Things I DONT Want From Pokemon

Things I DONT Want in Pokemon

To go alongside the update I posted the other day of things I WANT from the Pokemon series going forward, today's update will go over the things I DONT want from the Pokemon series going forward. Today's update will go over game functions or plots that I don't like & hope Pokemon will abandon in the future. Or, I'll speak of things I hope Pokemon will NEVER do to its games in the future.

Some things I'll bring up are exact points I spoke of in the previous update however BUT I'll go more in depth into them.

1. No More Child Protagonists!

Have you noticed that the more games Pokemon puts out, the younger the protagonist gets? I DONT want child protagonists anymore!!! I feel that the younger our protagonist gets, the more dumbed down & innocent the gameplay & plot becomes. I am tired of it! Maybe it's just me, I haven't had a problem with the age of the protagonist till recently due to the fact that I began playing Pokemon at the age of 4. At the age of 4, ALL protagonists were older than myself. The oldest Protagonists that come to mind in my youth would be Hilda & Hilbert who are 15, Wes who is 20+, & Serena and Calem who are 17. Everyone else is 12 or younger. The older I got however, the Protagonists just seemed to get younger & younger with Pokemon X & Y being an exception. Our YOUNGEST protagonists are in Pokemons two more recent games might I remind you! The Protagonist of Pokemon Snap is 8 years old and so are the protagonists of Scarlet & Violet. Much of the fanbase think the protagonists are getting progressively younger and younger due to how Pokemon wants to appeal to a bigger audience. You gotta avoid adult themes & complex storylines in order to appeal to children right? This is where I wish Pokemon would take notes from Kingdom Hearts, another video game franchise. Kingdom Hearts is very wholesome & fun on the outside when in reality the plot is overly complex & VERY dark. I wish Pokemon would go in THIS direction. If Pokemon seriously wishes the keep their protagonists young, they can still adopt a heavier approach. But if the company won't, then abandoning child protagonists might be the direction they should go.

2. No More Themed Trainers

What I mean by themed trainers, I mean trainers that specialize in particular typings. In Sword & Shield I was so underwhelmed & disappointed by the fact that EVERY SINGLE TRAINER specialized in a particular type except for Hop, Leon & Oleana. I get that Marnie & Bede eventually went on to become gym leaders BUT they shouldve been their own trainer before hand. What's the chance that Bede captures ONLY psychic types on his journey or Marnie capturing ONLY Dark types. I literally could walk into any battle with one Pokemon strong against their specialized type & come out the Victor. I am alright however with themed gym leaders & Elite 4 since they've specialized in particular types since the first Pokemon game. I just hope that Pokemon learns from their mistakes and DONT make every single trainer specialize in one typing ever again.

3. No More Mewtwo

Yeah I said it. Please stop bringing back Mewtwo!!! It's kind of like Shadow from the Sonic the Hedgehog Series. Mewtwo was supposed to be a one time thing BUT it's such a fan favorite Pokemon has no other choice but to bullshit some ridiculous reason in order to bring Mewtwo back. I'm sorry, Mewtwo doesn't need to be involved anymore and I'm tired of seeing it all over the place. Please put Mewtwo to rest for good. Same is said to Charizard!!!!

4. Internet Access Only Games/Pay To Play

I hope Pokemon never makes ANOTHER game or has functions where you need a Nintendo Online Pass/Membership in order to play. Pokemon sadly already does this. Pokemon Unite is an Internet Access only game that the company has put out. Meaning, there's literally nothing you can do on the game unless you have an internet pass. Furthermore, You cannot partake in Player Pokemon trades of any kind in any Pokemon Games released on the Switch. This also includes Wonder Trades & Player Vs Player battles. All of this used to be free when Pokemon was on the DS so it hurts to see Pokemon forcing you to pay for an internet pass in order to use it nowadays. HOWEVER this might not be Pokemon's choice as Nintendo seems to charge you literally everywhere you go in order to use online services. Still, all of this sucks and I hope Pokemon can bypass Nintendo's Internet Pay to Play restrictions in the future as it HEAVILY feels like the company is nickle and diming you everytime you turn around.

5. Games That Can Only Be Played On TV

I am speaking for those of you who play Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee. This game requires you to play with your Switch docked to a TV as it requires motion controls. This game has motionless controls for those who only own the Switch Lite. HOWEVER these two games still heavily handicap the player as Pro Controllers aren't supported for these games & they encourage you to buy physical additions/gear such as the Pokeball Plus in order to make your gaming experience easier. No, just no! This is Pokemon's way of forcing you to spend more money on their merchandise. To be fair, this game came out BEFORE the Switch Lite was introduced but any games that you can't play in handheld mode feels like a waste of money to be honest. In all honesty, I rarely play with my Switch NOT connected to my TV. However, the biggest selling point of the Switch is that you can play games on the road or on your TV. Making games that require you to play in one particular mode feels like a gigantic inconvenience!

6. Mix Match Fossil Pokemon

WE ALL agree that the four fossil Pokemon that Sword & Shield gave us were abominations, literally. They're fossils that you mix and match in order to make a new Pokemon. Such as a bird fossil being merged with a fish fossil. It sounds good on paper but it was executed HORRIBLY!!! All of these fossil Pokemon look like abominations & that they look painful. I want to put them out of their misery!!! Nobody uses these fossil pokemon either by the way. So I hope Pokemon never brings the whole 'create a new species of Pokemon' thing back ever again.

7. The Watt System

I'm pretty sure that the Watt System is going to be exclusive to Sword & Shield but I swear, unless you got the DLC, there was no point in collecting Watts. Watts are a form of currency in Sword & Shield and unless you completed the main story, you don't collect many Watts from around the Wild Area. Watts can be used to buy specific pokeballs, Wishing Stars, curry ingredients or TMs. Thing is, it was easier to raid Max Dens in order to collect the powerful TMs and wishing stars. Talking to players while your internet was on gave you FREE curry ingredients. All of the special pokeballs you can buy with Watts can be found in various cities across the game. So the game literally defeated the purpose of its own system UNLESS you got the DLC in which it optionally tasks you with collecting a few million Watts. The Watt system was a very useless & broken system that I hope NEVER makes a comeback.

8. Unnecessary Outfit Changes

I LOVE ride Pokemon. Ride Pokemon were introduced in Pokemon Sun & Moon as the Player could call upon & borrow a Pokemon in order to complete specific tasks such as getting over rocky terrain, finding items, traversing water, etc. The ride Pokemon concept was brought back into Legends Arceus & Done EXACTLY the way it should be. So what's my issue with Ride Pokemon. I HATE the outfits you were forced to wear when riding Ride Pokemon in Sun & Shield. They were ugly and weren't customizable. Depending on your gender the color would change. That's it. So if you happened to be riding a Pokemon when a Pokemon attacks, your ugly attire follows you into battle. The same is said about the Rotom bicycle outfit the player wears in Sword & Shield. It was ugly & Rotom themed. I don't see why the player needs to change outfits based On what they're riding. They've never had to change outfits on a bike in the past but suddenly they have to wear an entire get up. At least this time around you could pick what colors your outfit was. Please end outfit changes when riding bikes/Pokemon!!!

9. No More Weather Legendaries

I'm specifically talking about the Unovan Weather Trio: Thundurus, Landorus & Tornadus. Now I'm not saying nobody likes this trio, but they weren't well received legendaries in the first place since they didn't play a part in the story of Pokemon Black & White other than being optional to catch. More than 10 years later, Legends Arceus gave us ANOTHER addition to this no longer Weather Trio. It's a Fairy type that specializes specifically in the season of Spring named Enamorus. I'm sorry, I hate this thing. It's a monstrosity. I genuinely don't get why it was made, now it's extinct as of the current timeline. I feel like the only reason it was made was so that Legends Arceus could introduce a new legendary. I've heard NOTHING good about Enamorus and I don't think any of us want anymore additions to the Weather Genies.

10. Linear Gyms

I could be wrong but there's only one Pokemon game where you DONT have to face the gyms in a certain order and that'd be Diamond, Pearl & Platinum. Although you do have to face the gyms in a certain order to an extent In said games, gyms 3-6 could he faced in any order you wanted in their origin game. Thing is Pokemon DOESN'T do this anymore. Facing Gyms in a specific order was a BIG deal in Sword & Shield and it'll most likely remain this way. Although, if the chance to tackle gyms in any order were to become available again, I know that quite a bit of players won't stray away and tackle the gyms in chronological order as they know best. Thing is, in the anime it is an established thing that you can tackle gyms in any order and depending on how many badges you have, the gym leader will have a Pokemon team JUST for your level/skill set. I WISH they'd bring this back & abandon the linear way of tackling the gyms.

What about you, do you not want any of these game functions to ever come back?
