Pokemon Who Evolved LATER
To put it simply... Pokemon of whom didn't originally evolve.
An update requested by bakulover25 and I'm happy to talk about it!
There's SO many Pokemon out there of whom debuted in early Pokemon games that I believe Pokemon originally planned to be single stage Pokemon BUT for one thing or another, they received new evolutions much much later in the future. When I mean much later, the Pokemon in question didn't recieve a new evolution till 5+ years later.
Reason why I'm so happy to talk about this subject is because when I was replaying the 2004 title Pokemon Colosseum as of recently, I realized that half of the Pokemon you're able to capture in the game are... Useless. Being, they're Pokemon of whom never recieved an evolution till AFTER the game released, therefore they don't evolve at all and are weak AF. Every Pokemon that was featured in this game that didn't have an evolution at the time includes Misdreavus, Murkow, Aipom, Yanma, Sneasle, Gligar, Dusclops, Qwilfish, Stantler, Piloswine, Togetic, Snorunt, Ralts, Roselia, Nosepass, Magneton, Farfetch'd, Magmar, Lickitung, Electabuzz and lastly Rhydon. Yeah um... That's a lot of Pokemon of whom were next to useless at the time.
So today, I'll be talking about the MY Top 10 Pokemon of whom recieved an evolution AFTER the game/generation they debuted in.
1. Basculin
Personally, I'm surprised Basculin never had an evolution in its debut game. Basculin debuted in the game Black & White in 2010 & didn't recieve and evolution till 12 years later in Pokemon Legends Acreus in 2022. Basculin's evolution is quite interesting. It's evolution, Basculegion, is water ghost typed because it's made up of the dead souls of Basculin that were fished & eaten. It's actually quite morbid if you think about it but I'm thankful for this evolution. We as the fanbase knew this Pokemon HAD to get an evolution someday & Pokemon delivered.
2. Stantler
Going from one of the most forgotten & bland Pokemon to a worthy teammate, Stantler debuted in the game Gold & Silver in 1999. It wasn't until Pokemon Legends Arceus, released in 2022, that Stantler FINALLY recieved an evolution. This is 23 years AFTER Stantler's debut! In Legends Arceus, Stantler evolves into a sadly extinct Pokemon named Wierdeer. Yes, you heard me right, you'll only find Stanter's evolution in Legends Arceus as Wierdeer is unfortunately extinct as of the current time of the main games. Wierdeer takes inspiration from a real life extinct animal called the Megalcero of which is known as a prehistoric deer with impressive antlers! So cool inspiration & the evolution was worth waiting for. I've even personally used Wierdeer on my team and it's a great Pokemon indeed!
3. Sneasle
Over the years, Sneasle has recieved two evolutions since it's debut in Gold & Silver in 1999. Which i find weird since Sneasle is surprisingly capable on its own in battle & i thought it was fine without an evolution. Especially since the means of evolving Sneasle was ridiculous to the point youre better off just sticking with Sneasle over troubling yourself with evolution. Seven years later in 2006 Sneasle received the evolution Weavile in Diamond & Pearl. It remains an Ice Dark type & is highly sought after for its insanely high speed Stat. In 2022, 23 years after Sneasle's debut, Sneasle recieved ANOTHER evolution in Pokemon Legends Arceus called Sneasler. It's a mountain climber that's Poison Fighting typed. It's interesting how Sneasler has recieved a new evolution 23 years after it's debut.
4. Farfetch'd
Farfetch'd, a duck Pokemon that was released in the original 151 Pokemon in Red & Blue in 1996, was never supposed to evolve... A second stage was planned since the first game as seen in the coding of Red & Blue & well as it's concept art, but there's a reason why Farfetch'd is named the way it is. We went 23 years before Sword & Shield gave the fanbase what they forever wanted in 2019. Farfetch'd, although in my opinion it never evolved, got an evolution named Sirfetch'd of which is ridiculously difficult to obtain. It becomes a fighting type, turns white & now wields a sword & shield made from its iconic leek. If you could successfully evolve Galarian Farfetch'd, it's a worthy Pokemon to have with its impressive move set and stats. Props to Pokemon for listening to the fanbase and finally giving us an evolution to Farfetch'd.
5. Linoone
A Pokemon that didn't need an evolution but I'm thankful for it. Linoone is a Badger Pokemon that debuted in Pokemon Sapphire & Ruby in 2002. Zigzagoon & Linoone are available early game and admittedly not many of us took this two stage Pokemon with us to the Elite 4. It caught EVERYONE by surprise when Sword & Shield 2019 unvield their first few Pokemon for the new generation & it was regional forms for Zigzagoon & Linoone. And little did we know, Linoone was receiving a 3rd stage as well named Obstagoon. This regional trio takes after rockstar Gene Simmons of KISS & the UK Badger. I never knew Linoone needed a new evolution but heck yes we love it. It's a strong and awesome looking Pokemon & quickly became one of my all time favorite Pokemon. Way to give a middle of the road and forgotten Pokemon a new coat of paint that took 17 years to do.
6. Electabuzz, Rhydon, Lickitung, Magneton & Magmar
Why do I have five Pokemon under one entry? Because these five Pokemon all debuted in the first Pokemon games, Pokemon Red & Blue in 1996, and all of them didn't recieve a new evolution, or to be technical a new FINAL evolution till Pokemon Diamond, Pearl & Platinum in 2006. Ten years later!!! Why did so many Gen 1 Pokemon get final evolutions in this game? I don't know but I'm rolling with it. Oddly enough I never think of most of these Gen 1 Pokemons final evolutions except for Electabuzz & Magmar. I won't deny however that they all NEEDED a new evolution and Diamond & Pearl delivered. In this game Lickitung becomes Lickilicky. Magneton becomes Magnezone. Magmar becomes Magmortar. Electabuzz becomes Electivire & Rhydon becomes Rhyperior.
7. Meowth
Would this be considered cheating to put Meowth on here despite how it already can evolve? Well, I'm actually going to talk about the Galarian Meowth and how it has a brand new evolution that ISNT Persian unlike it's Kantonian & Alolan counterparts. Meowth debuted in 1996 in the original 151 Pokemon including its original evolution Persian. Admittedly, I don't like Persian... Alola's Persian was a straight up eyesore & gives Meowth a bad reputation. While Admittedly we didn't need another regional form
For Meowth, let alone a new evolution, I'm not complaining! I genuinely like Perrserker! I've used it in two of my playthroughs of Sword & Shield released in 2019. It's took 23 years to get Meowth this evolution and thats scary the more I think about it. I like Perrserker because its a bipedal just like it's pre evolution unlike Kanto & Alola where they somehow go from Bipedal to a Quadruped. The steel typing is interesting and Galarian Meowth & Perrserker actually has an interesting history. They're Steel typed due to how these two were raised on the roaring seas upon ships as vikings! Therefore they're barbaric by nature & had to harden up due to how harsh sea life is. I will forever prefer Galarian Meowth & Perrserker over their Kanto & Alolan counterparts.
8. Togetic
Honestly, I think it would've been just fine if Togepi remained a single stage Pokemon due to how beloved it was in the anime, everyone sees Togepi's final evolution to be one of the most useful & broken Pokemon in existence. Togepi & it's evolution, Togetic, debuted in Gold & Silver in 1999 & recievd their final evolution, Togekiss, in Diamond & Pearl in 2006 seven years later. Did they need a new evolution? No but everyone seems to adore Togekiss since it's a Fairy Flying type with Legendary Pokemon level stats. Actually, Togekiss was originally a Normal Flying type prior to the introduction of Fairy types. Any Fairy type is overpowered. Clearly the Togepi line benefitted from receiving an evolution in later generations cause I never see anyone pass up on a Togekiss.
9. Snorunt
Much like with the Meowth Entry earlier, technically Snorunt had recieved an evolution in its introductory game BUT it received a branched evolution years later. Snorunt debuted in Ruby & Sapphire in 2002 of whom evolves into Glalie. Four years later in Diamond & Pearl 2006 Snorunt recieved a branched evolution named Frosslass. Snorunt can evolve into Glalie upon leveling up & any gender. Snorunt can evolve into Frosslass, a ghost ice type, ONLY if it's female & given a dawn stone. Honestly, both evolutions are very capable in battle. Frosslass was unexpected as an evolution BUT I love it!!! If given the chance I always put Frosslass on my team. If you want a Pokemon with high physical attack, evolve your Snorunt into Glalie. If you want high special attack & more type coverage, go with a Frosslass.
10. Scyther
Scyther has recived two evolutions over the years AFTER it's debut game. Scyther is one of the original 151 in Red & Blue of 1996 and it's already a capable Pokemon in battle & beloved in the fanbase. Three years later in 1999, Scyther recieved a new evolution in Gold & Silver named Scizor. Honestly, I had no clue at first that Scizor was an evolution of Scyther. Especially since Scyther was a menace in battle & most people are unaware of how to evolve it in the first place. Well, give Scyther a Metal Coat & it'll evolve into the Steel Bug typed Scizor. 26 years later in Legends Arceus in 2022, Scyther recieved ANOTHER evolution. One of the first new Pokemon Legends Arceus teased was Scyther's new evolution, Kleavor. Kleavor is a Bug Rock type & I absolutely love it! It's a beast in battle & looks phenomenal. In order to get your hands on a Kleavor, give your Scyther a Black Augurite. In all honesty, Scyther never needed another evolution but I'm glad we got one.
