The Strongest ‘Playable’ Pokemon Protagonists

I’m going to take a few updates to talk about some of the strongest Pokemon Protagonists we’ve gotten over the years. I’m including the mainstream games as well as the spin off Pokemon games. I do have a few rules considering the protagonists however…

Lets start listing off my rules for how I decided who are the strongest protagonists!

I will loosely take accomplishments & events from the anime. I will primarily only do so when considering how powerful some of the Protagonist’s rivals are since the protagonists themselves aren't featured in the anime & were replaced by Ash Ketchum

Although I will take into consideration the legendary Pokemon the Protagonist has captured, I’m going to try my best to ignore said legendary Pokemon. Cause anyone could argue that the God of Time is stronger than the God of Land/Ocean.

Any DLC or Post Game content will be considered!

I'm going to ignore ‘optional’ quests/missions to the best of my ability however they won’t be completely disregarded! It's situational actually… Such as in Diamond & Pearl, you're required to capture Dialga/Palkia but Giratina is optional to capture.

I WON'T be getting into why each protagonist is strong right now. Each Protagonist will get their own separate update BUT I’ll give a brief description as to who everyone is right now and an achievement or two about them as well.

In no particular order…

Wes, the Protagonist of Pokemon Colosseum

Wes has his own manga series & is the Protagonist of the Gamecube title: Pokemon Colosseum. Wes is a former criminal who took down the evil organization he was a part of (By literally blowing it up) before turning around to take down yet another evil organization called Cipher of whom steal & forcibly turn Pokemon into aggressive killing machines. Wes not only has 3+ Legendaries at his command but he’s earned the respect of Celebi AND Ho-Oh as well.

Rei/Akari, the Protagonists of Pokemon Legends Arceus

Pulled from the future & into the past by the God of Pokemon, Arceus, Rei/Akari conquer the Hisui/Sinnoh region as 'Noble' Pokemon, Pokemon blessed by Arceus, start ripping apart the Hisui Region. Rei & Akari collectively pull together Sinnoh’s Pokedex & Capture every single Pokemon Species in Sinnoh. Upon completion of the Pokedex, Arceus challenges the protagonist in a fight. Upon losing the fight to the protagonist, Arceus willingly became their Pokemon.

Gloria/Victor, the Protagonists of Pokemon Sword & Shield

Our Protagonists Gloria & Victor are best friends with a boy named Hop of whom is the little brother of the Galar Region's Champion, Leon. Leon gave our Protagonists their first Pokemon encouraging them to conquer the gym challenge where they'll earn the right to fight Leon in battle. Eventually they complete the gym challenge, succeed in the League Cup & went on to defeat Galar’s Champion, the strongest trainer in the entire world. Our Protagonists were also chosen by MANY legendary Pokemon, especially by Zacian & Zamazenta, Galar’s guardians, to become Galar’s new protectors.

Michael, the protagonist of Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

Gale of Darkness is the sequel to Pokemon Colosseum. Cipher, the organization responsible for turning Pokemon into killing machines, rebuilt their organization & strikes fear into the Orre region as they’ve begun turning Pokemon evil once more even stepping up their game by capturing & altering four legendary pokemon. Michael stolen all of the engineered Pokemon, including the 4 Legendary Pokemon, turned them back to normal, & took down Cipher once & for all. Michael's also defeated a Groudon replica and later went on to defeat the regional champion AND Wes of Pokemon Colosseum.

Hilda/Hilbert, the Protagonists of Pokemon Black/White

What was a teenager starting their first adventure realizes that Unovan history is doomed to repeat itself and they are part of it! What is the tale of 2 brothers, Both come to a disagreement as the siblings both command a legendary Pokemon of Black & White, thrusting the Unova region into warfare. The protagonist has to revive one of the deceased legendary dragons in order to prevent said history from repeating itself. N, the protagonist's rival, defeated the regional champion before being defeated by the protagonist & saving the Unova region. The protagonist also has defeated Sinnoh’s champion, Cynthia, who is regarded to be one of the strongest trainers in the world.

I was going to consider Red but… He has accomplished A LOT outside of the game he was introduced in. Such as going around the world & conquering all of the region’s champions & gym challenges. Red hasn’t been a playable character since the OG Pokemon Red & Blue games. Therefore, the player didn’t do anything, contribute or experience Red’s accomplishments first hand.
