Pokemon that don't FEEL like Pokemon
What I mean by 'Pokemon that don't feel like Pokemon' is that I'm talking about Pokemon that by design standards, don't FEEL like something that I'd find in the Pokemon franchise/don't look like a traditional Pokemon. You'll understand what I mean, if you don't already, once you start reading.
1. Necrozma
This thing had NEVER looked let alone felt like a Pokémon to me. It's a geometric monstrosity!!! It doesn't look like something I'd find in the world of Pokemon that's for sure. Doesn't help that Necrozma, most of the time, ISNT a stand alone Pokemon & is always fused with another Pokemon. Heck, Necrozma looks like a Nobody from Kingdom Hearts more than it does an actual Pokemon.
2. Blacephalon
Honestly, when I first saw Blacephalon I was flabbergasted when I realized it was an actual Pokemon. It's so humanoid, uncanny and apparently it can juggle its head. The head glows up too by the way. Blacephalon was introduced as the Pokemon Equivalent of an alien/it came from another dimension, nicknamed an Ultra Beast, so its SUPPOSED to feel as if it don't belong in the Pokemon universe. Nowhere in the Pokemon universe do they ever refer to Ultra Beasts as Pokemon either. Just Ultra Beasts.
3. Xurkitree
Another Ultra Beast... Ultra Beasts are meant to NOT belong in the Pokemon Universe as they're Pokemon that came from another dimension. They're meant to be weird, alienlike, & Arguably uncanny. Xurkitree's name is a pun on the word Electrical Circuitry and guess what? Xurkitree is quite literally a bundle of cords. No fucking way does anyone consider this thing a Pokemon.
4. Grimmsnarl
Maybe it's just me, but Grimmsnarl in particular is most likely the most Pokemon looking creature on this list but it's NEVER felt like a Pokémon to me. It's straight up a goblin. That's it. The design feels weird and has a few too many humanoid characteristics. In fact, I think this thing is more human than Pokemon.
5. Kuraidon & Miraidon
Yes, our newest legendary Pokemon duo. They look AWESOME but they also don't feel like Pokemon. What fuels this thought process for me is that Scarlet & Violet has adopted a new 'artstyle' of sorts so it differs greatly from traditional Pokemon. Also, Kuraidon in particular looks like a traditional Dinosaur. More specifically, it looks like the dinosaurs you'd find in the Fossil Fighters game series.
6. Elgyem & Beeheyem
Unlike Ultra Beasts, these ARE Pokemon but were designed to be very reminiscent of aliens. Even their Pokedex Entrees pretty much calling them aliens. They're weirdly designed, I have yet to find a single person that likes them either. Due to how they're aliens, they don't feel like Pokemon to me.
7. Kleavor
Kleavor is an awesome Pokemon, my favorite addition to the Pokemon universe from Legends Arceus. However, something about it has always had me feeling like it don't belong either. It's partially because it's so REALISTIC looking in Legends Arceus. Like how the light shines on its arms and theres such a realistic rock like texture. Also, when it was revealed that Scyther was getting another evolution, it felt more like fanservice than anything else. Doesnt help that Kleavor is canonically extinct in the Pokemon Universe so it feels like a one off thing as well as that its SUPPOSED to look different. So while I do especially love Kleavor, there's too many factors that make Kleavor not fit into the Pokemon universe.
8. Naganadel
Alright, this is the final Ultra Beast on our list. Alot of people love Naganadel, especially its pre-evolution Poipole. Me included! But you cannot deny that it's design is a bit too busy and that it does indeed look like an alien from outer space from its glowing eyes to how it heavily reminds me of a xenomorph. The only thing helping Naganadel here is that it's the only Ultra Beast that could previously evolve.
9. Eternatus
Nothing about this thing says it's a Pokemon!!! It's a Naganadel but somehow even more inorganic and skeletal. It looks more like a spaceship of sorts than an actual living being.
10. Greedent & Skwovet
I'm sorry, these two are two of the worst designed pokemon in existence. It not only doesn't fit the Pokemon style, it looks like it fits just about any other cartoon better than Pokemon. In my eyes at least, it reminds me of the rubber hose/EARLY cartoon style.
What is the most 'un-Pokemon' Pokemon in your opinion?
