i'm so happy that survivors of SA are getting the rep they deserve! it's important to acknowledge this problem and think of ways to educate more and more people.

sjm, the author of the acotar series agreed with me. however, she really can't comprehend being sensitive and thinking before she writes.

so, let's talk about how sjm either needs to educate herself or stfu, respectfully.

i don't have all the books on hand, just the first and most recent books. most of this is going off of memory, fandom pages, and screenshots i've seen going around. let me know if i get anything wrong!

let's start with Rhysand being a fake ass feminist. we don't have time to get into that in depth, but we can brush on this.

rhysand created a library for survivors of SA, which is fucking amazing. especially when he acknowledges that the vast majority of these women are very traumatized and went through so much more than just SA. one of them even had her tongue cut off to prevent her from telling anyone about what happened. (her hands may have also been smashed, but i don't remember) so it's fucking amazing for girls like her to have a safe haven, away from all possible triggers while doing work in attempts to reclaim themselves!

that's where it ends.

rhysand gets the great idea to attempt to fuck his wife in this library where these women are and didn't seem to give a fuck about how this could be a serious trigger. there was so much PDA that even if i wasn't thinking of the situation i would have been uncomfortable. so you can imagine how mad i was about the fact that this was going on in a "safe haven"

that's just one of my qualms with rhys. i have so much more, y'all don't even know. but we must move on.

nesta goes to training while in "rehab", which is a whole other subject, and she works at this library to keep herself busy. while she's there she makes some friends and invites them to train with her.

we all know what that means, and i'm a ~child~ so i know for a fact that these survivors knew and i know it made them hella uncomfortable because i was uncomfortable.

also cassian and nesta not being able to wear some fucking perfume is probably terrible for the survivors because in these books you can smell arousal (why tho?) and it would be n a s t y to smell that all the fucking time.

also, it was hinted that nesta was raped and there was nothing??? done with it??? she just fucks cassian??? and makes dick jokes??? around these women???

if she was actually raped, she'd keep that shit on the downlow at the MINIMUM. that isn't even the bare minimum, it's less than that.

but to sjm that doesn't matter. and it pisses me off.
