Future Starter Types I Want To Happen
Most starter Pokemon start out a single type: Fire, Water or Grass type. Eventually, the starter Pokemon NORMALLY obtains a secondary typing with Venusaur of whom is a Grass-Poison Type, Grenjnja who is a Water-Dark type and Blaziken who is a Fire-Fighting type to name a few. There has been MANY unique type combinations for the starters over the years, but today I'm going over a few type combinations we have yet to see that I also REALLY want.
1. Fire-Dragon
To this day, we do NOT have a Fire-Dragon starter Pokemon. Heck, NONE of the starter Pokemon have a dragon dual typing. Many had predicted that Fuecoco was gonna be Fire-Dragon typed and yeah, that wasnt the case as Skeledirge wound up becoming Fire-Ghost instead. Plus, my main argument for this is Charizard. Everyone, including in game characters such as Lance and Leon, firmly believe Charizard should've been a Fire-Dragon type but in reality it isn't. Yes, one of Charizard's Mega Evolutions is a Fire-Dragon type, but again, im not including special forms. All of this is just the universe saying we need a Fire-Dragon starter Pokemon.
2. Water-Ice
Surprised it's not a starter typing yet, considering just how many Ice-Water types we already have with Walrein & Dewgong to name a few. Realistically, this should've been Empoleon's endgame typing instead of Water-Steel. Honestly, I can see Empoleon being both Water-Steel and Water-Ice, but Water-Ice feels more fitting considering it's a penguin whose move pool is majority Water and ice typed AND most games depict Empoleon as the Emperor of Ice Tundras. Empoleon literally only learns ONE Steel type move which is Steel Wing (Not including TMs). Whether we get a future starter who eventually becomes Water-Ice type or a Legends game gives a pre-existing starter the Water-Ice typing, it's just unbelievable that we don't yet have an Ice-Water starter Pokemon.
3. Fire-Fairy
This typing is actually on of the few types that doesn't exist yet. At all. It was highly predicted that Fuecoco would wind up being Fire-Fairy typed after a fake leak went out during the early Scarlet Violet days depicting Fuecoco becoming the Cocollona: A woman who was turned into an crocodile with butterfly wings. After said leak, I 100% can see Fire-Fairy types being a real thing in the Pokemon universe and hope we get one eventually. I think maybe a Fire-Fairy type starter could be a Phoenix or a literal Fire Elemental fairy.
4. Grass-Psychic
I'm surprised we don't have one of these already. Yes, there's ALOT of Grass-Psychic Pokemon in the series already with Exeggutor, Celebi and Calyrex to name a few, but we realistically should've already had a Grass-Psychic starter. Many predicted Sprigatito would be Grass-Psychic type once the in game leaks for Scarlet & Violet started pouring out and it was revealed that Sprigatitos final evolution, Meowscarada, becomes a magician. Rightfully so, Grass-Psychic sounded like an appropriate typing for Meowscarada but that wasn't quite the case as Meowscarada wound up becoming a Grass-Dark type instead. Luckily Meowscarada could learn psychic type moves! Still though, I low key feel robbed and it doesn't feel right considering we don't yet have a Grass-Psychic starter yet.
5. Grass-Bug
Yes, I'm actually really surprised this isn't a thing yet. We do have the Sewaddle line of whom are rightfully Grass-Bug types but a Grass-Bug starter Pokemon doesn't exist and just doesn't make sense to me as to why it's not. In fact, we don't yet have a Bug dual type starter period. Bug types get a bad rep in the series as they're normally labeled as weak early game Pokemon with a few objections in between such as Kleavor, Vikavolt & Orbeetle. Out of all the starter types, it feels the most inappropriate that we don't yet have a Grass-Bug starter. In all honesty, this would put the Grass-Bug starter at a GIANT disadvantage and most fans wouldn't choose it thanks to its double Fire, Flying and Ice weakness. It's straight up NOT a good typing and most likely why we don't yet have a starter of this dual type, but I'd still like to eventually see a Bug starter.
6. Water-Ghost
Because we have Skeledirge who is Fire-Ghost and Decidueye who is Grass-Ghost. We now need a Water-Ghost starter to finish the trio. Many predicted that Sobbel would eventually become a Water-Ghost type because Sobbel is a Chameleon and Chameleon's can disappear but also most tongue related attacks in the Pokemon universe are Ghost typed. Therefore, the universe was practically screaming that Sobbel would wound up as a Water-Ghost type when in reality he remained a pure Water type. My suggestion for a potential Water-Ghost type would be to give us a Past regional form for Mudkip in a future Legends game and make it a Water-Ghost type as Axolotls as endangered animals, especially in the wild. When the environment isn't fitting for an Axolotl, Axolotls actually can change their species as a whole and become salamanders. This whole idea of endangerment and evolution leads me to believe Mudkip could eventually become our first Water-Ghost starter Pokemon. Pokemon is no stranger to making endangered or extinct animals ghost types, just look at Decidueye & Dragapult.
7. Fire-Electric
Another typing that doesn't exist yet. Well, it technically does if Heat-Rotom counts... One of the most requested dual type for a starter Pokemon is Fire-Electric which SHOULDVE already existed. Yes, I'm talking about Infernape. Infernape is a Fire-Fighting starter who is based on the 'Monkey King' aka the Sun Wukong. The Monkey King rode storm clouds and could control electricity. Therefore, the Chimchar line should've been Fire-Electric type but we were done dirty in that regard. Many are predicting that when and if we get another Legends game, if Torchic is a featured started it'd most likely receive the Fire-Electric dual typing. No matter what, I'd still love to see this type exist eventually. And it'd no doubt become a highly demanded Pokemon as Electric types are highly valuable and strong as it is.
8. Normal
None of the starter Pokemon are dual Normal type and honestly, while the starter wouldn't be desirable, a dual Normal type starter would be interesting to see. As of recent generations, Normal type Pokemon are FINALLY making a name for themselves as they're no longer ordinary 'early game' Pokemon such as with Ursaring, Obstagoon, Hisuian Zoroark & Grafaiai to name a few of the strong Normal types. I think a Fire, Water, or Grass-Normal dual type starter could shake up the game in all the right ways. How would that work? I have no idea. But I still would like to see it happen.
9. Fire-Ice
There's only one Fire-Ice type in existence and it's technically not even considered a Fire-Ice type. I'm talking about Galarian Darmanitan who can change its typing from Pure Ice to Fire-Ice ONLY in battle. Therefore, we technically still don't have a Fire-Ice type and I think that honor should belong to a starter Pokemon and I know exactly which animal it should be based on. The Japanese Macaque aka Snow Monkies, are monkeys that live in the snowy mountainous regions of Japan who are famous for bathing in hot springs. This Pokemon could be a Ice-Fire type for the reason they live on snowy mountains and utilize hot springs. It's signature move could be Scald of which the move consists of spraying scalding water at an opponent which will then burn the victim. Furthermore, this Pokemon would have the ability Water Absorb which allows the Pokemon to regain health after being attacked by water moves. I think this is untapped potential waiting to happen.
10. Water-Dragon
To end the list, Water-Dragon is a starter type that we don't yet have AND only belongs to Palkia & Kingdra in the Pokemon universe. I think a Water-Dragon starter is very plausible and surprised hasn't happened yet. I'm thinking they could give us a Pokemon like Lapras that's based on the Plesiosaur which were carnivorus long necked mammals in prehistoric times. Or they could go the Pakicetus route. The Pakicetus is a prehistoric mammal that was closely related to whales. The link/evolution between water mammals evolving to live on land. The Pakicetus had both reptilian and mammal characteristics. I think this would be a perfect animal to make as a Water-Dragon starter.
Is there any Starter Dual types you'd like to see?
