does it make much sense still? no.

but it's literally just me vibing. i also have a word vomit:

Despite most of the credit going to Percy and Annabeth–as per usual–it was Will who came up with the idea for New Greece.

He was 18, too old to stay at camp and too young and, frankly, too clueless to start a life in New Rome. His home was here: At Camp Half-blood. He didn't have one anywhere else.

Texas ain't safe for a "faggot brainwasher". Therapy ain't safe when the therapist is trying to fix you to be straight. Meemaw ain't safe when she takes you to that therapist in Texas. The only place that was safe was camp, and camp was his home and his family.

Still, he drove three days from the Long Island Sound to SoCal with Nico, where they were housed in a small suit–courtesy of Hazel and Frank.

They placed their luggage at the foot of the bed, then gracefully passed out.

-

Will was five when he realized he liked men. He was so proud of it, and he wanted everyone to know.

His mother beat the shit out of him when he told her. But, the feelings never went away.

When he was 8, he ran away from home, a satyr found him, brought him to camp, and died trying to find Pan.

When he was 13, he was a war doctor. The titan war required so many more, but Will was all they had.

    He took the job.

His first patient was a girl from the Demeter cabin with three stab wounds. She died.

Then, he found a boy from the Aphrodite cabin with a slit throat. He died.

Then, a Hephaestus kid with a stab wound to the leg and a cut off foot. It was a fucking miracle he survived.

Then Annabeth with a poisoned dagger to the shoulder. It was another miracle she survived, but he knew she had to. Percy would have killed him if she hadn't.

But that wasn't what scarred him. No, what scarred him was seeing heads and their separate bodies rolling down the streets, finding people with bones turned in all the incorrect angles, blood dripping from their mouths, finding his best friend's body being eaten by a group of empousi.

He could still remember the scent of blood and rot as he left his friend there, unable to help without winding up dead himself.

-

Will woke up and vomited until the early hours of the morning.

I also have this:

"I don't fucking get it." Alondra yelled. "You can't do this to me."

Her case worker just smiled. "We just don't have the space and New Greece does. You will have to deal with it."

Alondra's eyes narrowed. "Fuck you," she spat. "Fuck you."

"It's what the fates want."

"Bullshit."

The foster system was often bullshit. There was no one who cared about her dad and no one who cared about her. Alondra continued, "Does he even get a funeral?" she asked ignoring the tears.

The caseworker shook her head. "You know how we feel about... that."

That. Said with such disgust. So much that she wouldn't even allow Alondra to fucking grieve. Her dad had died yesterday. Yesterday. "Why?"

"You know why."

"I don't."

The case worker stiffened. "We can't allow someone like him to have a peaceful time in the Underworld."

"He was a good dad." Alondra wiped away her tears. "Better than the people you place me with."

"Then you must really want to go someplace else," The case worker said.

I also have this word vomit, which i'm not a big fan of, but whatever:

Ira folded up the letter and placed it in an envelope. She then placed that on her nightstand, lest she forget to send it.

She grabbed her scrapbook and collection of stickers and prints. She opened the green box in her closet, revealing her pens and inks. What would she create today?

Ira felt warm, comforted. Was it the food she just ate? She could still smell Maa's samosas on her sweater, Ira's favorite meal.

Or perhaps it was the fact that Charles was rubbing against her legs, quiet and content as he purred. A soft, deep, soothing rumble.

Or maybe it's the fact that Alondra's letter was still open on her desk and Ira kept sneaking glances at it, her heart speeding every time her eyes landed on the paper. She sighed and indulged herself with another read, fighting the urge to sneak it beneath her blankets, saving it for the middle of the night, when she'd take out her phone and use what little light it provides to read the letter in secret.

"How old are you?" Ira muttered to herself through the small sounds of Charles and the melody of Ketchum ID.

A loud banging came from her door and Ira jumped, quickly stashing the letter away. Child... Ira mentally chided.

"Ira," Anika whined, her banging becoming louder. "Can you hurry up? Why is your door locked?"

"Because you have no sense of privacy," Ira said before unlocking the door. She quickly opened it, taking a moment to enjoy Anika's startled yelp. "What do you want?"

"Can I borrow some of your glue? Thanks." Anika pushed her way through the door. Ira entertained herself with the image of whacking her sister with a pillow. "How do you find anything in here? It's a mess," Anika said.

That was not true. Ira had organized it exactly the way she wanted to; everything had a general category. Was that category always discernible to anyone but her? No. In fact, it was always the latter.

Organized messes worked for Ira. She needed to know where things were and to have some semblance of what it felt like to be put together. But having something so crisp and neat was suffocating. She needed breathing room to be imperfect without feeling too flawed. Flaws hurt. No one could navigate the "mess", but Ira made it work. The same way pink flowers in scrapbooks don't always look too pretty, but Ira would make it work. She'd turn it into something filled with life and a meaning only she would understand.

Ira rolled her eyes are her sister and one of the glue sticks in her purple container. "Blind," she commented as Anika left with a gesture heavily regarding her middle finger behind her back. "Wow," Ira said. "Thank you for that." She shut the door before Anika could respond.

She sighed and started the song over, ripping the deep orange paper off the corners and pasting it to her scrapbook. Light brown stickers of leaves and ferns, red pictures of apples and spice piles, all plastered amongst the page. Warmth. Comfort. But she wrote a secret message to herself in neat calligraphy with that same deep orange pen: two gentle hearts.

She signed the date at the top and closed the book as the song came to a finish, Unrequited Love (& other clichés) starting in it's wake. She tried to grab Charles, but he was content in the middle of the bed Ira planned on collapsing in. She pushed him off, despite the attempts to claw off her arm and plopped on the bed, staring up at the wall, letting the music lull her to sleep.

and then this, from almost a year ago when i first got the idea for this:

A sanctuary.

That's what New Rome was, a sanctuary. People were safe here, mortal here. Obviously, there is training, but New Rome was everything Annabeth wished she had growing up at Camp Half-Blood.

    She wanted a sanctuary.

Not a place filled with teens who wouldn't make it past 20. Not training being the only thing you did. Not being thrown into a world where you must see the invisible with each glace over the shoulder, tightening your grip on whatever weapon you had on you, because you will get attacked.

Annabeth wanted life and prosperity and the comfort of normalcy within the barriers meant to protect.

It was that longing that gave her the idea of Project New Greece.

-

A project for her degree. That was what New Greece was at first. Simply a requirement to graduate.

Surely Annabeth couldn't found an entire city! She had a job, and one she fully intended to get back to after getting a Bachelor's degree. That was the plan. She couldn't possibly stray from the plan.

    So, a project it stayed.

-

"What's that?" Percy had asked, looking at a computer model of a small neighborhood with a large field in the middle–the training grounds.

Annabeth glanced up at him, wincing at the small sting that came with moving fresh box braids. "It's my final project. Worth about half of my semester grade."

"The semester just started, didn't it?"

She gave a solemn sigh. "Yeah, but it's a fucking huge project and would essentially be my final. It's better to start now and perfect it later," she muttered, adding an extra ring of buildings that seemed to be apartments. She then spun her chair around to face her boyfriend. "Coffee?"

    "Yes."

Spring had hardly begun in New Rome. It was still quite chilly, despite the breeze that strived to bring warmth back to Annabeth's pink nose. It only succeeded in making her worse as a block away ancient magnolias bloomed despite the bare trees. The first sign of life in a dormant garden. Despite the pollen, Annabeth breathed in the sweet scent of fresh flowers as her hand intertwined with Percy. This peace is what she needed when she was growing up.

It was a jarring thought that sent her out of the peaceful trance and back to the cold reality.

"Are you okay?" Percy asked, squeezing her hand ever so slightly.

"Did I tell you," Annabeth had blurted after a moment, stopping the walk to the nearest cafe, "what my project was about?"

    Percy raised a brow. "No?"

So Annabeth explains, and Percy thinks it's the best gods damn idea he's ever heard.

-

Percy was exhausted when he came home. Interning was great, he loved kids and he adored teaching kids, but some days were just too much. Today was one of those days.

The kids were starting a new unit, courtesy of the teacher with a stick up his ass. In Percy's opinion, they should have waited a little bit more. The kids could barely understand multiplication and division on its own, much less get into double digit numbers. Mr. Coleman, an older man who doesn't seem to have much patience to teach at an elementary school level, sped through the unit, giving out huge rewards.

Based on several research papers, and the thesis Percy wrote last semester, grades are terrible and extrinsic motivation is even worse. With Coleman making it impossible for the poor kids to understand and giving each kid some candy, Percy knew the majority of the class would fail the test.

Thankfully, Coleman gave out a study guide, reviewed that and determined that Percy was, in fact, correct. Coleman was out today, and made Percy take charge of the classroom.

Hopefully tomorrow, the students will have improved.

But now, he was home at 11p.m., because Percy was unpaid. It was quite similar to living as a real teacher, so he was quite fine with interning and working part time. It simply meant late nights.

He threw his keys on the counter, and was about to go to his and Annabeth's room when he noticed the office light was on.

Now Percy and Annabeth were something known as Broke College Students™. This was a full time job.

He figured Annabeth had just gone to sleep and forgotten to turn off the light, so he went in to check.

He was kind of correct. Annabeth had fallen asleep, she just hadn't moved. Her face was slumped in a book on modern architecture with a book on public space design closed right next to it. Her computer was still on, with the model of New Greece bigger than before. There were now two schools, separated by a road with a 4-way.

Percy cringed. The elementary school was like that. Just across the street was the high school, and it was miserable. There was too much traffic going into the school, and it didn't help that the road led to a plaza where a lot of the parents worked as managers of small stores and accountants at the bank and they would all get groceries at the large supermarket in the middle.

Having that 4-way was the worst design in New Rome.

He pushed the thoughts away and saved the model before closing Annabeth's computer, and gently woke her up.

Annabeth gave a small groan and pushed away Percy's hand before falling back asleep.

"Wise girl, you gotta get up," he whispered.

The sound woke her up again, but she still had her eyes closed. "No," she whined.

"You're on a desk, and ruining a book, and when you wake up you will have immeasurable neck pain."

Annabeth groaned, but got off, turned off the light and slumped into their bed. She mindlessly felt around for her wrap. Percy passed it to her. After her hair was correctly in place beneath the satin wrap, she buried herself under the blankets and fell asleep after exactly 2.3 seconds.

Percy gave a light chuckle, before going back to the office and writing a quick note, lest he forget in the morning.
