Pokemon I WONT Use
Today's update is going over Pokemon I've personally used in the Pokemon games in the past where I've learned from experience that they're horrible Pokemon in battle and you won't be catching me using them again anytime soon...
So here are 10 Pokemon I won't use ever again
1. Sharpedo
Sharpedo, while a great physical attacker on its own, and great speed to boot, suffers tremendously in the defense department. Sharpedo has one of the worst defense stats in existence, ranking as low as first & middle stage evolution Pokemon. From my experience with Sharpedo, if it was hit once, and not by a super effective move either, it dies. It's defense is so horrible, it can't even withstand one attack. Therefore, Sharpedo is the definition of a glass cannon. It's got great attack, but so fragile one attack can doom it.
2. Tinkaton
In my playthough of Scarlet/My second playthrough of the Scarlet/Violet games, I wanted to try new Pokemon that I didn't use in my first playthrough and Tinkaton was at the top of my list. Yeah, I can see why so many people say this Pokemon sucks now. Tinkaton has HORRIBLE attack stats and is only useful if you teach it attack increasing Moves such as Swords Dance. What put the nail in the coffin for me on Tinkaton was when I was battling Nemona's Skeledirge that was 6 levels under my Tinkaton. I had Tinkaton use a super effective move against it, and not even a fifth of Skeledirge's health bar was depleted from said attack. I'm one of those people who don't prefer to use Stat increasing Moves, therefore, I don't have the time and dedication to keep Tinkaton on my team.
3. Umbreon
Going back to my Eeveelutions worst to best update, Umbreon was ranked #7 out of the 8 Eeveelutions because it performs horribly in battle. From only being able to learn Dark type moves to having non-existent attack stats, there's virtually no reason to have an Umbreon on your team unless you're utilizing the stat moves it knew as an Eevee such as Baby-Doll Eyes or Helping Hand. Umbreon is a TANK when it comes to defense which is the only upside to Umbreon. Umbreon was made to strictly be able to tank attacks and aid in stat increasing/decreasing moves. I haven't dedicated an entire Pokemon on my team to be strictly a supporting member yet and don't plan to. In every single playthrough of Pokemon Colosseum, I ditch Umbreon the first chance I get.
4. Wobbuffet
Wobbuffet's entire gimmick is that It actively cannot attack enemies and WONT learn any damaging attacks. So what's the point? Wobbuffet can't learn attacks INSTEAD it can withstand attacks and throw them back at the attacker. Therefore, Wobbuffet can really only learn Counter, Mirror Coat, Substitute & Protect. Once again, I am one of those people who don't play support and don't have the patience to utilize Wobbuffet's punching bag/damage reflecting mechanic. I don't like the idea of having my Pokemon take damage in order to make damage. In the rare instance I'll let one of my Pokemon learn Counter, but once again that's a rare instance.
5. Ampharos
This entry is a little weird, I have used Ampharos MANY times over the years and genuinely enjoy using him, but that's IF you're willing to work with it. I didn't notice until Scarlet & Violet that Ampharos isn't a physical attacker YET most of the moves it learns are physical attacks with a few special attacks mixed in. Ampharos can also learn Electroball in which it's only useful if the user is faster than the opponent (in which Ampharos isn't the fastest Pokemon out there...) IF you teach Ampharos through training or TMs the right special attack moves like Thunder, Discharge or Zap Cannon, Ampharos is a great Pokemon to have on your team. If you don't wanna teach Ampharos TMs or have the patience to unlock its entire moveset on the otherhand, then it's not a good pick for you.
6. Flareon
Almost the same exact issues as Ampharos, Flareon's moveset doesn't complement what it's stats are tailored for. Flareon is a physical attacker YET 90% of the moves it can learn are Special. In reality, very very few Fire type moves are physical attack period such as Blaze Kick, Fire Fang or Flame Wheel. Unlike Ampharos where Ampharos can eventually learn Special Attack moves, Flareon cannot. Flareon's stats don't complement what it's movepool entails and therefore it's just a useless Pokemon out on the field if it can't deal much damage. I got so irritated with my Flareon that I restarted one of my games as a whole BECAUSE Eevee was the starter Pokemon and I wanted to instead use a different Eeveelution and glad I had done so. You will NOT see me use Flareon ever again and I will forever hold a grudge against it.
7. Bibarel
You guys remember the term 'HM Slave'? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about with Bibarel here. The only reason EVERYONE had a Bibarel on their team back in the OG Diamond, Pearl & Platinum days was due to how Bibarel could literally learn all of the HMs necessary to traverse the game. Nowadays, HMs thankfully aren't a thing anymore and in the Diamond & Pearl Remakes, they ALSO elimatined HMs so now there's absolutely no reason to have Bibarel on your team anymore. The Bibarel was wasted space on everyone's team as it wasn't even an alright battler. I am guilty of everything within this entry about Bibarel the HM slave. Let me tell you, I won't ever have Bibarel on my team ever again.
8. Charcadet
This is a tricky entry, I LOVE Charcadet's evolutions Armarouge & Ceruledge but Charcadet on its own is a liability. In both of my Scarlet & Violet Playthroughs I KNEW I was gonna have both Armarouge & Ceruledge on my team and that's the only reason Charcadet remained on my team for most of the game. However, Charcadet SUCKS in battle. It's attack stats suck, it's HP is scary low and it can't tank any attacks. Basically saying, Charcadet is wasted space on your team until it evolves because you can't have it battle. Until you have access to Charcadet's evolution/the items necessary to evolve it, just keep your Charcadet in the box and train someone else in the meantime.
9. Magikarp
SAME is said about Magikarp! Magikarp is 100% useless space on your team until it evolves. It doesn't learn any attacks, period. Yes, having a Magikarp on your team is an insane payoff once it evolves at lv 20 as Gyarados is one of the best water types in the Pokemon series to date. However, if I were you, I'd just catch a Gyarados in the wild or wait until slightly later in any given playthrough to catch a Magikarp as Magikarp would assumingly be close to Lv 20 or above. Therefore, you won't have wasted space on your team from training up your lv 5 Magikarp and can train up another USEFUL Pokemon in the meantime.
10. Literally Any Pokemon That Evolves Upon Being Traded
Pokemon used to, and still has, ALOT of Pokemon that requires you to trade them away in order to evolve. Thankfully in Scarlet & Violet, they didnt introduce any new trade evolution Pokemon. If you're like me where you don't have any gaming friends, then you don't even have access to any trade evolution Pokemon unless you wanna test your chances within surprise and link trades. Sadly, using the middle stage Pokemon that CANT evolve due to the trade requirement is most of the time a waste of space as they just can't cut it in battle compared to their final evolutions. Yes, I'm talking about Graveler, Haunter, Scyther, Boldore, Gurrdurr, Phantump, Shelmet, Karrablast, Kadabra, Slowpoke, Rhyhorn, Machoke AND THE LIST GOES ON!!! There's a rare instance that the pre-evolution Pokemon is alright on its own such as Kadabra or Rhyhorn, but they still aren't anywhere near as good as their evolutions that you can't access unless you trade them away and HOPE someone gives them back.
Is there a Pokemon you won't use or can't stand?
