Pokemon's HARDEST Battles
Today I want to talk about the top 10 hardest battles in ALL Pokemon games. Now, this is all my opinion. Everyone's experience with Pokemon games are different for the reason nobody chooses the same Pokemon, some take the time to grind for levels, some utilize items others breed for maximum stats. MANY MANY THINGS!!! So today I'm going to talk about the hardest battles IVE fought over the years.
Just as a heads up, I'll only be talking Pokemon Games where you need to build/put together your own team of 6 Pokemon. Therefore, I won't be considering fights from Pokken Tournament or the Mystery Dungeon series. I'm also not considering any of the Nobels in Pokemon Legends Arceus as you can technically defeat the Nobels without even engaging in fight.
I'll also consider an entire trainer as well especially if a trainer can be fought or IS fought multiple times in their respected game.
In No particular order...
1. Raihan, All Battles: Pokemon Sword & Shield
Every single time I fight Raihan I want to bash my head against something! Raihan is one of the strongest trainers in the world, according to the anime, and is the final gym leader in Sword & Shield of whom specializes in the Dragon Typing. Raihan utilizes weather conditions within his battles, prefers double battling AND he uses Pokemon that aren't even Dragon typed. Therefore, you can't go into this battle thinking that only using ice type pokemon will guarantee success cause its quite the opposite. You have to cover all bases on your team as Raihan has his bases covered. His utilization of weather is quite troublesome as Raihan loves to use Sandstorm AND his entire team is immune to sandstorm. He also uses Rain Dance to make his Goodra stronger, therefore weakening fire types. He also uses Sunny Day to make his Torkoal & Turtonator stronger, therefore weakening water types. Raihan is a worthy opponent BUT I find him to be the easiest fight on this list.
2. Mustard/The Trial of Water: Pokemon Sword & Shield
I'm considering the entire Trail of Water in this entry. In the Sword & Shield Isle of Armor DLC, you are faced with three trials. In these trials you're competing against a bunch of Dojo students of whom are trained by Galar's former Champion, Mustard. Once those trials are completed, Mustard gifts you a Kubfu, a Legendary Pokemon of whom evolves depending on the fighting style it learns. Mustard tasks the player with training their new family member until they feel the Kubfu is ready to face a series of trials that'll grant Kubfu the right to evolve if completed. There's two different trials Kubfu can face: The Trial of Water and the Trial of Darkness. I've done both the Water & Dark trials and by far the Water Trial is miles harder than the Dark. Also, the difficulty of the trials are increased IF you face the trials AFTER you become Champion. During the trials, you have to face 5 opponents with only your Kubfu. After those 5 Opponents you then have to face Mustard of whom has a Kubfu of his own trained in the style you didn't choose. This trial is crazy difficult. I had to get a Level 5 Kubfu trained to level 70 in order to even attempt the trial in the first place on top of Mustard's Kubfu ALWAYS being stronger than you. I had to defeat a crap ton of Max Raid Dens in order to get powerful TMs to teach Kubfu to make it stronger. I also lost count of how many times I had to restart the Water Trial due to how difficult it was.
3. Venus: Pokemon Colosseum
Venus in Pokemon Colosseum is the Queen of sorts in an underground town of criminals & thugs ON TOP OF being an Admin for the Evil Organization featured in this game. She's the 3rd boss you face in this game and I hate her so god damned much... You may fight Venus a bare minimum of three times within this game and each fight is a nightmare. Venus utilizes numerous strategies, such as HP drain, one strategy of hers that makes her such a nightmare of an opponent being she loves to use the move Attract on your entire team. Attract makes it so you rarely squeeze attacks in on any turn. It's hard to combat this as her team consists of males and females. Venus also has some VERY heavy hitters on her team too including Blissey of whom has ridiculously high defense and HP. Steelix of whom also has high defense on top of high attack and also a Suicune. Yeah, this bitch has a legendary on her team. If you guys read the update on this book talking about how over powered Shadow Pokemon are, you'll realize just how nightmarish Suicune was considering it was a Shadow. Honestly, I view Venus to be the most difficult trainer in Colosseum as a whole.
4. Volo, Final Fight: Pokemon Legends Arceus
Volo, although introduced as an ally, is later revealed to be the mastermind behind the frenzied nobles and attempted collapse of the entire world in Legends Arceus. Volo not only has Giratina at his command, his Giratina has to be fought TWICE on top of Volo having an insanely powerful team of Pokemon including Garchomp, Togekiss, Roserade, Hisuian Arcanine, Lucario & Spiritomb. There's no chance to heal up your Pokemon either! I lost so heavily the first few attempts at this fight that I withdrew, completely rearranged my entire team in order to target Volo's weaknesses, raised all of my team's stats to the highest possible level AND level grinded my entire team till everyone was Level 100. Even then, I STILL struggled against this man with a God complex!!! I hope Pokemon never gives us Boss Battles where they have 8 Pokemon ever again!!!
5. Master Greevil: Pokemon XD Gale Of Darkness
Master Greevil IS the hardest trainer in this game. He's the freaking mastermind with FOUR legendaries on his team. If you read the part earlier in this book detailing what Shadow Pokemon are, or if you didn't I'll quickly explain. Shadow Pokemon are Pokemon of whom were forcibly experimented on in order to make them into war machines. They have no weaknesses AND are super effective against all Pokemon no matter their typing. Well, not only does Greevil have SEVEN Pokemon on his team, like I said earlier four of them are legendaries AND all of his Pokemon are Shadow Pokemon. Yeah, not only are you fighting someone with an extra Pokemon on his team, all of the Pokemon he uses have no weaknesses and are super effective against you. His team includes Lugia, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Rhydon, Tauros & Exeggutor. Yeah, after I crash and burned heavily my first attempt to defeat Greevil, I withdrew and level grinded my entire team until they were nearly level 100 and STILL struggled badly against him.
6. Ultra Necrozma: Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon
Necrozma is the third legendary that accompanies Solgaleo & Lunala in Ultra Sun & Moon. After Necrozma fuses itself with Solgaleo & Lunala, it travels through space and time before taking up it's ultimate form, Ultra Necrozma, of which holds the ability to destroy the universe. Unlike most Legendary Pokemon of which you don't have to defeat them in battle and can literally just toss a master ball at them, with Necrozma you HAVE TO defeat it in battle. I lost count of how many times I've lost to Necrozma AND this battle takes a long time to complete. I was battling it so long Necrozma had depleted the PP of all its moves. Let's not forget how Ultra Necrozma is an amalgamation of three legendary Pokemon at once! Necrozma kept one hit KO-ing my entire team and unless you have Dark type Pokemon on your team, you stand no chance against it. Yeah, my Alolan Muk carried this entire boss battle on top of dumping easily 10+ revives into my team to keep it afloat.
7. Red: Pokemon Heartgold & Soulsilver
Red is the OG Protagonist of Pokemon Red & Blue who is later a fightable trainer across multiple Pokemon games. Personally, I've never had a problem with Red BUT I know that veteran Pokemon fans & players talk about how God like Red's difficulty was in Heartgold & Soulsilver. First and Foremost, just to even face Red is a tall order in and of itself. You have to defeat all of Kanto AND Johto's Gym Leaders AS WELL AS their shared Elite 4 AND THEN navigate Mt. Silver where Red awaits there atop the peak of the mountain waiting for a worthy opponent. Red is the equivalent of Ash in the anime as Red's team consists of VERY highly leveled Pokemon such as Pikachu, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Snorlax & Lapras. Although Red has no strategies up his sleeve, just keep in mind that his team has variety, he's highly leveled and that Red WILL be the hardest trainer you face in this pair of games.
8. Professor Kukui: Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon
In Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon, because the Player is the first person to ever defeat the Alola Elite Four there is no champion to face as the player IS the first Alolan Champion. In Sun & Moon, after the player becomes champion, Hau challenges the player. In Ultra Sun & Moon, Professor Kukui challenges the Player after they're crowned Champion. And let me tell you, I lost this fight against Kukui quite a few times. Kukui is secretly a famous Pro Trainer in Alola nicknamed the Masked Royal and yeah, he's deserving of the title. In the Sun & Moon anime, Kukui made it into the finals of the Alola League and JUST barely lost to Ash. Kukui's no pushover!!! Not only does Kukui have quite a variety of Pokemon on his team, his AI is so advanced it will switch out his Pokemon and send out another Pokemon effective against you, he uses Z Moves as well! It's been a while since we've had such an advanced AI on an NPC Trainer.
9. Ingo, at his strongest: Pokemon Legends Arceus
This fight literally made me cry... In the Post game of Pokemon Legends Arceus, you can approach Ingo & he'll ask you if there's anyone in the Hisui Region that you'd like to battle/have a rematch against. Within this list of trainers he offers you to duel against, Ingo offers that he'd happily fight against the player. Each time you defeat Ingo, a new option opens up where you can fight him again BUT with an even stronger team. The last team that Ingo will put together is a 3 on 1 battle against you. Technically you have 6 Pokemon BUT can only use one at a time meanwhile Ingo uses all three of his Pokemon at once. All three of Ingo's Pokemon include Wyrdeer, Kleavor & Basculegion all of which are at an insanely high level AND Alphas! When I fought this fight with Ingo, all of my Pokemon were lv 100 and he obliterated me. All of his Pokemon got in 10 turns/attacks before I could squeeze in one singular attack or action. As mentioned earlier, I cried due to how annoyingly difficult this fight was as it was intentionally unfair from the start. You don't even earn anything from this fight either! It's just an optional fight for fun. Luckily I managed to succeed in this fight due to sheer luck, but you cannot pay me to attempt this again.
10. Mysterial: Pokemon Battle Revolution
Mysterial is the only trainer on this list I have never defeated. Or, at least I never could defeat him a second time. Mysterial is crowned as the Poketopia Master, or the strongest trainer in Poketopia to put it simply and this man isn't one to mess with. Not only does he have insane difficulty, he has dangerous strategies & Legendary Pokemon on his team. Upon doing further research on him to write this entry, I realize more than ever that he's a million times stronger than I was aware. The fight of his that managed to defeat me more than 10 times over, is a double battle. Mysterial used the strategy of using an attack that attacks all of the Pokemon on the field, including Surf & Earthquake, BUT he casts protect on his own team to prevent damage. Furthermore, his team includes Palkia, Charizard, Uxie, Garchomp, Lucario & Snorlax. TWO freaking Legendaries!!! If you defeat that team, and youre crazy enough to fight Mysterial a third time he has an entire team of Legendaries including Cresselia, Kyogre, Groudon, Latios, Mewtwo & Lugia. In all honesty, it probably takes Master level strategizing and an Elite team to defeat Mysterial because I cannot remember how many hours I've dedicated into trying to defeat Mysterial and never could.
What are some of the hardest battles you've fought in any Pokemon game?
