i know that not many people read these, so this will probably be posted as an announcement too, but i feel that chapters are much better when it comes to long explanations of stuff and asking this on Soulmates is counter intuitive because by the time more than, like, 3 people respond i will have already finished what i needed to get done

i am currently working on a HUGE fic. i'm talking multi fic series on Ao3 type shit

it's still in development but here is a brief overview of how this came to be

i was going into annabeths psychology and i was like, damn rip her mental health

i was able to track it down to her constantly being in fear within her home while also not having a secure figure to look up to, which is why she got to attached to luke

however i noticed when doing other deep dives into characters that they all have similar problems with small variations due to their own circumstances

so i had an idea that percy and annabeth and piper and leo and nico and everyone else would take a look at what they needed as kids and thought new rome would have it

then i looked into new rome and... it isn't much better

so i've had this headcanon for a few years that they would rebuild chb into something similar to new rome, but that recently changed into:

they just create a better version of new rome, and the new rome starts to change and shit

there's no exact plot, just concepts thus far, but these are topics that i find intriguing and important

at the moment i have a 2,000 word document filled with brief notes and concepts of what i want to include when i eventually write this fic

right now, i'm working on the education system, so i wanted to ask a question

who were your favorite teachers? what did they teach? why were they so great?

for example: i hate math. not because i'm bad at it, per se, but because i just don't get the way people teach it

then last year i had mr craig who taught algebra 2 and he was fucking amazing. i actually understood these concepts for the first time and it proved to me that i'm not bad at math. he actually took the time to meet with us one on one and teach us things when he saw us struggling. he had a lot of gateways that you would pass and it was what taught me to factor

but this year i have a teacher: ms ross. she teaches chemistry and she's one of my morning classes (i have her around 8 am) and she is so energetic and you can tell she loves her job. she always tells us jokes throughout these lessons and actually shows us how to do things.

but something i love about her and mr craig was the facts that we don't technically need to know. Why should we learn this? How does it work

in math mr craig told me: did you know there was a math cult? yeah the pythagorean guy from the theorem killed people who believed in irrational numbers. learn the pythagorean theorem and swear to the number ten. join the cult today"

and that is the only fucking reason i remember a^2+b^2=c^2

and when i was learning about functions he showed me the coolest shit

unfortunately, i did not learn fractals in his class. that's a different one, but i now know functions really well because he made it interesting

one day i asked when i would use the quadratic formula and he said:

"one day someone will hold you hostage and you won't be able to leave until you can sing the quadratic formula song and solve a quadratic."

i really liked mr craig he was cool

with ms ross she does a different type of engagement. this was how she explained it:

"i am going to confuse you. all you need to do is smile and nod. then after i explain everything, i am going to show you something so simple, and it will blow your mind"

it's been a semester and she was correct

BUT then i have really shitty teachers such as my fUCKING PRE-CALC/CALC AB/TWO UNITS OF CALC BC TEACHER

but i know that other people thrive in that class. is it a cry for help? probably, but the point still stands

i want to see how different styles of teaching work on different people in order to make the education system i am working on a good education system
