Top 10 Food Pokemon
There's so many subtypes of Pokemon out there from Human-Mon to dogs to what we're talking about today: Food Pokemon. Food Pokemon are what their names suggest: They're Pokemon that ARE food or are based around food. People often like to poke fun at Food Pokemon, often calling them uncreative and that 'Pokemon is out of ideas'. Well screw them!!! I actually really like food-mon.
So today, I'm going over my personal favorites of the Food Pokemon category.
1. Polteageist
It's more of a teapot Pokemon than a tea/Food Pokemon but I especially love this little guy. Polteageist is a ghost type Pokemon that finds home within antique teapots. It's ghostly body acts as the tea within the teapot. These guys inhabit old teapots in hopes that a human will mistaken them for an actual teapot. When humans digest Polteageist's mistakening them for tea, Polteageist will posses their unfortunate host. In real life Pokemon cafes around the world, you can order special drinks where you can get a special experience where you can pour out a drink from a Polteageist after rubbing its teapot like a genie's lamp! Polteageist is just so cute, I love its Lore and how Pokemon utilizes these cute little guys.
2. Alcreamie
Pokemon really popped off in Generation 8 when it came to Food-Mon! Alcreamie was the first Pokemon ever introduced from Gen 8/Sword & Shield in advertisements as it's Gigantamax Form takes the form as a towering layered cake. Alcreamie on its own is a whipped cream Pokemon with 50+ forms. Alcreamie was an entire gimmick on its own as you went about Sword and Shield, challenging cafes and collecting different decorations/evolution material for Milcery. Depending on which decoration was equipped to Milcery and how quickly your character spun in circles, it would determine what your Alcreamie would look like upon evolution. I myself was trying to get all 50 forms of Alcreamie, I failed, but it was fun while I tried.
3. Fidough
The internet broke when Fidough was introduced in the Scarlet & Violet trailers as Fidough is an adorable bread dough puppy. Known as the 'Yeast Pokemon' Fidough is a puppy made out of uncooked dough who are treasured by bakers as their breath consists of 'yeast-like Properties'. Fidough is perfect in everyday as it's adorable and perfectly utilized its pun of a name. Even its evolution: Dachsbun is another pun in and of itself as it's a bread dog based on the Dachshund dog breed. Dachsbun = Dachshund. Clever indeed.
4. Swirlix
Although it's evolution: Slurpuff, is a widely disliked Pokemon, I myself am quite fond of Swirlix. Swirlix is a cotton candy dog Pokemon and it's awful cute. Nothing else to it though, it's a cute cotton candy dog.
5. Tatsugiri
Tatsugiri is a new Pokemon as of Scarlet & Violet and known as the False Dragon Titan. Tatsugiri is immediately remembered as a sushi Pokemon and although it's design doesn't exactly make the most sense, cause why does a Pokemon look like Sushi, a man made food, when it lives out in the wild? Tatsugiri also has a symbiotic relationship with Dondozo, another Pokemon and i honestly adore their relationship. Anyways, I've yet to find anyone who dislikes Tatsugiri and I personally am fond of them for their variety of colors and cuteness.
6. Appletun
Both widely loved and disliked in the fanbase due to its design, Appletun is an apple pie dragon Pokemon. Yes, an apple pie dragon sounds like a weird design choice, and honestly it kind of is and thats where its backlash comes from, but I 100% see the charm of it. It's like a big puppy who goes about the world at its own pace. Plus, nobody can forget the hype when Pokemon released a life sized plush of Appletun. It's melted hearts around the globe!!! Too bad I can't justify spending $100 to get one😅
7. Vanillite
The go to Pokemon ALOT of Pokemon fans and haters go to when saying 'Pokemon ran out of ideas', I disagree. Vanillite is an ice cream Pokemon while it's evolutions are ALSO ice cream cone Pokemon. Vanillite in particular is small, simple, cute and makes me smile. If you ask me, it's an ice cream Pokemon done right while it's evolutions DID go a little too far into the corny territory.
8. Tsareena
The Bounsweet line is based on the Mangosteen. The Mangosteen is nicknamed the 'Queen of Fruits' hence why Tsareena wears a crown AND why the Bounsweet line can only be female. After learning the inspiration for these Pokemon, I have a newfound respect for them as their design choices make more sense. I've always loved Tsareena because it's a humanoid Pokemon done correctly AND it dominates out on the field. I've used one on more than a few occasions and I feel like Tsareena doesn't get enough recognition.
9. Cherrim
Known as the Cherry Blossom Pokemon, Cherrim is an adorable little thing with a weather gimmick as it can change forms depending on the weather. They're just always happy and a treat to be around.
10. Exeggcute
It's HIGHLY debated on whether Exeggcute is a food Pokemon or not. They look like eggs, have egg in their name, but are actually seeds hence why they're grass type. Exeggcute consists of a bunch of egg-like Pokemon, and each one has a unique personality of their own. Despite being a Gen 1 Pokemon, it's definitely one of the more forgotten Pokemon out there. I just love their personalities, especially the one with the 😒 expression!!!
