New Scarlet Violet DLC Trailer Dissection

During the 6/21 Nintendo Direct, they showcased a trailer for the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Teal Mask and Indigo Disc DLCs. It was a three minute long video with much to uncover. I'm gonna go over the things I've noticed from the trailer and theories that I have about it.

1. The large amount of Unovan Pokemon present

I know I wasn't the only one to notice in the trailers that there was ALOT of Unovan Pokemon showcased across both of the DLCs, particularly the Indigo Disc DLC. From what I noticed, and this was what I noticed after one viewing of the trailer, I saw Blitzle, Zebstrika, Cottonee, Whimsicott, Golett, Golurk & Reuniclus. It was also announced separately that the Litwick line: Litwick, Lampent & Chandelure as well as Heatmor will be making a return in the DLCs. This is ALOT of Unovan Pokemon to showoff but Legends Arceus did the same thing: It featured ALOT of Unovan Pokemon as well as Black & White Ancestors. Sword & Shield ALSO had a good chunk of Unovan representation. Either its a coincidence that Pokemon has been representing Unova/The Black & White games alot for the last two Generations or this is Pokemon's way of saying we have a Black & White remake in the works OR a Legends game based on Unova.

2. We WONT get anymore new Pokemon Typings

This was a hot topic when the DLCs for Scarlet & Violet were first announced as we got our first look at Terapagos, a Legendary that'll be the focus of the Second DLC: The Indigo Disc. Terapagos' shell sports scales that represent all of the Pokemon typings we know to date with NO room to spare. This suggests that Pokemon either A: Doesn't plan to introduce new Pokemon typings in the future or B: There WONT be anymore future Typings that Pokemon could introduce. The fanbase, for a long time now, have been dying for the Light and/or Sound typing to be introduced, but after seeing Terapagos & just how important Terapagos to the Anime currently, It seems like Pokemon WONT be adding anymore typings as it'd royally mess up the canon/lore unless they want to retcon Terapagos later on.

3. Blueberry Academy

Why is Blueberry Academy named this way when the other academies: Uva(Grape) & Naranja(Orange), are named in Spanish? Blueberry is the name used primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, Vietnam & Australia. This tells me there's fruit related academies all over the globe that are probably named in the language of the country they reside within and the Blueberry Academy that's going to be featured in the Indigo Disk DLC IS NOT located in Paldea but rather, most likely, in or around Unova & Alola considering the sheer amount of Unovan & Alolan Pokemon present in the Indigo Disc portion of the trailer. Unova and Alola are both based on the United States and it wouldnt be too far of a stretch to say Blueberry Academy is located on an ocean Vessel that's placed in the ocean that connects the United States to Europe: The Atlantic Ocean.
What do you think of this theory?

4. The Teal Mask DLC Doesn't take place in Paldea

You probably noticed a theme here, there's no Paldean representation across the DLCs as each DLC leaned heavily towards particular regions FAR away from Paldea/Spain. Welp, from the sheer amount of Johto Pokemon presented in the Teal Mask DLC as well as how the entire DLC is very Asian/Japanese Culture forward, its safe to assume the Teal Mask DLC takes place in one of the four regions that are neighbors with one another. The Kanto, Johto, Hoenn & Sinnoh regions are all based on the country of Japan and are canonically all neighbors with one other. There also wasn't a single Paldean Pokemon present in the entire trailer. (Excluding the Indigo Disc portion of the trailer). I'm leaning particularly heavy into the Teal Mask taking place in Johto as Johto is the most rich in traditional Japanese culture & architecture as well as one thing that stood out Painfully hard in the trailer: The groups of Johto Wooper. As we all know, Wooper got a regional form in Paldea and it was mentioned repeatedly throughout the game that Johto Form Woopers DONT exist in Paldea unless they were imported in much like Kantonian Exeggutor to Kanto. This tells me that the Teal Mask CANT be in Paldea but rather it HAS to be located in Johto OR its neighbors Hoenn & Sinnoh. I 100% don't think it's in Kanto.
Do you think the Teal Mask takes place in Johto?

5. The Faceless Legendary

On a sign that was shown during the Teal Mask portion of the DLC, the NEW legendaries: Okidogi, Monkidori & Fezandpidi, are pictured chasing off a Pokemon we haven't been introduced to yet. Kieran & Carmen, new Characters as of the DLC, claim the festival the player attends is to celebrate how the guardians: Okidogi, Munkidori & Fezandpidi got together to chase off a bad Ogre as pictured on the sign. Something tells me this faceless Legendary we haven't yet been introduced to is either A: Ogerpon's true form (if it has one) given it has Ogre in its name and the 3 legendaries of the festival protect the town from an Ogre or it'll be a brand new Legendary! Much like how in the Crown Tundra DLC, the trailers introduced Calyrex BUT it's steed's Glastrier & Spectrier were Secretly introduced after the DLCs launched. I DONT think this Pokemon on the sign is Ogerpon as Ogerpon is represented as a small God or Spirit to a shrine at the festival the DLC takes place in. The only thing that's keeping me from ruling out Ogerpon entirely is that Ogerpon IS the Teal Mask and it has 'Oger' in its name as mentioned above, so it might work the same way as Kyurem & Necrozma where those two legendaries could fuse with other Pokemon. So really, who IS the Pokemon on the sign?
Who do you think is the Pokemon thats being scared away on the sign? Do you think it's a Fused Ogerpon or an entirely different Pokemon?

6. The Terrarium

Introduced in the Indigo Disc DLC, Blueberry Academy is home to 'the Terrarium' which is a giant 'greenhouse' like facility that hosts 4 different ecosystems at once that can successfully house Pokemon from all over the world. Alolan Exeggutor in particular which is impressive given Alolan Exeggutor canonically can only thrive in Alola thanks to its tropical climate. The Terrarium leaves me to wonder just how large of a map the Indigo Disc DLC is gonna be if it's expansive enough to host four different ecosystems. Furthermore, and it's just a theory, I believe the Terrarium WILL be home to regional variants from all over the globe. Yes, I think it's possible for Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian/Sinnoh & Paldean regional variants to be found all in one place. Pokemon has already confirmed that Hisuian Regional Variants WILL be featured in the DLC and thanks to Pokemon Home, you can already transfer Pokemon Legends Arceus Pokemon to your file of Scarlet & Violet. I think the Terrarium will be INTERESTING to explore and can't wait to see what other Pokemon they haven't announced as coming back. I personally want Fossil Pokemon back but that's just me.

7. No Arven, Penny or Nemona?

There wasn't a single familiar character featured in either portion of the trailers which surprises me to be honest. Back in the Sword & Shield days, Hop was VERY present during the Isle of Armor DLC while in the Crown Tundra DLC, what we thought was Chairman Rose turned out to be his older brother: Peony. I'm actually quite surprised to find that not a single familiar character even be briefly featured in the trailers. I thought that Nemona's send off in the Post Game of Scarlet & Violet felt very 'loose' or incomplete. As if we KNOW Pokemon intends to do more with her. But what? Was the Post Game of Scarlet & Violet the last we've seen of Arven, Penny & Nemona?

8. More Gymleaders?

In the Indigo Disc portion of the trailer, in fact, near the end of the trailer in general, the trailer shows off four different students who sport clothing styles that represent different Pokemon types. We Lacey, a girl with pink hair & a futuristic hair decoration that leaves me to believe she's a Psychic or Fairy trainer. It was already confirmed shes one of the strongest trainers at Blueberry Academy. We have a Girl sporting tear drop beads on her uniform leading me to believe she's a Water trainer. Next we were shown a boy with fiery red hair and a frying pan, he MUST be a fire trainer. Lastly, we were shown a trainer sporting a leather jacket with Maschiff embroidered on the back. Considering Maschiff is a Dark type and bikers are associated with being 'bad', I think he's a Dark type trainer. I think that there might be gymleaders or 'type specialists' at Blueberry Academy that the player will be required to challenge as part of the plot whether it's for Academy purposes or winning against them unlocks new zones in the Terrarium, New items, New perks or something along those lines. One thing for sure is that the four trainers mentioned above will play a part in some way during the Indigo Disc DLC.

9. Kieran & Carmen

Kieran & Carmen are siblings that were introduced very early on in the trailer and will play vital roles during the Teal Mask DLC. Or at least that's what we think. Pokemon hasn't uploaded a character profile of them to the official site just yet. Kieran is the younger brother to Carmen and we don't know anything about him aside from the fact he has a sister and he owns a Poochyena. Carmen is Kieran's much older sister who exhibits a great passion for Battling. I personally don't know how these two will play a role in the DLC but I think it'll be along the lines of what Pokemon did with Avery & Klara in the Isle of Armor DLC. Each sibling will most likely specialize in a particular typing, they initially challenge the player I'm battle and they they become friends. These two are most likely just gonna be companions towards the player and give needed lore when necessary throughout the Teal Mask DLC.

10. This Mountain

I don't know what they're going to do with the mountain featured in the opening shot of the Trailers and it DOESNT fit into the Teal Mask DLC at all from what I've noticed. I genuinely want to know where this mountain is, who made it OR if the mountain is actually the skeltal remains of a gargantuan Pokemon because Pokemon fossils have been a thing for 25+ years. I wonder what this mountain holds as well. Does it house a lab? A Legendary? Rare Pokemon? It's too soon to tell and this mountain wasn't addressed at all so only time will tell?

What's the most interesting thing you noticed on the trailer? Anything you're the most excited for?
