mystery of the fallen king in particular. Peony is a bit of an overbearing father but it's so very evident that Peony his loves his daughter and brother more than anything. Despite being a Champion that specializes in a particular typing, which is normally where Champions face their downfall, Peony is still a strong dude! He took me by surprise that's for sure. Heck, he can take on Gigantamax Pokemon singlehandedly. Anyways, I'm particularly partial to Peony as he's just such a fun and loving dude to be around. He acted as the player's fatherly figure, often talking to and treating them like his own child. Gotta love Peony.

2. Leon-Pokemon Sword & Shield

I absolutely love Leon as a character through his role in the story. He's the most involved out of any other Champion we've ever gotten and he plays such a loving and iconic role as a big brother to not only the player but the rival. He's iconic in the fanbase as he's labeled as the Undefeated Champion, he's quite literally undefeated by everyone EXCEPT this is where I didn't put him at #1. He's Arguably one of the easiest to defeat Champion of all the games especially as of now when Scarlet & Violet just released alongside Geeta, a lackluster battler. Yes, Leon has a strong team with variety but because the difficulty level of Sword & Shield is so low it made Leon just as easy to defeat. Even his brother put up more of a challenge than Leon did. Sword & Shield wouldve saved Leon if the game was harder even in the slightest. Normally Champions have their Pokemon at level 70-80 but Leon's team never surpassed Level 60. Nevertheless, Leon is yes, an easy fight but I still absolutely love him as a character.

1. Cynthia-Pokemon Diamond, Pearl & Platinum

A fan favorite in all her glory. Cynthia is the hardest Champion Pokemon has ever given us AND has made the most appearances outside of her origin game. Unlike Steven & Leon where they use Mega Evolution & Gigantamax to give themselves an edge in battle, Cynthia doesn't need gimmicks to still be a challenging opponent. I mean yeah, in the anime Cynthia is shown to have adopted the Mega Evolution mechanic on her Garchomp but even before then Cynthia was packing a punch. I also love Cynthia design wise, who doesn't? We've also been introduced to her ancestors in Legends Arceus and I can't help but to love Cynthia even more as a Champion. Hands down, over all, Cynthia puts all the other Champions to shame. It's also a shame that Cynthia has gone into retirement and has forfeited her Champion Title, so I look forward to seeing who Cynthia passes the torch to. Even if she might be a little overrated but hey, we still love her nonetheless.

Who's your favorite Champion?
