Pokemon Theories

Pokemon Theories!

Pokemon Theories are a hot topic in the Pokemon community. Oftentimes our theories end up being true or we believe these theories as a fact as there's no way they can't be fake from there being heaping amounts of evidence to how logical they just sound.

Some of these are my personal favorites and truly believe as a fact! Others I've heard and make for a good argument.

Here are 10 convincing theories from the Pokemon community.

1. N is a Zoroark

N is the main antagonist of Pokemon Black & White as well as a fan favorite. You might think it's odd that a theory suggests N is a Zoroark, but there's HEAPING amounts of evidence that supports this theory. It's no secret that N has connections to Zoroark from owning a Zorua in his youth to having a Zoroark on his team at the end of Pokemon Black & White. As of Pokemon Black & White 2, wherever N goes, a Zoroark follows whether you're aware of it or not. From the Zorua one of his relatives gifts to. Or if we fast forward to the Post game, if you visit N's Castle, you'll be greeted by a Zoroark who will then lead you through the castle. Once you reach the castle summit, N is the only person there and the Zoroark is nowhere to be seen despite how you literally just followed it up there. After you have your monologe with N, and he gives you his Reshiram/Zekrom, he leaves the castle. Or does he? After you follow after N, you NEVER see N again and a Zoroark stalks you throughout the rest of the castle. Mysterious ain't it?

It should also be noted that N isnt Ghetsis' biological son despite the fact how they look related from their skin color, their eyes and hair color. If you look at N and a Zoroark side by side, you realize that N and Zoroark have the exact same hair, just different coloration. Also, isn't it weird that N is the only human that can understand and communicate with Pokemon?

The only logical explanation for EVERYTHING would be that N is a Zoroark. When Ghetsis found N as a child, he was initially a Zorua. The Zorua in question changed its form to look similar to Ghetsis hence why they look related despite NOT being related. It's a theory I realized when I initially played Black & White when it came out 10+ years ago and still stand by it. What about you? Do you think N is a Zoroark?

2. Volcarona created the Desert Resort

Most know that most if not all of the Pokemon games have a desert area within them whether it makes sense for them to be there or not. This desert area is usually incorporated in order for the player to find rock & ground type Pokemon. What if I told you the desert area aka The Desert Resort in Black & White actually has a logical reason for being there? Black and White is a Pokemon game set in real life New York of the United States. There isnt Deserts in New York. Found within these games is the Desert Resort, a sort of random patch of desert thrown smack dab into the middle of the region. Found within the Desert Resort is a maze you can traverse and at the end of the maze is a Volcarona. Why does a non-legendary Pokemom have such a large event in the game? Because this particular Volcarona is the reason the Desert Resort exists!

So, how exactly is Volcarona responsible for creating the Desert Resort? If you read Volcarona's Pokedex Entry, you learn that this Pokemon has the power of the sun at its disposal. This Pokemon may not be a Legendary or Mythical, but it has the power of one. Because Volcarona resides in the Desert Resort, the sheer power and heat this Volcarona wields resulted in the Resort turning into a desolate wasteland hence why you'll only find ghost, fire and ground types here.

Do you think Volcarona is the reason why the Desert Resort exists?

3. Gengar is Cleffable's Shadow

Another theory the fanbase seems to accept as fact is how Gengar is Cleffable's Shadow. I'll get straight to the point with this one. Cleffable and Gengar have the exact same silhouette/body shape. Their types are exact opposites of one another. Cleffable originally being a normal type, now a Fairy while Gengar is a ghost type. Cleffable is sweet and elegant while Gengar is a Mischievous trickster that gets off on scaring people to death. These two pokemon look almost exactly the same all the while being polar opposites. Let's not forget how in both of their Pokedex entrys, these two Pokemon draw power from the full moon.

I believe this one as fact!

4. Allister's Mask WAS a real Corsola at one point in time

The most recognizable feature on Allister is how he wears a spooky mask and never takes it off. It is confirmed in Allister's League Card that the mask Allister wears is supposed to look like a Galarian Corsola, a ghost type Pokemon. On Allister's Pokemon team you learn that he owns a Cursola, the evolution of Galarian Corsola.

Where the theory comes in is that the mask Allister wears WAS his Galarian Corsola. Which sounds really morbid upon hearing it, but it surprisingly makes sense.
When Galarian Corsola evolves, it looses its outer shell of a body for a ghostly form. The theory suggests that Allister had captured his Cursola as a Galarian Corsola, evolved it, then repurposed the shell Corsola left behind as the mask he wears today. Corsola is known for being hunted by Maraenie for their shells as well as being hunted by humans in order to make jewelry, so Allister repurposing his Pokémon's abandoned shell doesn't sound like such a bad thing after all. It's not like Allister killed Corsola in order to obtain his mask. It's just like when us humans in real life repurpose bird feathers or deer antlers when they drop/shed them.

Makes perfect sense to me! I believe this as a fact!

5. Venomoth & Butterfree were mixed up?

This theory that the Venomoth & Butterfree lines were mixed up seems VERY plausible and it only has to do with their designs. Caterpie and Metapod share more similarities to Venomoth than Butterfree while Venonat shares more similarities to Butterfree than Venomoth.
Venonat and Butterfree both have similar colors, the exact same eyes, the same mouth and they both have antennae. Meanwhile with Venomoth, Caterpie & Metapod, they all have similar eyes and foreheads/head pieces. The only reason I DONT believe these lines were mixed up is because moth caterpillars are known for being furry and venonat is indeed a furry caterpillar-esque creature while butterfly caterpillars aren't furry and Caterpie isn't furry. HOWEVER smooth skin caterpillars can indeed belong to either moths or butterfly.

It seems very likely the Butterfree and Venomoth lines were mixed up, however there's evidence supporting and going against this theory.
What do you think?

6. Ghastly are deceased Cloyster

This sounds weird right? I mean, I haven't heard this theory till about a few months ago, but after listening to a convincing argument by HoopsandHipHop on YouTube, I'm convinced! This theory suggests that Ghastly is the product of a deceased Shelder/Cloyster.
Ever since the introduction of regional variants, quite a few of our regional variants depict certain pokemon as a product of worldly pollution. Galarian Weezing depicts air pollution, Galarian Corsola represents water pollution and coral bleaching/the mass loss and death of coral reefs, while Galarian Grimer & Muk represent human waste. I mean, Grimer and Muk are sludge/trash Pokemon in general but whatever. While Ghastly being deceased Cloyster actually has nothing to do with Pollution, Ghastly formerly being Cloyster is still a product of us humans!

To put it simply, even in real life, we murder oysters in order to harvest their pearls in order to make jewelry. Pearls do indeed exist in the Pokemon universe, they're highly sought after items that fetch really high prices at stores and guess who the only oyster Pokemon are? Yup, Shelder and Cloyster. The theory suggests that humans mass murder Shelder and Cloyster and their souls manifest into Ghastly. Why else does Ghastly have the exact same face and color as Cloyster? Furthermore why is Ghastly a non-solid gaseous form while Haunter & Gengar ARE solidified figures?

While this one is debatable, I can see it being canon though.

7. Calyex's Steed was originally a Rapidash

Calyrex is the new mythical Pokemon introduced in the Crowne Tundra DLC for Sword & Shield. Calyrex is a Pokemon that saved the citizens of the Crowne Tundra by allowing crops to grow in this winter wasteland, preventing starvation. Until suddenly, Calyrex disappeared, and so did the ability to grow crops and all that remained was a statue of Calyrex depicted as riding a noble horse Steed. Bringing Calyrex back, finding his steed and saving the Crowne Tundra was the entire plot of the DLC. However, which Steed Calyrex rode is the big question as the player can choose which Steed Calyrex can ride. An ice typed horse named Glastrier and a Ghost typed horse named Spectrier. Thing is, neither horse is the incorrect choice, and that's where the theory comes in.

Which horse IS the actual Steed Calyrex rode in the past?
Calyrex cannot remember which horse he rode and the statue in the village of the Crowne Tundra depicts Calyrex as riding ONE horse and it doesn't look like either Spectrier or Glastrier. Therefore, neither horse IS the horse Calyrex rode. A theory states that Spectrier and Glastrier used to be the same Pokemon and that Pokemon would be Galarian Rapidash. This theory claims that Calyrex used to ride a Galarian Rapidash and upon Calyrex's mysterious dissappearance, said Rapidash eventually died by freezing to death in the Tundra. Upon Calirex's resurrection, so did his Rapidash! Glastrier is the frozen Corpse of Rapidash while Spectrier is the Ghost or soul of this fallen Rapidash. The equivalent of Heartless(The Soul) & Nobodies(Soulless bodies) from Kingdom Hearts. Cause if you look at Galarian Rapidash and Spectrier side by side, they look almost exactly the same but with minor physical and color differences.

This theory is actually very plausible for the reasons stated above AS WELL AS because this is something Pokemon has done in the past. Yes, I'm talking about the Pokemon Nincada. Nincada is a bug type Pokemon introduced in the Hoenn region. When Nincada evolves, it becomes two Pokemon: Ninjask & Shedinja. Ninjask is the Nincada after it evolves while Shedinja is the skin or cocoon of the Nincada that took on a soul of its own hence why its a ghost type. Just like how when a bug or snake gets too large it'll shed its outer skin.

Nincada, Spectrier & Glastrier are more similar than we realize and I believe this theory as fact.

8. The Fire Starter Pokemon are based on the Chinese zodiac

This is a long standing theory NOT fact by the way. Many have theorized that the fire starter Pokemon are determined by the Chinese Zodiac. And for the most part is DOES hold up, there's holes in it.

Here are the CORRECT starter Pokemon on the Chinese Zodiac:
Charizard is the Dragon
Blaziken is the Cock
Infernape is the Monkey
Emboar is the Pig
Incineroar is the Tiger
And lastly Cinderace is the Rabbit

Here are the INCORRECT starter Pokemon on the Chinese Zodiac.
Although many say that Typhlosion is the Rat on the zodiac, Typhlosion isn't a rat but instead a Badger. Badgers ARENT rodents.
Many say that Delphox is the dog on the Zodiac BUT Delphox is a fox which is a Vulpine. Vulpine technically aren't dogs but rather a subspecies of them that includes Foxes and raccoons. Saying they ARE dogs is the equivalent of saying a monkey is a human.
Lastly, The new Scarlet/Violet starter: Fuecoco. Fuecoco is a Crocodile Pokemon. Many assume it'll become a snake in its final evolution but according to leaks about the new games, Fuecoco WILL remain a Crocodile and therefore it isn't on the zodiac.

So honestly, I'd say this theory is debunked. What about you?

9. What Pokemon became Suicune, Entei & Raikou

If you guys know your Johto/Gold & Silver Lore, you know how our Johto legendary dog trio came to be, if not, I'll remind you. On one stormy night in Johto, in Ecruteak City, the ancient bell tower Lugia had called home was struck by lightning and caught aflame. Lugia fled the tower in look of a new home, but three Pokemon never escaped the tower and burned alive, dying within. After the storm had put out the fire, Ho-Oh had visited the scene and revived the three Pokemon who had died within the tower and those three Pokemon had been reincarnated as Entei, Suicune & Raikou and appointed as Johto's protectors.

But who were the three Pokemon who died in the tower and later reincarnated as Suicune, Entei & Raikou?
The Pokemon games and anime never answered this question. The only piece of evidence we have is that in the anime, the silhouette of the dying Pokemon just so happen to look like dogs. Therefore, the fanbase took it upon themselves to come up with two different answers. Suicune, Raikou and Entei were formerly Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon. All three of them being pure Water, Electric & Fire types just like Suicune, Raikou & Entie. The eeveelutions also being a logical assumption because of how prominent the eeveelutios are in the Johto Region, especially to the Kimono girls who all own Eeveelutions. The Kimono Girls can summon Ho-Oh & Lugia and hold a show all about the tragedy at the Bell Tower. The only way this theory falls through is because the silhouettes supplied by the anime dont look like the eeveelutions but more dog like, like a Houndour.

The second answer/theory the fanbase has came up with to go alongside the legend of Suicune, Entei & Raikou is that the Pokemon who died at the bell tower were 100% unique Pokemon we haven't yet seen in the anime. More specifically, the three Pokemon who died at the tower have to be the beta designs for Suicune, Raikou & Entei of which are 100% dogs and match the silhouette of the deceased Pokemon supplied by the anime. Many speculate that IF Johto receives a Legends Arceus treatment, it WILL show us what the original Pokemon who died in the tower really look like.

What do you think? Do you think Suicune, Raikou & Entei were originally Eeveelutions OR their own unique never before seen Pokemon?

10. Grimsley is Dying

Grimsley is the dark type specialist who is a member of Unova's Elite 4. Otherwise, this man doesn't play a role in the games. Except, years later Grimsley was brought back into the games as a character in Pokemon Sun & Moon and he looks VERY different. The man is very pale, his mannerisms have changed dramatically and hjs hair is becoming grey. He's also stepped down and is no longer an Elite 4 Member in Unova by choice. It's only been a two year difference between the events of Black & White and Sun & Moon, so there's no reason Grimsley should look so different. Unless...

A theory that many seem to agree with is that after the events Black & White, Grimsley fell incredibly ill and now travels the world in search of a cure which actually lines up pretty well especially with how sickly he does indeed look within Sun & Moon. Grimsley now also wears a Kimono and they're never worn in Japan as they're normally associated with sickness and death/only worn to burials. Also, Grimsley's entire character and design were inspired by gambling and vampires and guess what? Vampires are dead creatures.

So is Grimsley sick and/or dying? All of the evidence is there that's for sure.

So there you go, 10 interesting Pokemon Theories. Which ones do you think are true? Any you disagree with? Any Theories of your own you'd like for me to make an update on?
