Main Series Games Worst To Beat Part 1

Every MAIN Series Game Worst to Best

There's ALOT of main series Pokemon games out there including sequels & a multitude of remakes. Since quite a few of you keep asking me which games I absolutely hate and or like, here's a collective list!

I must warn however as I will not be featuring Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee. It's the only Pokemon game, besides those released before the Gamecube, that I've never bothered to play let alone own. Same goes for Gold, Silver & Crystal. I've never bothered to own one of those three titles either/they were never passed down to me. Plus, they're ridiculously priced nowadays so I have no intention to play them either.

I am also not ranking individual games and instead ranking each PAIR of games together. As in, I'll rank Black & White together instead of separately despite how I may or may not prefer one over the other... BUT if a generation received a third title that released AFTER the initial release, then I'll rank it separately.

I only dislike two of these entries! The Pokemon Company knows a good formula!!!

So sit tight, it's gonna be a LONG list I'm separating out into two parts.

15. Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Yeah um... This game enraged the entire world at once upon its reveal. Diamond and Pearl are beloved fan favorites so when it came time for the Pokemon Company to give it a modern day remake, they dropped the ball. HARD!!! You can easily tell they banked on our childhood Nostalgia. This pair of games was released incomplete with the entire game looking ridiculously unpolished with broken cutscenes and almost 'blurry' looking too meaning the time wasnt taken to sharpen and 'clean' the animation. The chibi art style the company tried out ended up making the entire fanbase 'uncomfortable' and we wish they won't try it again. The remakes didn't improve upon the originals/didn't change anything from the originals either which enraged the fanbase the most. Especially since Platinum was released alongside Diamond and Pearl. Platinum was the ironed out and definitely superior of the trio of games and the remakes did nothing that Platinum fixed. Let's not forget how easy the remakes were either... Long story short, BDSP were horrible games and horrible remakes to a beloved game that was a clear cashgrab from the company. Therefore, save your money and don't bother to purchase them.

14. Pokemon Red, Blue & Yellow

Despite how Red, Blue & Yellow are the OG games that kickstarted the entire Pokemon franchise, they're the most UNPLAYABLE!!! I had these games passed down to me from my older cousins when I was four and I can't tell you how much of a bad time I had with these games ESPECIALLY since I had previously played Pokemon Colosseum (Colosseum of which is labled as one of the most difficult Pokemon games in existence) & Leafgreen beforehand. Leafgreen was a remake of Red & Blue by the way for those who are unaware. In Red, Blue & Yellow these games were ridiculously broken & definitely suffer from the fact that they're the first games in the franchise cause normally a company will put out a game and by the time the sequel comes around it fixes the issues the first game had. Gameplay was very clunky, game sprites were unsettling, there's leftover 'unfinished' areas and mistakes left in the game on top of how BROKEN psychic types were as at the time Psychic types had no weaknesses/Dark types didn't exist yet. Therefore, all of the above resulted in very infuriating gameplay and even veteran Pokemon players are at an agreement that Red, Blue, Yellow are especially bad and unplayable nowadays.

13. Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire

I'm not saying Ruby & Sapphire are bad games... I'm just saying they can't keep up with their third same generation release of Emerald. Ruby & Sapphire explore the Hoenn region and was the third generation of Pokemon Games the company had put out. While gameplay and graphics are pretty solid, the story heavily lacks! There's oftentimes areas in both Sapphire & Ruby that felt incomplete and took away from the experience. Such as, in Ruby, you're only interacting with Team Magma while in Sapphire you only interact with Team Aqua. Never both evil teams at once DESPITE both teams existing in both games leaving a story that never quite made sense unless you played both Ruby & Sapphire. Fast forward to Pokemon Emerald's release that came out shortly after Ruby & Sapphire, Emerald merged Sapphire & Ruby together. Now the story felt more complete. Growing up, I had played Emerald and never Sapphire or Ruby. Within the last few years I had purchased Sapphire only so I could obtain version exclusive Pokemon and man... I could not play Sapphire due to the lack of story and confusion I had obtained due to playing Emerald prior.

12. Pokemon X & Y

I know I'm triggering a lot of you guys by putting X & Y so low on the list. I personally am not a fan of X & Y and there's nothing wrong with that. X & Y was a milestone game for the Pokemon Company as it was the first main series game to not only be entirely played in 3D graphics, it introduced a new Pokemon typing but to also introduce Mega Evolution, a beloved battle gimmick the fanbase forever wants to bring back to the series. I do however have MANY issues with this game. This game is straight up boring and forgettable. I remember nothing to do with the story, the rivals were once again boring and lackluster and many argue if they were even rivals to begin with, and lastly when I played X & Y and finished the Elite 4 and realized who the Champion was, my first thought was 'oh yeah... I forgot she was a character.' My issues with the gameplay was that it was too easy. X & Y is notoriously known for being one of the easiest main series games. It's too easy to fly through this game and even I myself played the game with entirely Fire type Pokemon without an issue. That's not a joke either. Plus, it didn't help that X & Y wasn't marketed well at all. The only reason I knew X & Y existed was due to me casually scrolling through Amazon and stumbling upon a listing for Y. Later on everyone jumped on the bandwagon once the X & Y anime released. In the end, this isn't a bad game just boring. This is definitely not my first choice when picking out a Pokemon game to play.

11. Pokemon Fire Red & Leaf Green

The Gameboy Pokemon game I had played the most in my youth, Fire Red & Leaf Green was the first of MANY remakes for Red & Blue. I highly enjoyed this pair of games because the graphics were highly updated from their Red, Blue, Gold & Silver predecessors. The music was memorable and I had a fun & somewhat easier time with this game as I had played this game when I couldn't read yet. So yeah, it was a straightforward and easy to follow game. I don't hate or love it. I played this game once as an adult and I'm just 'meh' with it. Compared to games nowadays, there's nothing 'big' Fire Red & Leaf Green does to catch anyone's attention besides being remakes of the OG games. I cannot remember the story at all if that says anything besides Gary being your rival and that he was an asshole. So yeah, Fire Red & Leaf Green is a pretty solid game.

10. Pokemon Sun & Moon

Oddly enough, compared to just about every listing so far, I actually vividly remember this game! Sun & Moon gave the series so much by introducing Ride Pokemon & Regional Forms and broke tradition from the other main series games by removing Pokemon Gyms. Due to broken tradition however, many highly dislike this pair of games. I personally enjoyed the characters so much in this game and the story was highly memorable. So Why is it ranked so low? Because I prefer Ultra Sun & Moon, the ironed out version of Sun & Moon, more.

9. Pokemon Black & White 2

Black & White is one of my all time favorite Pokemon games yet I ranked their sequels low in comparison. The sequels were faithful and added greatly to the prior experience we had recieved in Black and White but I have my own issues with it. I found these sequels to be forgettable. I can't remember the plot at all... it was also a big deal in Black & White that Pokemon from other regions can't be found in Unova yet in the sequels there's no logical explanation as to why other regional Pokemon live there now. This game has great things though like turning a gym leader into a Champion, adding on new towns, game exclusive towns, a clear passage of time on top of a secret super boss fight you can challenge. I ranked this game so low since the anime and games don't even acknowledge the existence of Black & White 2 & retcons quite a bit of them too.

8. Pokemon Diamond & Pearl

I went CRAZY when Pokemon was introduced to the DS. Diamond was my #1 must have game in the year 2006. Surprisingly, Diamond & Pearl are literally the same game much to everyone's surprise besides version exclusive Pokemon which was sadly when the fanbase started begging the company to quit making two games each generation instead of one collective game. I mean, I agree!!! Diamond and Pearl did many things right with making Pokemon Contests more fun & involved, introducing two new eeveelutions and gave players the first taste of travel companions be it Pokemon traveling outside their Pokeball or trainers temporarily partnering up with the player. The characters were great, memorable, same to the music and locations. My personal issues with the game, and issues that the fanbase can agree on, is how slow the game can be. It literally takes forever for battles to enact as health bars deteriorate at ludicrously slow rates. Lastly, this generation of games had an insane amount of event exclusive Pokemon the fanbase cannot get their hands on as of now leaving us with much to be desired. These are great games!!! But their later released Platinum did much better.

That's it for part one since there's just so many games. Will post part 2 tomorrow! What do you think of the Ranking so far?
