today, i shall be debunking common things about the rep in the rrverse

basically, research is when you look into things for more information which is something you should do when you aren't a part of a minority

what does that even mean?

now if a person were actually black and not "darkish" they will most likely have kinky curly hair. not curly. kinky curly. there is a HUGE difference

black people have a lot of keratin which helps produce melanin

due to the very hot climate, you need melanin to absorb sunlight.

hair has a TON of keratin in it so it works i'm hand with melanin (which makes your skin darker)

because it's so hot, your scalp is much more durable and because there is so much keratin your hair is going to come up kinky curly.

it's also quite difficult to change hair texture and patterns

most black people who have straight hair without a wig or weave either relax their hair or train it with a silk press.

given ALL of these factors and given Hazel skin tone and place of residence in the south and then in california, her hair would not be curly. it would be kinky curly.

this narrows her hair type to type 4.

which, given the fact that you are white, means that Hazels hair is much more coiled than yours.

when it comes to Hazels mother being voodoo i personally do not have issue with that

voodoo is a traditionally black religion and hoodoo is quite common in the French quarter. it's a huge part of the culture in new orleans. sources in comments.

however some people find it to be a bit stereotyped due to both it being a black woman (which is actually something i'm happy about) and i've also seen some people say that the voodoo and hoodoo in the books was inaccurate
